Hi guys, the voting on SteemPeak is confusing for me. There are hearts and there are rewards in STEEM. So the interface has two things that it displays, whereas I would expect one thing (since I am voting on one thing).

Both hearts and STEEM rewards (STU) are each confusing to me, as well. I would expect to see a monetary value in USD, like on Steemit. I wonder what advantages you see in doing it with hearts and STEEM rewards.

Hi!

I'm assuming you are referring to the marked area below:

The amount showed is STU which is the same as '$' displayed by steemit.com (but more accurate as terminology, since we are not talking about USD).

If there is a "+ symbol", that means the post also has rewards in Tribe tokens SteemPeak can recognize. They can be seen by hovering on the rewards amount. A tooltip window like in the screenshot above opens and lists all rewards, plus other details like beneficiaries or how the rewards are split between author and curators for each token.

And the hearts tell information about individual votes.

Yeah, I understand the tribe tokens and I wasn't referring to them. I was referring only to the hearts and STEEM rewards shown in STU. Screenshot:

So firstly, I understand that STU is more accurate terminology. But from a user experience point of view, I think it is far more user-friendly if the amount is displayed in USD. That gives people something familiar. The amount in STU could perhaps be displayed on the popup when the user hovers over the reward amount. This seems far more friendly for everyone who is not hardcore crypto enthusiast who understands things like STU. To understand something like STU takes reading up on how the blockchain works (example explanation), which the majority of people may never get to. Wouldn't you agree?

About the hearts - OK, so I guess you are saying that they reflect the number of votes (as opposed to the accumulated reward). So that's good. But I guess it confused me at first. I myself find it more intuitive how it is on the Steemit interface - upvotes are shown as upvotes through the ^ symbol, and the rewards are displayed right next to the number of upvotes. Maybe that interface indeed has intuitive advantages, or maybe it's a matter of getting used to the Steempeak interface. Not sure. In any case, I think the popup shown when hovering over the hearts can say something like "Liked by:" or "Upvoted by:" and then display all the people who upvoted the post. This way it will be more clear, from my perspective as someone new to the Steempeak interface.

I know the STU vs. '$' was long debated. It would be easier for the user if rewards were displayed in USD, but these are not definitive rewards until the 7 days window passes and rshares (another term the regular user doesn't care about) are converted to "real" tokens (i.e. STEEM, SBD and SP).

I began my journey on Steem via steemit.com as well. Then moved to busy.org to finally land on Steempeak.com. So, it's a matter of getting used to a new interface, mostly. Regarding the interfaces, it's also a matter of preferences. I prefer SteemPeak because it's feature-rich, and I don't even use them as well as I could.

Your input as a new user of SteemPeak is valuable and I'll tag @steempeak so either Jarvie or Asgarth can take a look at it, when they have time.

Thanks for tagging me @gadrian

SteemPeak.com switched away from $ at a time when the amount was clearly not related to USD. You could easily see that the amount wasn't the same as the USD. So it was a bold faced lie to put a $ next to it.

If the system can consistently represent the USD I will push for it to go back to $. I know it's more user friendly to show a $ because they understand that. But if it's not the truth then it's easy but deceptive (a lie) and we don't want that even more.

Maybe the math has changed and now it's always accurately showing USD. Or someone has the best math possible that will always be accurate... let us know.

Hearts... we switched because we did not believe how steemit was doing it at least back then was intuitive. Now that they have a down arrow next to the up it actually makes it much more intuitive on their end. (they didn't use to have that)
Back then we were switching to something else because steemit's example was not inutitive. And we knew hearts was a recognizeable action. I'm actually willing to go back to up and down arrow now... but a better up and down arrow that fits our design style. Specially because we will eventually have a steempeak non-blockchain interaction ability that will apply to guests.

Thanks for taking in the feedback and responding.

Yes, good point about the USD value. I think on the Steemit interface it is accurate because it takes the 7-day average price of STEEM, if I am not mistaken. So it's pretty much always giving a more or less accurate USD amount.

This has NOT been the case historically... maybe it's accurate right now because of today's value of SBD. I'm not actually sure when it's accurate and when it's not. If someone can prove a method of it always being accurate then I'll work to switch it back to using this symbol $.

Yes, looks much better in beta.steempeak.com interface. How did you achieve the cross post?
