I would see my friends investing because they could do more than I could in financial terms. They bet here and there and I always went after them. I even lost what I could and often what I needed. That's why you should never invest more than you can lose.
I learned from my mistakes.

That is a lesson with some difficult consequences. Investing only what we can afford to lose, can be difficult when we are positive of pending success.

We have to play our own game and not just blindly follow what others are doing. Happy you learned from your mistakes and are doing your own thing now.

Yes we have to learn from our mistakes many times the envy of other people and trying to achieve results too fast just because a friend of ours has already achieved and we don't want to be left behind, we can lose everything. That's why there's a popular saying that goes slowly if you get far. Step by step, nothing is achieved without effort and dedication.

And don't do anything that doesn't feel right because of the Fear of Missing Out (FOMO)

Great advice!

I've been a victim of my own horrible decisions in the past when it comes to investing in things I didnt understand and or....Even have the money for lol

Very sober advice. Don't put too much in all at once

My biggest failure was giving up after a major setback. Years and years ago not long after ClickTrackProfit originally started. I had started my online business journey. I stared with PTC, traffic exchanges and then programs including ClickTrackProfit.

I had been working these for several months. Well on some of the popular traffic exchanges rotators started being used. Stupid me thought that traffic exchanges tested all sites before they allow them to be shown. Needless to say, I clicked on a site link that downloaded a virus. My protection software missed blocking the new virus from being installed on my computer. The whole hard drive was corrupted and could not be fixed. I ended up buying a new computer but never wanted to be in that situation again since I needed my computer for work purposes. So I never revisited any of those programs which I had been a member.

Fast forward to the present. After I retired, I was rearranging my office and cleaning out my file cabinets. I found my old records and email account I had for my old programs. I was curious if the google email account was still valid and if there were any emails in the account. To my surprise, my google email account was still valid. I had to create new password. There were over 25,000 emails in that account. I found that ClickTrackProfit and two other programs were still sending me emails.

I reinstated my ClickTrackProfit account and started over. I have new virus protection software. I blocks so much that I only see about 75% of the sites on the traffic exchanges. It blocks out all rotators and sites that do not have the https:/ This is fine with me as I can't afford to buy a new computer at this point in time.

I am very apprehensive about clicking sites out on the internet. I trust ClickTrackProfit to not steer me in the wrong direction. I love being on the hive platform as I feel safer from a virus standpoint.

I am stronger because of that failure and may be a little overly conservative because of it. But I am back and loving it so far.

My computers are paramount to my success, so I have off-site backups, on-site backups, and some spare parts in the wings mostly RAM, SSD, Video Cards. I can't have a computer down situation for longer than a few hours otherwise I start losing money.
Back in 2016 I had just quit Walmart and was 100% self-employed and my Windows 10 tower went down for the count, plus my last backup was corrupt did not have offsite backups at the time. I did not have a lot of money for a replacement. Voltage spike took out the Power Supply, Motherboard, ram, and video card tested with unreliable results. Went to GoodWill Lucky enough to find a 2009 Mac Pro Tower, with a few upgrades I was back in business.
When your computer starts generating income for you it is time to invest in redundancies.

It seems completely reasonable that you would be leery after that experience.
I am glad you decided to try again. Staying secure is important. It is to bad that there are so many safelists and TE's that aren't secure yet.
Great Comment

Wow that sure seems like a hard lesson to not click on random links. But yea security is definitely something everyone needs to pay attention to.

Erring on the side of caution is not a bad thing, David and after what you went through it is totally understandable. Glad you were able to come back and join this community. I actually use the Microsoft installed virus software and haven't had any problems. Fingers crossed.

My biggest failure might not be a failure as much as it was a mistake...

I didn't pay enough attention to using tools to keep my passwords safe and some of my accounts got hacked.

Fortunately, I didn't lose a lot of money, but the audacity of some stranger for poking his horrible little fingers into my private stuff where he has no right to be was enough to shake my foundations and get a good wake-up call.

Keep your passwords safe! There are tools available. Use them.

Second, to that, marketing is my biggest failure. But that is due to my own inconsistency...never being big on the marketing side... I know I have to change that and consciously apply more effort to change that.

I use Roboform for my password protection tool. It generates really good passwords too. I used to be one of those people that used the same password for everything I am just lucky that it didn't cause me any issues. When I discovered Roboform I joined it and upgraded and never looked back.

I have heard of Roboform, which is an interesting concept. I like their 1 compressed encrypted file for security.

I have no idea what you're talking about with that. But yeah, it's worked well for me since I started using it, Chris!

I've heard about Roboform. I'm using LastPass. Also generating strong passwords and working quite well in general.

I have heard of Last Pass as well. Glad it's working for you. The point is to protect your passwords and not be lazy about using the same one for everything you sign up for. Have a great weekend! 😀

I am a bit paranoid when it comes to security. I have a mechanical Firewall, with a proxy server, on an all Macintosh network. I also get iPhone alerts when someone tries to connect to my WiFi the alert actually gives me a MAC address.
I found that nothing beats a notebook under lock and key for username and password security. Did you ever learn how your accounts were hacked? That will go a very long way to preventing a repeat hack. For example, if you are using simple passwords, a brute force attack would be able to hack your accounts, but most hackers use social skills to get the information like a fishing scam in your inbox.
The really sad thing is no matter how careful a person tries to be we have all clicked where we should not have.

I was using simple passwords...that I know. at that stage, I was pretty much clueless about security and the kind of threats that are present online...Not that I'm an expert now, but at least I know enough to be more careful...lol!

Wow! It sounds like you've got a great setup for security. That's awesome. I'm very security conscious and alert in the physical world due to my experience as an ex-cop and personal experience, but on the internet scene, I still have a lot to learn though...

The internet is tricky, but luckily the information is readily available and free 👍 For me it was a no-brainer and because of my business type I received a nice discount on my business insurance.

That really sucks when that happens. I have experience it too.
Just be glad that you are the good person you are. that other person is probably miserable if they think they need to do that.

Not nice at all, I agree.

And yes, people who think they need to do these things, must be quite miserable indeed. You are so right!

My biggest failure was not engaging with people.

How are you supposed to do some kind of business or even just being a content creator if you don't even reply or talk to your readers/viewers?

That was my mistake in the past besides of bad promotion and not building a list properly lol

Communication is key to everything :)

I think that is a big problem for many of us. We tend to thank that because we work online we don't have to deal with people.

In reality, I think we can compare it with having a brick-and-mortar business. If you were to be shop a shop owner and potential customers come walking in, yet you just sit there and make no attempt to communicate or assist them, people will just turn around and walk out.

Even though we do not meet people face-to-face and people can leave comments/messages 24/7, we still have to communicate and build those relationships.

It's so easy to say, not that easy to do when it comes to engagement!

I was that way too! Thought that because I am doing business online I can be stealth mode and anonymous. That used to be kind of true but no for very long. Can't really expect people to trust me when they don't know me. And give me their payment information? No way.

Same that is also my failure as well. Only in the last few months have I learned to recognize and rectify that mistake.

Its a great mistake to understand because you only learn more about others and others learn about you when you engage.

The biggest failure is a common one. Yes, there are tons of crappy options out there, but many opportunities that will work if you put in the work and not blame the program owner or a million other excuses on why you failed. Basically, you will always fail if you quit without giving something a fair chance. I've been there done that. NO BUENO.

I take responsibility for my failures too. It is actually liberating to not be a victim. Some program owners are sketchy but it's hard to know that till you're in there and doing the work. Then you know you've done everything you can and it's them not you. But a program where the owners are there and providing support but I still didn't do the work then it is on me. I have been in both situations more than once. Not anymore.

I am very guilty of blaming the program. Before I gained some online maturity, the program or owner was my quick blame. We have all heard it is not the product but the salesperson that makes the difference. That translates instantly to "A great online marketer can sell anything."
That would make a great competition, 12 online marketers have to sell 1 crappy product. The marketer with the highest daily average after a 45 day competition would be crowned Marketer of The Year. :-)

Been there done that. It has taken me a long time to realise that i am responsible for every facet of my life.
Life is what you make it.

I can’t think of a great failure story to share.

Multiple times I have failed to take action and did not see feedback early enough. Feedback is so crucial to complete iterations on an idea/product.

I agree . Feedback is very important. Sometimes it can show me mistakes I have been making.
I have also failed to take action at the right time. Often times that means I am afraid of something.

Step through the fear and discover your new self!

Feedback on your efforts is helpful and immediate feedback is better. Unfortunately sometimes it is not available soon enough. And that can be discouraging.

I agree feedback is everything. That is what I like about this group. I made a logo, everyone in my local circle online and offline all said it looked great, and the compliments came flooding in. I popped it into the CTP Telegram group and @blainjones immediately noticed that the text did not match the image and the font needed to be more of the period. Awesome suggestions that will make a much better more professional-looking logo.

Lots of people will tell you your product is great and then when the time comes to buy it ... they suddenly lose interest.

Glad I could help you out!

Not being as consistent as I want to be
But today is a new day to change things

Every day is a new day to be better

Do I have to name just one? Okay! Buying into a franchise business that was too new and had no history to really do any due diligence. We put a second mortgage on our home for that and to compound the mistake I kept spending on programs that I thought would help me grow that business. Result: BANKRUPTCY and Foreclosure on the house. It wasn't just that though. There were job layoffs in there too.

So sorry you went through all of that. Talking about paying your dues.

Thanks, Chris! Yeah it was one heck of a ride for a long time! But we are very stabilized for awhile now so I can focus on building and Roy can enjoy his retirement! 😀

Only 1 Mistake Lol :-D

Being online since 2008, and not making any real money online until 2013. As you can imagine that 5-year spread of me just throwing money at one magickal program after another how many mistakes I must have made.

That being said I will go with my most recent tragic mistake. Over Committing myself, and not setting realistic work goals. To clarify I will say that if you purchase training be sure that your current work schedule will allow for such training. I spent money on training and challenges all at once. Not only did my reselling business suffer tragically but also I did not do well with the challenges, and I did not get the proper value from the training. Missing half of it because I was away and there were replays, but after falling a few days behind it became clear quickly that I had failed and I dropped everything, then rebuilt my schedule day by day until I had something reasonably workable.

I would see my friends investing because they could do more than I could in financial terms. They bet here and there and I always went after them. I even lost what I could and often what I needed. That's why you should never invest more than you can lose.
I learned from my mistakes.

For me, it's the good ol' PayPal story.

My failure was putting all my eggs in one basket and relying on a payment processor, where the writing was on the wall that the end was coming.

They shut down my account after 17 years, no reason given....And I had to rebuild everything.

I relied so much on one processor and never thought I'd be hurt by that companies decisions. But alas, we learned from it and started focusing on crypto as a much more solid option.

This is a valuable lesson for us all. All of my life I have heard do not put all your eggs in one basket. Never have I applied that to common business practices. It does set the perfect tone for risk assessment. Very thought-provoking post.

Ya what a surprise that was. I watched many programs I belonged to do a lot of scrambling when PayPal started screwing around.
It actually was a good thing though because now we have much better options and don't have to work with dishonest companies.

Do you have multiple processors now or is it just HivePay right now?

HivePay, Stripe and soon to integrate Coinbase Commerce.

So grateful you were able to come back and relaunch CTP and introduce me to the Crypto world. The last couple of years have been my best so far and can only get better.

You and me both lol
