FREE Webinar: Social Media Marketing in a (Post) Covid World - PART 1

▶️ Watch on 3Speak

Last week I gave a free webinar on developments in the world of Social Media Marketing in a (Post) Covid World.

I kept postponing this session because of the different time zones and ended up deciding just to go through with it and posting the recordings on @threespeak for everyone to enjoy.

Special thanks to @flaxz, @traciyork, @chocolatescorpi and @the-bitcoin-dood for officially registering, which gave me an extra reason to make this free session available on Hive.

I've split up the webinar into two parts, with this video being the first one. The topics discussed in this part are:

  • The State of the Internet in 2020
  • The Digital Surge as result of Covid-19
  • Big Changes and going towards then ‘New Normal’
  • The 4 Ps and 4 Cs

It finishes off with a take home assignment "Looking at your DNA" which prepares you for the second part of the webinar that I will upload later this week.

I hope you enjoy it and find value in it. Feel free to provide feedback and ask questions in the comments.

I'm not supposed to be online right now (it's our 31st wedding anniversary, but hubby's busy making brunch...lol), but I'm excited to check this out tomorrow. Thanks again for doing this, @jeanlucsr!

Thanks for tagging me in this! Totally appreciate that. I really wanted to check this out too.

Great info and tips. I've never really had an interest in this topic, but like you say in the video we're heading into a seriously online world. Being in crypto so much of my work is online to begin with, but branching out from crypto and getting into other industries and niches, things are changing for sure.

Funny too, whenever anyone starts talking about "ease of use" I immediately start thinking about the crypto space. We have brilliant coders, terrible marketers and we don't seem to understand the concept of "ease of use" One of the things I like about HIVE is that it does simplifie a lot with it's built in wallet and cross platform use case.

Enjoyed this a lot. Looking forward to part II. Thanks for tagging me!

Thanks for the support! I really appreciate it!

This is a big issue. I think around 70% of the people I onboard to Hive become inactive in the first 2 months because it's to difficult to transition from traditional social media where you post a selfie and 20 people respond to a (tribe based) platform where tags, interaction and interests really matter. In reality, Hive has a learning curve if you fully want to enjoy all the ecosystem has to offer.

And then, we haven't even talked about the technical side of Hive, the role of witnesses, upvoting, creator and curation rewards, delegations, curation trails, the dhf and proposals. There is just so much ground to cover.

But also... mass adoption ultimately leads to ease of use. So, if we'd promote Hive more efficiently to the right audience, we should be able to grow the community exponentially.

On one side I feel guilty for not actively marketing Hive a little more, on the other... I feel guilty for a lot of tasks I haven't been able to finish lately 😅. Getting this session up is in some way definitely a milestone. Glad to hear you enjoyed it. Will make sure to tag you in part 2 as well.

I always forget about all this stuff too. I'm ashamed to say I've been around this long and still need to learn about a lot of this stuff myself. I've actually had people get upset with me because I don't take a bigger interest in witness voting.

I think the other hurdle we face too is with exchanges. The average man or woman using blogger or WordPress sees earning HIVE, transferring HIVE to another exhange, converting to cash or for some converting to BTC, then another exchange to convert said BTC to fiat is just a huge hassle and overwhelming. I get it too, For "Joe Normal" that's a lot to take in.

What I don't get is why HIVE isn't the blogging standard for anyone in the industry? I think that's question we really need to answer. I've seen too many crypto bloggers, vloggers, and influencers show up, hang out at the party for a little bit, then leave.

Until crypto reaches mainstream adoption I think "Joe Normal" is secondary, I think we need to figure out why our own industry leaders aren't supporting this project and what we need to do to onboard them and keep them here. User retention rates are everything!

Why HIVE isn't the blogging standard for anyone in the industry?

I think @traciyork and @joanstewart might be able to provide more detail how the mainstream blogging community views Hive.

I feel a lot of people come and go because they have already built up a significant audience outside of Hive that doesn't follow them here. Also, this community isn't big enough for them to grow their audience substantially, so unless the are into investing or interested in learning about cryptocurrencies and tokenization, it doesn't hit home for them. Also, you can get 'lucky' with $100 worth of upvotes on Hive, but you can't really 'go viral'.

Also.. the viewer count of my videos here is less than a 10th I would get on YouTube and less than 100th of I would get on Facebook. This post has 10x as many upvotes as the video has views, which if you don't know how curation trails work, can become a little awkward at times. I personally have accepted this, as I'm thankful that my consistency is being valued, but the outside world could view it differently.

I think the other hurdle we face too is with exchanges

As a true crypto fan I think you might agree that the whole concept of crypto exchanges kinda goes against the original intention of Bitcoin. We are supposed to use it as currency.

With the price of Hive being below $0.14, I'm reminded of a conversation I had with @jackmiller where he was explaining to me that we have to create a demand for Hive. We actively talk about Hive as a means to get rewarded for creating content, but under utilize the USP of having feeless instant transactions.

We have yet to find ways to actively use Hive as a currency, except for NFTs. But I remember st**m having meet ups where people could buy burgers with their crypto and we just aren't seeing it enough here. And there have been initiatives, but just not that wide spread and mainstream.

There are also some untold stories of some of the old guard, who just picked up their bags and left. Well respected members who are currently powering down, only active in curation trails and no longer personally engaging. Tbh, I don't know the full story behind it.

Awesome webinar! I watched it from the beginning to the end... you got some great points there, and it is always like that... You have to adapt if you want to survive...
