The Hardest Part Of The Journey

avatar

So last week I started a little 'mid-life' adventure of sorts and began my training towards learning to drive...Big ol' 18 wheelers!

Like I mentioned last week, it's been something I've always told myself I wanted to try out one day. However for whatever reason, didn't pursue it until this year. I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity and I finished the 'in-class' portion of my training earlier today.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm months away from being complete because now we switch from theory to actually getting behind the wheel and learn how to operate these massive vehicles. I'm excited!! But to be honest, I'm glad the in-class part is over.

I've been away from my family since last Monday and it's great to be home!

I'll be honest, over the past week and a half, my 'Hive life' has suffered, along with my online businesses as a whole. If you've seen my track record over the 5 plus years I've been on Hive, I rarely miss a beat. The past week though, it's been every other day....

And as for my online businesses, I'm just grateful Eliana and Blain have been holding down the fort because I've had a horrible time keeping up to date.

I told myself, getting into this trucking thing will be cool because it'll still allow me to continue my efforts here and on my businesses. And I'm sure things will get a lot more smooth as I graduate into actually being on the road and having a schedule. But right now...I'm having a heck of a time trying to stay visible and active every day.

The hardest part of this journey for me, is jumping back on the horse!

It's crazy how long you can go, having a set schedule and never missing a beat...To having a few days off in a week, and it completely ruins your habits. Takes so long to develop those habits, and just a few days to have them all...Feel like a struggle!

But here's the secret that I have found works, every single time I lose a step!

I remind myself....

No one is coming to save me!

No one is going to write the content!

No one is going to build my brands!

So get back on the horse, even if you don't feel up to it. Push yourself to get active and those habits you formed over the years, will show up again.

Sounds way too simple of a solution, I know. However this has worked for me over the years. If I take a holiday, or something happens...I'll always 'feel' like taking it easy. I'll talk myself out of creating and end up hurting my personal brand in the process. However the gut check happens, and I remind myself that no one is coming to save me!

I'm an entrepreneur which means...If it's meant to be, it's up to me!

Does this mean I'll never 'miss a day' again? Oh gosh no, I'm sure I'll miss many more days in my career. However the trick to sustaining effort in this has always been...To show up, even when I don't feel like it. No matter what, keep pushing forward and amazing things always happen as a result :)

Hope this was of value to anyone that might be struggling with 'jumping back on the horse!'

Also, an entrepreneur with online brands and things to do, including Hive (obvs!) and I really like this idea: "No one is going to do it for me". Very useful. Thank you. I think I need to remind myself of this frequently!

I saw a post earlier asking where did you go and then scrolling down further is your post, it looks like the post has sparked something in you that motivated you to write about it.

Remembering my experience in a 4-wheel driving course that I attended a year ago made me relate to what you said about the theoretical being a boring part of the course. I too was bored with the discussions, photos, and lots & lots of rules & regulations. The fun part for me was the Practical Driving lessons, I was scolded a lot by my instructor but I'm cool with it. That's part of learning.

Anyway, I appreciate you sharing about the "reminders"; I'm going to use it too whenever I don't feel like working on my content or engaging the other users because you're right, who else is gonna do it for me other than myself? Thanks for sharing, great read!

Scheduling content helps me. I think ecency frontend has draft scheduling so content automatically gets posted. But yes engagement you have to stop by and do. I also tried youtube scheduling my content is scheduled upto 2025 but then scheduler says limit reached for schedule lol.

When we work hard sometimes the work that we do gives up haha. I got this experience recently.

I've never used a scheduler for content, but I do have 'topics' I usually like to hit on. Might try that in the next few months to stay up to date

You have to have a lot of willpower to combine two things at the same time, but with effort it is possible. The important thing is to show up every day.

It's so much harder to do than say as well lol

In the beginning everything will seem like a mess or out of order but I think as time goes by you'll be able to create a proper schedule that combines the two and keep the momentum going. I never want to get off the horse but sometimes life just happens.

It does, and sometimes we can talk ourselves out of taking action...Tell ourselves that tomorrow we will get active the next day...And then next day turns into a week lol

Exactly! It never ends when we start talking ourselves out of it. Taking action is the only remedy needed to break free and get back on track.

It's tough but the growth takes time and that comes in by showing up each day. So I hope everything is back to normal now that you are back home.

Big life changes ask for some time to adjust to the new routines.. I read you also had Covid? Well, that's great that you managed to finish the in-class part while having that :) I remember sitting and staring to the tv all day without being able to move for I think 1,5 weeks straight :)

Good luck with the new adventures, and I loved this one:

I'm an entrepreneur which means...If it's meant to be, it's up to me!

Great quote!

Yeah I got 'lucky' because I really got hit with it last Friday. I took the afternoon off and then basically slept all weekend long lol

Completely understand the struggle here. I'm constantly trying to balance out my job and Hive activity but they overlap almost constantly. One is standing in the way of the other all the time but it will have to be like that for at least another year.

Going in and out of the "personal brand building" mode is harder than people think.

It's never ending it seems too. Every time you think you are getting traction, something happens and you have to start over lol

Oh, yeah! I recently went through this and now I have to do it again. And looking ahead, I'll have to do it many more times. So!!!

I remind myself....
No one is coming to save me!
No one is going to write the content!

That's something I'll really remember!

It's a blessing and a curse...We are responsible for the decisions we make here on chain, and sometimes...It's really hard to kick our own butts!

Noted with thanks. 👍🏼

About jumping back on the horse. After a liddle bitty rest so I can ride that mofo hard.

Right now we are both grazing in the shade.

Best thing I ever learned.

"Nobody is coming to save you."

Makes a person focused and productive in full. And eliminates disappointment and victim mentality with one shot.

Share that shit everywhere.

Kudos on the learning curve. What a cool thing to learn!

Best of luck to you! I pull a travel trailer in the summer, but I could never imagine driving a truck. I went to high school with a girl who is a truck driver now and she seems to love it. Are you looking for something that has local routes or are you hoping to do some cross country stuff?

I'll play it by ear. I'm ok with cross country stuff, even going into America on routes. But I just wanna get hours in, so I get more comfortable. I'm not picky where they send me lol

Don't say that, you might end up ice road trucking! I forgot you were in Canada!

A little rest/change of scenery is sometimes needed. We come back stronger 💪

Learning new things can be very tiring, I’m always exhausted after even a few days of all day training.

You will always lose days for some reason, but the important thing is to be constant and disciplined in what you do, here success, as you say, you have to get back on the horse.
Thanks for your post.

Keep on keepin' on brother!

There will be a bump and there will be a bruise, there will be alarms and there will be a snooze, there will be a path that you'll have to choose. Because life's like a jump rope!
