How To Add Hive and Tribe Power to Existing Delegations?

I know that most of you experienced Hivians already know these things, but, after starting our @liotes.voter we saw that a couple of people have problems with adding additional HivePower to their existing delegation... Also, a few people asked in the comments to explain how Hive Power works, but that will be probably a topic for some future videos... It would take a lot more time to get everything explained in just one video, and this video topic seemed more urgent to avoid some future, unpleasant mistakes...

Adding additional HP should be an easy job, but a lot of us have made a mistake doing that... As you can see, I said "US", as I did that too... The problem is with how the Hive blockchain works... It's kind of impossible to ADD HP to the existing delegation per se, but you can OVERWRITE your existing one with a HIGHER (or lower if you want to undelegate a part)number and that's it...

Also, it is important to say that Tribe Power delegation work in a different way as there you CAN add portions of power every time without EDITING the current delegation...

It sounds a bit hard to understand and I would suggest you check out the video... It should help in understanding how it works and how you can easily do these operations...

Congratulations @liotes! You have completed the following achievement on the Hive blockchain and have been rewarded with new badge(s) :

You received more than 500 HP as payout for your posts and comments.
Your next payout target is 1000 HP.
The unit is Hive Power equivalent because your rewards can be split into HP and HBD

You can view your badges on your board and compare yourself to others in the Ranking

Ah, so that is how it works! I never managed to figure it out myself, but it sure is good to know now :)

I'm not sure if I knew this before, but I know that I made that mistake... And maybe even twice... lol...

Thanks for the comment!

These videos and articles are important. There's not much training for new people coming in and I feel that kills a lot of the retention. Having guides like this even if it helps out just one person is critical to the success of Hive or any tribe. Awesome job putting this together and helping out others.

Totally agree with you... Tbh. most of the questions that we get aren't about Liotes and how it works, but about things in general about Hive, Hive-Engine tokens, miners, etc... But, you have noticed by yourself the same thing as you are creating tutorials and How-to posts also...

If we don't help the platform and newbies, nobody will do it... So, why not? Even if it helps only 1 person, I will be happy... ;)

Thanks for the support and thanks for creating such content!

I think there is a huge potential in it if hive gets more user friendly.
My mother uses a lot of social media platforms but teaching her how the blockchain works etc is a totally other matter. The first impression is always crucial, and I almost stopped being a hive member in the beginning. The number of dapps, the fact that all these are connected to the same wallet etc does not come to you in a second. You have to do a lot of research on your own, and that means that 90% of human beings will just leave the website because they are not willing to put in some research.

Hehehe... Yes, you were ONE of them, but, as I said, you aren't the only one that made this mistake, so I thought it will be useful to prevent others from doing the same thing... :)

Thanks for the clarification on the delegations. I have yet to delegate HP out so I would not of known about the issue.

It is good to know how to avoid these mistakes... ;) And it's easy to make it... I did that at least once, but I think that I did that twice actually :)

Thank you for creating this video. I almost skipped over it, but I'm glad I didn't. Sometimes you think you know how things work and your understanding may not be as complete as you think. I knew about how Hive Engine worked and I knew that PeakD (delegating HP) worked differently, but I always just delegated the entire amount I wanted from the "Delegate" button so it would not undelegate the extra. I didn't put 2 and 2 together about the "Update" button. That seems to be an easier option. Thanks again.

Since I use the update button on peakd.com I haven't made any delegations mistakes lol... I've done some mistakes quite frequently not adding 2 and 2 together correctly ;-)

Yeah, it took me several times to remember to enter the entire amount I wanted to have delegated instead of just the amount I wanted to add (I still forget sometimes when I am in a hurry). I think I'll use the "Update" button from now on.
