Go With The Flow or Stand Up And Be Counted

avatar

When I took a break from doing This Is Awesome moderation, I thought I will take a couple of days, relax and enjoy in my free time. And after that, hit hard with the work that I have plans to finish... But life usually has some different ways of doing things...

I think that the main problem when someone goes to retirement is that it stops doing things that it was doing for whole life... And your body got shocked by that, and can't adapt that fast, so people very often get sick... That was exactly what happened yesterday with me. On my first day of "vacation", I had problems with my stomach so I had to rest almost all day...

Okay, I said, yeah it's just one of those days... I got better today, so that was positive, but I got distracted by some other things... As it was Sunday, the perfect day for doing things for others in my household... So, I was fixing my old laptop, re-installing programs, and applications for my son and wife, as they will use it in the future... So, I have been left with just 2-3 hours of my time, and of course, I didn't do anything that I have planned...

So, I reached a crossroad... It was a choice to go with the flow and finish the day lazy as I did yesterday... Or stand up and do what I have planned to do...

@elianaicgomes commented today about going with the flow... It is okay to go with the flow until a certain point, but if you want to be a winner, usually you have to be the person who is going against the flow... Who is going against the tide...

You can compare this with investing and trading on the market... if you are going with the flow, and do what everyone other is doing, you will get only the bread crumbs... You will be just another person from the crowd...

On the other side if you are going in the opposite direction... For example, you are buying when everyone else is selling, or, you are selling when everyone else is buying... You're going to be one of the few...

Maybe you will lose, maybe you will win... But one thing is sure...

You will be THAT person who has won or the one who has lost...

So... be different... be weird... and stand up and be counted...

Thank you for your valuable time,

~ph~

This is so true. I often think that if everyone is doing it, it is likely not the thing to do. Winners think differently than the herd!

hehehe... This is how reverse psychology works... :) And I do agree with it... If everyone is doing it, that doesn't mean that it is the right thing to do... It sounds weird when I wrote it, but it is like that...

Winners think differently than the herd!

Shepherd thinks differently!

I do not know trading looks a very risky proportion to me. Though I did not lost anything in trading but in my brief experience I understood that if you try to hard then it can go against you.

Well, if you think rationally then everyone who trades should be a millionaire, as most people do invest in things that they think are "safe"... It's like when you bet on the better team... You should win, but it's not always the case... :)

Of course, going "hard" isn't to invest a million into some shitcoin... but to find that "gem" and invest before others...

Dare to be different. Sometimes even going against the tide is not enough.
Maybe you've been in the water your whole life not realizing that you can swim diagonally and walk across the shore.
Good luck with your new schedule!

Lol, I have my moments I guess.
I often use metaphors when teaching classes where I'm trying to help someone relate to an abstract concept.

Yeah, it always a good thing to explain abstract things by bringing them closer to your audience... making them more real, and more "ordinary"... in a way that a specific person can relate to it...

Also, be prepared to fight with storms and strength that will do its best to change your direction. People who stand up and go against the flow, they are fighters. Once a fighter, always a fighter. :)

Oh, yes... storms are always there when we don't expect it... But, as you said, they strengthen us and prepare for the next challenges! That's how you build your muscles in the gym... By working every day hard!

It's difficult to get used to a situation when suddenly the stress is away. Your body and brain needs to adapt and find new routines. Hope you feel better today. By the way it's sometimes also good to be lazy... :-).

I always had a lot of difficulties to go with the flow because I always question everything. I probably never went with the flow and it was not always easy to be standing alone but when I look back I have the feeling that I have lived my life so far according to my own wishes and this feels good :-)

Much better today, and I have done a bunch of things... So moving forward!
And yes, I know that it's good to be lazy, but I like to do that when I'm done with my work... And these sudden attacks of laziness aren't good for me :P :P

I always had a lot of difficulties to go with the flow because I always question everything.

I had a similar feeling... and I just noticed a few days ago the real cause for most of the things... I have a problem with the authorities! Lol... It probably comes from my childhood, and it follows me through life... Can't blindly trust someone, or to some idea... I have to question, investigate, observe... :)

LOVE this!! Yes!! Being a winner is daring to embrace your authenticity & being YOU. If you just follow everyone else, then there's no real room for growth & you stop pushing outside of your comfort zone, which helps you see what you truly are capable of...

It's ironic how your path is parallel to mine....last week, I took the week off from video content creation (except the gaming one) because I needed to rest & recharge. But the Universe had other plans for me...SO much has happened & I am still amazed by it. Fortunately, most of it is positive but it actually gave me the motivation & inspiration to go to the next level & keep "pushing on" (#2020Vision quote ;) )....

Funny story....when my Dad retired about 15 years ago from his career of Managing Editor for the city newspaper company, he became more active with traveling, blogging & doing other things he didn't have the time to do while working full time. He told me something I will never forget - "Just because you retire from a job or work, it doesn't mean you retire from life!" SO so true...

As you said, going with the flow is okay at times when you need a day off to recharge (which is important) or something similar, but when you start settling, that's when you know you need to change things up, even just a small thing....we should never stop growing & learning...

I really enjoyed this post! Good for you for being a winner. I know you will continue to shine. Keep being your amazing self! 💚

If you just follow everyone else, then there's no real room for growth

You said it right! Losing authenticity kills growth...

"Just because you retire from a job or work, it doesn't mean you retire from life!"

Your dad is a legend! He understood the point of retirement on time and I hope that he enjoys it... When this virus shit finishes, I hope he will have a lot of time to travel... He deserved it!

I had a similar conversation yesterday with my parents... Where they had a kind of guilt for asking for health care "more aggressively"... I had to remind them that they DESERVE better health care as they PAID for it whole their life... It's not their problem that the system is rotten...

We have to remind ourselves that WE can't blame ourselves for everything... But, I digress... sorry about that...

Thanks for the comment! Always a pleasure reading them!
