Fake It Until You Make It .:. Is it good or bad?

On the one side, I like popular sayings, but on the other side, I like to find different meanings for them and different approaches... The one that you are seeing in the title is one that you will notice very often on motivational posters, popular literature, etc... Fake it until you make it

We all know the straight (or mainstream) meaning of it, so I will not go into that too much... But, let's try to explain it in the example of a new content creator... You want to start writing/recording blog posts, but you don't know where to begin, and you have a lack of confidence, right mindset... So, you pretend (fake) that you have and just jump into content creation... The main idea is that after some time of "faking it", you will really gain real confidence, an optimistic mindset that will become your quality...

But, there is another side of the coin... It is a kind of trap in some people can fall... When you are faking something, instead of realizing your OWN qualities that you had before, but you weren't aware of, you start to be the "fake" person... You are losing your personal identity and distancing yourself by faking more and more... And that isn't why you begin to do it in the first place... You want to be authentic, you want to be unique, original...

Check out some of my thoughts about it in the video...

Thank you for your valuable time,

~ph~

Agree fake it till you make it isn't always a bad thing. In some cases it's something you have to do it build confidence and sets the right mindset for when you do make it.

Exactly! That's why I said (in my description) that it has two sides of the same story... What you said is the RIGHT interpretation of this saying, but very often people chose the other one... Somehow, it's easier to pretend that we are something (someone) else and not ourselves...

I understand this statement as it can apply to life.
Like don't let people know your struggles until they have passed.
I can understand that.
As far I business, I have heard that from MLM leaders or other recruiting folks
Nope. get out of here with that BS. Your are telling me to fake it, leads me to think you are too.
Over the years I have learned to see through alot of the BS and I believe others have as well
The line needs to get uprooted from online business.
but that is like asking for an honest sales page........

Tbh, I didn't think about this point of view at all... But, you are totally right! If someone is preaching that, it means that he IS DOING the same... If not, that is even worse... as you are preaching something, and doing something else... lol...

Good point, man! Like the way you think!

I tend to agree with your assessment of the situation. I think being fake is not only a disservice to your community, it is also setting you up for failure if you are not careful. All it takes is for you to forget something you are faking and then make a statement that goes against what you have said in the past. At that point, you have lost the trust of the people who follow you. Besides, if you let people see the real you, they are more likely to be able to relate to you and trust that you are not trying to pull the wool over their eyes.

Yeah... That's like living in constant fear that you will say something that is the opposite of what you said the day before... And you are right, it is a trigger to the "no way back" road, as only one mistake will show the real face behind the mask...

if you let people see the real you, they are more likely to be able to relate to you and trust that you are not trying to pull the wool over their eyes.

Presenting yourself as perfect is probably the most difficult thing to do, as such a thing doesn't exist... On the other side, showing yourself with all your mistakes, failures, and errors will make a much better bond with others...

As my wife is a musician, and she did a couple of piano concerts... Always stressing how she will make a mistake, and always trying to do the piece perfectly... But, the audience likes to hear a mistake or two, as they like to relate with the musician, that he/she is one of them... and it happens to them too...

Thanks for a great comment and sorry for my long reply... :)

I believe that it's much better to first find your own voice and try to build on that. I don't believe it's possible to make it, especially with pleasure and dynamisme, if you have to constantly change yourself and present an image that you are actually not.

I believe that it's much better to first find your own voice and try to build on that.

This is probably the hardest step... And we can't find that voice, and we suck at the beginning... It's always like that... But, the way we suck is representing EXACTLY how we ARE in that moment... It's not faking it...

It's hard to accept that, and that is maybe the reason that people are going onto the "faking road"... trying to avoid something that HAS to happen...

Fake the confidence, yes. Fake the content? No! Sing confidently even if you are terrified--but sing the right song. Step confidently into the classroom (even if you are terrified), but teach what you know--don't pretend to know what you don't know. !BBH 1

I like this! :) You got the point, but not everyone gets it... and then we get fake gurus, fake followers, and tricked listeners...

Thanks for the comment!

"Faking" can become stressful with time. if you have strong plan to make it and working on it, faking it can save you for a while but if you have no idea then "faking" will kill you.
