Hello everyone! This month is not only a month of May flowers. It is also a month of fruit bearing trees such as the jackfruit tree. Jackfruits only bear fruits once a year. On the above photo are my harvested jackfruits from my backyard. After segregating the ripe pulps, I also set aside the seeds and cook it.

Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus) is a tropical fruit tree native to Southwest India. It belongs to the Moraceae family, which includes that of mulberries, figs, and breadfruit. It has a strong distinct smell that is similar to Durian or it could be a combination of banana and pineapple. I guess it is the largest fruit on this planet! It is large with thick cover with yellow sweet smelling pulps and pods. The seeds are edible too.

Young jackfruits are favorites of vegans as meat substitute added with coconut milk along with other lintels and the like. It is great for vegan salad as well. When it’s all ripe, oh my! I am very good in making jackfruit preserves but that will be another topic. This time, we will focus on the medicinal benefits of jackfruit seeds.
When you smell something from your backyard where your jackfruit trees are settled, then it’s time to pluck it. First you remove the ripe pulp. You can eat it raw or make sweetened preserves as fillers for your favorite sandwiches or cold Sundaes. Now, don’t throw away the seeds. For all you know, you are throwing away a natural medicine that could be beneficial to your health! In my case, I keep some seeds and cook it by boiling over a part of water with some salt. It’s really delicious guys.

For the record, here are some of the remarkable natural medicinal benefits of Jackfruit seeds:

Once dried, jackfruit seed can be grounded and used as follows:

  1. Decoction to treat indigestion.
  2. Prevention of Anemia
  3. Boost Vision
  4. Enhance the immune system
  5. Good source of fiber.
  6. Good source of protein
  7. Good source of iron.
  8. Rich source of potassium
  9. Antioxidant
  10. Contains the Minerals such as copper, chlorine and sulfur.
Vitamin A. Vitamin C, Choline, Thiamine & Riboflavin

With all of the above natural medicinal benefits of these jackfruit seeds, I guess it's high time for us to store some pulverized jackfruit powder for future use. It has been used since the olden days and handed down to generations because of their efficacy but it should be taken with the right quantity. It is therefore necessary to consult your doctor if you have synthetic maintenance for your present condition.

Thank you for dropping by my page.

My family and I love jackfruit seeds, they are so delicious. I like to think of them as extra delicious mini potatoes. I never ever throw these seeds away.
