Don't lose patience

As the fame of Socrates spread, there was an influx of people coming to his house for satsang. His wife was bitter. They feel that idle people are uselessly encroaching on their homes. She also used to behave rudely with the visitors from time to time. This hurt Socrates. One day Socrates was talking with people, when his wife threw dirty water on him from the roof. Calling them naughty and saying some abusive words. The satsangis found this an insult to them. Socrates also felt bad, but he patiently told the people present, 'You all must have heard that the one who thunders does not rain. Today, my wife has debunked this proverb by roaring and raining together.

On hearing Socrates' humorous words, the anger of all the people calmed down. He again indulged in satsang. Seeing the patience of Socrates, his wife was also amazed. From that day she changed her nature and started welcoming the people who came.

There are many examples of unmatched patience in the life of Mahatma Gandhi. He didn't react immediately when he was first thrown off the train for apartheid in South Africa. Gandhi understood the whole situation and found that the root cause behind that incident was the policy of apartheid. Unless it is attacked, such incidents cannot be stopped. He planned for it and then started the struggle. He had to struggle a long time, but he did not lose his patience and that same patience brought him success.
