▶️ Watch on 3Speak

A couple of days ago we were approached by @seckorama and @melinda010100 from the Ecency app. They asked us whether we would be interested in distributing Ecency points to the people taking part in the Liotes Mission. We found this a great idea and it gives us the opportunity to show this front-end to our community:

Ecency Desktop app
Ecency in Google play
Ecency in App Store

The challenge of this week

Today we would like you to share your experience with the Ecency app. Do you use the app? Have you downloaded the mobile app? Could you imagine using the app?

In addition to the normal rewards for taking part in the challenge, we will distribute 1000 Ecency points among all the participants.

Write your answer as a comment below this post to take part in the Liotes Mission.

The Liotes Mission

By taking part in the Liotes missions, you can win credits that will help you to increase your score and your title in the Liotes Ranking.

People who submit an answer will get 4 credits for the Liotes ranking.

We are very grateful if you enter the challenge within 24 hours after the post is published. We will try to count entries up to 36 hours after publication.

I started out on Ecency and like their platform. I use Peaked more often now since it works really well in a mobile browser, but I’m still a fan of what Ecency is doing. !LUV

Ecency has a mobile application too. I am using it on Android 11 on my smartphone (Samsung Galaxy A12). Other than occasional crashes and lags, it works very well. Nowadays Ecency is my favorite Hive frontend.

Some details about crashes would be helpful always, we are improving memory usage every update and making sure you get less crash... Do let us know whichever way is quickest, email, discord or mention comment 😉

The @ecency crashes are absolutely/totally random, but most often they occur during post writing.

Ah @melinda010100 recently gave us some details, we have a lead why it is crashing. So next update will certainly include a fix for this, at least editor related crashes. Thanks!

I have only been on Hive for 8 days and found it via Ecency. At the time I had no idea there were other frontends to Hive. I mainly use the Ecency mobile app for commenting and voting. But I find the desktop version better for writing posts as I can see a preview of how the post will look once I publish it. I like the fact that Ecency lets me earn points which I can use in various ways such as boosting or promoting posts, although I am still trying to get my head around how this works. So, although I'm not familiar with other frontends,

I have found ecency quite straight forward to use. The problem is understanding how Hive works. It would be great if there was a way of giving new users information on how it works, especially Resource Credits, when they first sign up. I think a lot of people don't stick around simply because they run out of RC and suddenly find there is little they can do. But knowing nothing about technology or how Hive frontends work, I don't know if there is anything that can be done about this.

Off topic, but welcome to Hive. The fact that you even know about RCs after only 8 days is impressive to me. I think it took me two years, I mean, more than eight days. And agreed, one of the biggest frustration points with someone trying to get started is that after only a few actions, they are locked out due to low RCs, they get confused, they get frustrated, they walk away, and that's it.

I found a really good guide yesterday that explains things in detail and in a fairly easy to understand way. I've reblogged if you are interested.

One of the things he mentions is a website called gift giver.site where you can get some free RC to get you started. I had a few people help me out with RC in the beginning, had I not had their help I probably wouldn't have stuck about.

Yes I do use both the Ecency site and app. I use the app more often when I am outside and don't have access to my laptop. My experience with the app is good, but I use it mostly for viewing. Most of my posting are still done on the desktop using various sites like you have mentioned.

Actually, I can't do everything in the mobile version either, mainly just commenting and voting, I call it old school 😁, I have to prepare everything in my computer, well, the new upgrades will also have easy image editing, so I'll try to post something from mobile as well.

It is without a doubt the application that I use the most almost from the beginning. It is very simple to use and clean in its execution. It is not the one that has the most statistics and services but I personally like to keep things simple.
The only but that I would put is the exchange of points. Sometimes they are returned and that is annoying. I don't know very well the reason why the same type of publications are accepted some times and not others.

I went throught the FAQ and it seems that there are mediators who check the posts and if they deem it not fit to be bosted they return the points.

Ecency has live curators for boosting posts. This means that each post which is boosted with Ecency points is checked by curators. Sometimes, if curators don't like the post (or if post doesn't fit the criteria, ie. minimum 50 words and an image, or more than two days old, ...etc) the boost is ignored and the points returned. Everything is explained in Ecency Discord Channel.

Each curator is free to choose which posts receive a curation vote. Sometimes it is simply a matter of the Ecency VP being low, and when you don't receive a boost your POINTS are returned after 24 hours.Boosts are never guaranteed, but keep trying!

Outside of using LeoFinance I end up using Ecency heavily. I love the UI and smooth surfing and browsing around the site. The notification system is on point with great filters and honestly it just makes for a very good UI with good layout and options.

That plus the points earned to allow me to promote my posts are a huge plus for getting some new awareness to my posts here on Hive which I think is one of the hardest things to do. I'd highly recommend anyone starting out to use the platform and stock up on those points. Write what you feel is a top of the line article and drop a vote from ecency on there and a 2-3 day promotion. Keep doing that as often as possible and you'll start to see your followers and exposure increase which is a critical element to your success here on hive.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Do you note a significant difference when you promote your posts over ecency in terms of interaction and upvotes?

0

Some times but the promotion gives it a little exposure but it's not really targeted to a group so it needs to be eye catching that someone will want to click on the image to read more. Mainly what works is the vote which helps push the post into hot or trending on hive at least for a little and that's where the big exposure comes from. Sadly most people just blast through and upvote already high upvoted posts lol.

I have been using the Ecency app for a while now. It is very convenient especially when you are on the go or want to immediately make a reply or comment. I have even creatsome posts a few months ago about how to use the app. I love it. I am even making this comment on the app. Take care.

I used the app a fair amount back in steem days. I wanted something that worked on mobile and the two options seemed to be ecency (then called esteem) and Partiko. They both had their strengths in my view. I never used PeakD then, whatever it was called then.

Since Hive, I've used PeakD mostly, still use ecency a smaller bit. As far as using the app, I'm sure it's great and works well. My thinking is that the PeakD interface works well on mobile (and I'm already accustomed to where things are), plus I don't need to download a native app onto my phone and take up space/update when updates come out. I'm a big fan of PWAs that exist in the cloud rather than native, downloaded apps.

0
0
0.000
avatar

I am also a fan of PWA's because my phone never seems to have enough storing capacity for these apps lol.

0
0
0.000
avatar

Yes, this is exactly the main reason! That combined with no need to update the app. When a PWA updates and you load it, guess what...you already have the newest version. What if a big security risk was found in you're favorite app. Uh oh, got to update...assuming you know about it and can wait until update time, you can fix it then. But til then...not ideal.

D.buzz has figured this out. Even when you download Dbuzz to your phone or PC, you're really not. Instead, you're simply adding a small icon-link that launches the PWA app in your chosen browser. Think of it as a dbuzz tab. And yet, it still looks feels and acts like an app on you're phone (doesnt look feel and act like another tab). @dbuzz

I will say that natives apps likely run faster, can likely do more complicated things, and PWAs are likely not always even possible (depending on what the goal is). But, if possible at all, I like PWAs, first due your phone space reason and secondly due to updates

0

avatar

I try to get as few apps on my phone as possible. I think that with too many apps, you will have more difficulties to keep them up to date, which requires space and also brandwith. Also since, I hate these updates, I often jump them which then opens security issues.

I use ecency, but more to gain ecency points than whatnot. My posts are usually written and published on peakd.

I do like ecency and it's layout, however, the main thing that makes it lose out to peakd (for my usage) is the INABILITY to make customised lists.

I find it absolutely critical to have the ability to group authors into various groups. I do follow people on HIVE across a wide variety of topics and I don't want it all jumbled up. Makes for a jarring reading experience.

I consider Peakd as the swiss army knife for the hive blockchain. You can do almost everything with it. Unfortunately I have some difficulties to log in on my mobile and that's where an app like ecency can come in handy.

Experience...
I have already used it for around 7 months 🤔. I'm using it every day to do hive activities.

Good experience:

  1. Just my preferences. UI of notifications and drafts are better than peakD and hive.blog 🧐
  2. Ecency has ecency points to boost or promote posts. That's amusing :3
    image

Bad experience:

  1. The first impression of the discord community is bad. There was a misunderstanding and someone asked me to make my blockchain and shoo me out of the hive community. Maybe I just came to ecency's discord at a bad time. Luckily, it had already been solved by good people who understand my question. 🤗
Main topic: Draft still can't save "Power up 100%" as a default to post. I need to change it from Default 50%/50% to Power Up 100% every time I publish. But, it works before publishing.
    image

Ex:

  • Edit to power up 100% -> Update draft -> Close and open it again tomorrow, it'll still power up 100% 👍
  • Edit to power up 100% -> Update draft -> Publish -> Open the draft and it backs to Default 50%/50%

^The one that can do this is hive.blog with this feature
image

Overall, the ecency website is good and better than others for me.

Continue...
Mobile applications? Not yet... as I just use my smartphone for business only 😅.

I can imagine it as I'm already using the website version.

It's a pleasure to get more ecency points from taking parts of Liotes mission 👍

Ecency is my 2nd favourite Dapp and one that I use regularly. I have installed the mobile app and hope to use it more on the go.

1)What I like is that it is VERY reliable. It is usually always working when I need it. I cant even remember the last time there may have been an issue.
2)Nice and detailed notifications
3)Lots of ways to earn Ecency points
4)There seems to be active development and maintenance of the platform and responsible people around
5)Getting upvotes and support for my content from the ecency team

Possible improvements or nice to haves:
1)Better wallet functions, i feel happier working with peakd on wallet activities
2)Tradable ecency points on Hive Engine
3)Better filter/searching of content

Thanks Ecency Team! <3

Thank you for your suggestions!

  1. What particular improvement you want to see in Wallet page?
  2. Points are not Engine token yet. But we are working on our own token.
  3. Search has advanced filters, did you check? For example, open this link and see how many options you have and how to best filter content: https://ecency.com/search/?adv=1&date=all&q=games&sort=newest

(Edited)

Thanks for getting back to me.

  1. I prefer seeing the total $ value should be at the end after savings. I want to see Hive values first when I look in the wallet.
I prefer to see delegations in a list form on the current page and not a popup.
Better filtering of transactions by Hive /HBD.
    Date ranges
    Account/transaction exports to csv

The hive engine wallet is too big and clunky and unusable.
I need to see the most important tokens with a nice overview.

2 2. Sounds great!

3.3. This should be easier to find from the homepage / discover button etc. Content discovery is hard on ecency.

Thanks for your work on the app!

Ecency is an amazing app on the Hive ecosystem. I would say one of the best. The operation of Ecency is simply unique and the features are amazing.

Ecency is fast, sweet in UI/UX, Ecency rewards user loyalty with points and Ecency helps to retain hive users.

I made a whole post here about Ecency.

Thank you for this contest.

Ecency has been my best interface and I use it daily (posting, commenting, curating, reblogging, etc) and I got so used to it that it has became my "home" UI. Aside from that it is fast to load, I like that I can filter out the notifications. It gets hard to keep up with hundreds of notifs but I can easily filter them into "Replies", "Mentions" etc.

Added bonus are the Ecency points that I collect doing my usual activities adds up which I can use to boost my posts too.

I use ecency when I need to post using mobile. However, I find it limiting in that once I have typed up a certain length, it goes blank for me and I'm unable to edit. I have found a way around it though. Personally I liked @dapplr when it was still working.

I use Ecency from almost day 1 of my Hive journey. Their point system is awesome, it gives the much needed incentive to people to engage and rewards with boost is a godsend for new users to jumpstart their blogging habits. They provide incentive for user retention, which is essential to the success of Hive.

I don't use the app and only the web based frontend. I've been pleased with the overall experience using the site itself. The big stumbling block is running into the inability to post because of resource limits and being refunded my points. This is disappointing to experience and kills the flow especially for newer users to the site.

What I have learned from the comments here is that there is a curation team that can refuse to promote some posts and therefeore the points might be refunded.

Boosted posts need to show effort and be new posts(1or 2 days old) Low effort posts asking for a max vote are often refunded by curators. Boosts are not guaranteed.

I have downloaded the app and use only to look for latest updates, I need to setup hivesigner before I fully utilize its features. Since I do my work at home, I only need ecency mobile app during travel time.

I found one things when I quickly swipe to another app and then return to Ecency app, it just hangs at heart logo screen, but after reopening it works fine.

Just saw this since I follow Liotes on LeoFinance but not on other front-ends (since I rarely use them).

I don't do much posting or curating on Ecency since I'm almost exclusively on LeoFinance, but I do like to use it for notifications. It's quick, clear, and very simple to use so I'm on it pretty much daily. I've amassed a few thousand points so if and when I start posting on a regular basis again, I'll be able to promote my posts. I like the fact that you basically get paid to use the front-end, even though the points aren't really worth much as an asset.

Still, who doesn't like watching their balance grow? :-)

I love Ecency although I am still quite new. I started off on another platform but I decided to make the switch to ecency. Mostly because of ecency points and how useful they are. I also liked creating communities on ecency better than other platforms for some reason. I also love how easy it is to earn ecency points. I never close the website because of it, but also as a side effect it has gotten me more and more into hive. Why bother browsing reddit, facebook, or twitter when I can just browse ecency and earn?? social media of the past is dead and ecency is the future.
