Fiber Art Odds and Ends
(Edited)
This week included a variety of needlework. I did an article on smocking for a customer, including taking some sample photos:
I also finished another of my striped scarves for etsy and started a new, narrower design to add to the shop. And speaking of etsy, here is a purchase I made recently for my next fiber venture. How many know what these are used for?
I also committed to test knit a baby hat for a friend, The Deplorable Knitter. She has a fabulous shop full of affordable knitting patterns for hats and cowls in colorwork.
Have a great week, y'all, and may all your projects proceed smoothly without ripping back!

It‘s a Handspindel and some roving. And I am looking forward to hear more about your adventures in yarn spinning.

.I've never tackled smocking. Looks tricky!
The technique in the photo is honeycombing and doesn't require a fancy pleater or gathering of the fabric. You just take tiny stitches in corners of gingham squares in a set pattern. I have instructions in an old Lee Ward's needlecraft library volume. Here is a video I found:
Oh my, I hadn't thought about Lee Wards for years. Does it even exist any more?
No, so I hang on to my 1976 needlecraft library books like gold! !BEER
