HELLO HIVE!

It started a new month of this year 2021, and I need to have a notebook to organize all the activities I want to share with you, so I decided to make it myself and show you how you can make one at home, using recycled material.

Materiales || Materials

  • Cartón de caja.
  • Papel kraft o papel de embalar.
  • Pintura.
  • Pegamento.
  • Hilo.
  • Aguja.
  • Punzón.
  • Cartulina de construcción o algún papel bonito.
  • Hojas
  • Cardboard box.
  • Kraft paper or wrapping paper.
  • Paint.
  • Glue.
  • Thread.
  • Needle.
  • Punch.
  • Construction paper or some nice paper.
  • Sheets of bond paper.

Proceso || Process

1- I started the elaboration of the notebook by making several groups of 5 sheets, which should be folded in half, to obtain the booklets. This will also allow to define the size of the notebook.

2- Two pieces of cardboard of box will be cut according to the size of the booklets plus 5mm towards the top, bottom and right side. Both are lined with kraft paper. On the surface of the covers, apply glue to the entire area to prevent the paper from tearing.

3- To give a better finish to the covers, I decided to line what will be the inside with yellow construction paper. And I decorated the lining with a design that I painted with acrylic paint.

Ensamblaje || Assembly

The first thing to do is to mark and perforate on the fold line of the booklets the points where the thread will pass through to make the binding, leaving 1.5cm between the edge and the first point at the ends of the paper. Then place those same points on the left side of both pieces of cardboard.

Once the perforations are ready, the coptic stitching process begins, which is exposed as part of the notebook design.

To obtain the amount of thread needed, measure the length of the length of the booklets and multiply it by the number of booklets we have plus the 2 pieces of cardboard.

The stitching starts by passing the needle from the inside to the outside at one of the end points of the cardboard piece that will be located at the back of the notebook. Tie and repeat the process at the same point. Insert the needle in the same end located in the first booklet, continue to the continuous point of the booklet and return to the cardboard piece, but now the water will be inserted from the outside to the inside, and return to the booklet until you reach the last hole of that booklet, but then the needle will be inserted in the second booklet. And in the opposite direction the whole sewing process is done. The booklets will be kept together because the thread must be passed between the thread that was sewn to the previous booklet and the cover or the booklets in front of it.

When reaching the cover of the booklet, the links for fastening and joining will be made from the outside to the inside through the perforations marked on the booklet.
