HoHoHo!

Are you still celebrating for 2021?

I've thought to create a short moment along with my buddies Chip and Dale and Donald Duck ...

They whispered me that they would like to wish you all a year filled with health, abundance, prosperous lives, harmony and peace ...

IMG-20210101-WA0004.jpg

As you can see, Donald Duck could make some magic and under his topper he could made appearing a coin ... :) maybe some of you would imagine at least 1 #btc :))

Not so important ... at this moment, the way everything goes inside this World ... it's not funny anymore ...

Maybe for us, the artists, these times will change everything for our Future ...

https://open.spotify.com/artist/3QvHYClgWdIJnF0qXucP6A

Maybe even our creations presented inside this virtual matrix, will no more be so sustainable and important, not that in the Past they were ... It seems like #art ... the true one was ment always to receive bread-crumbs ... and i am kind of tired of this non-sense ...

Even if our buddies, Chip and Dale are trying to maintain a positive thinking, i am kind of in a mood of stepping out from this silly matrix ... where you write, create each day and the feedback is just in bread-crumbs ...

IMG-20210101-WA0006.jpg

Then, you ask yourself what's wrong with your art :) and you're expecting people to purchase your albums ... and even if they are filled with compositions from different musical spectrums packed under your own touch of creativity ... no one seems to care ...

https://luciannagybalkumbatribe.bandcamp.com/album/state-of-soul-2

https://luciannagy.bandcamp.com/album/hyat-ep-album

By the way, for a price of 7 euros for our Hyat album, did you knew that the artist, in this case me :) remains with less than 5 euros ? :)

Food for thought ... if you think an artist becomes a millionaire through #bandcamp ...

Interesting enough they did this campaign of plandemic Friday non-sense donations for artists ... I am tired with this also ...

Anyway ...

Happy 2021!

Because it's happy, right? :)

D*rn, the comment below turned out be longer than I anticipated and is more serious than I wanted, but still, I like to give you the experiences I gained over the last 3 decades or so with respect to the electronic music side of things.

Though am not an artist, not earning anything with my hobby drawings, I have a few friends in the music business, ranging from DJs and electronic music artists to people supporting artists in form of bookers and managers. What I learned through them, as well as my decades full of attending 'dance' events (clubs, festivals and all) is that music is an industry, a business.

Back in the early 90s when I went to my first 'rave', electronic music was in the underground for 100%. Lots and lots of possibilities for many artists, but the gig payments were low, most artists could not make a living out of this, artists fees were affordable for many promoters (most of them tiny little fan-based businesses). Since the end of the 90s and early 2000, this electronic music section started to climb out of the underground. The events became bigger, gig fees increased, production costs increased, entertainment levels increased. All this was driving the mass to start attending these events and embrace this music genre. And everything since then builds from there.

This whole sector became a business. And as in any business, a few earn a shitload of money, a handful+ make really good money, the 'middleclass'+ earn good enough money is much larger in numbers (worldwide), but compared to all those who are at the bottom half of the pyramid, they earn very well. The bottom half of this pyramid earn no to little money.

The money earned by the artists in the top, attracts new artists, resulting in the enormous growth in numbers of electronic music producers in last two decades. Most of them want a breakthrough, want to play at festivals and in clubs. Though in several places in the world (such as in my own country) gazillion club nights and festivals are happening, and a super large part of the younger generation are attending one to more of these events annually, there is simply not enough room to provide all these artists with a stage.

And because it's a real business by now, organising an event costs a lot of money, promoters start to play 'save' and book at least a few big names costing them shitloads of money, but more or less guarantee them to cover the costs and hopefully make a profit.

This leaves even less room for those artists that are not well known by the public, the mass.

This whole transition in the electronic music side of things, I've seen with my own eyes unfolding over the last 3+ decades. This showed me what art means and what it means for an artist when the art segment becomes a business.

While when art is not a business, the art is in the underground, giving a stage for many artists, the money sucks, those who attend to the art, the people, are true fans, the minority by far in our society. While when art is a business, only the sub-top to the top in the pyramid of all artists, make enough money to pay for their lives, while all the rest need additional revenue streams.

Is this fair and correct? That can be debated. But it's the natural effect for everything in a free world, therefore also for art and artists. No matter how cool some art is, art is only truly appreciated by a small number of people, the mass doesn't care. When art is a business, then the only way for an artist to make decent money is to treat art as a business and run it as a business. This means investing in time and money. For many artists, this means: Paying others to handle all the business tasks, because of their networks, their knowledge, their focus or whatever that can help to push the artist up the ladder. In electronic music, many artists are producing, not to earn money with it (since many don't; ie nothing to just tiny bits) but purely for marketing purposes; Purely to be able to get the next gig. Only a very very few earn good money with productions.

I don't know how you go around with your art. But I know that when publishing and trying to sell music through Bandcamp, it is not enough to publish it over there and run some campaigns on other social media platform (must at least be paid ads, otherwise the reach is next to nothing anyway, but even paid ads will very likely not do the trick). Its also not enough to be here at HIVE blogging about and sharing the art. In the end, the income through these channels is peanuts in the grand scheme of life and the number of dollars needed to sustain at least a basic life. I can only advise you: When not doing so already, start treating your art as a business. Give yourself a timeframe with goals. Invest where needed. Get people on board supporting you to step higher up the ladder. When you see progress, set new goal's, invest even more,.... repeat repeat repeat.

Anyways :) I do hope you have a wonderful 2021

HoHoHo! Happy 2021 to you too @edje and thanks for your comment and advice. I
ve done all these protocols and i am still doing it. Maybe you've realized that i am not a kind of "just a niche" artist, like for instance, i would play only pop music ... I am recording and producing inside many sub-genres of music, and o course through my compositions, like so many other artists were trying, i am also exploring to find my inner voice ... which somehow started for some time to shape ...

For instance in matter of #elcrtonic music recently i've started a collaboration with @strangersouma and we've released already two music productions ...

Expansion EP

https://open.spotify.com/album/28Cor8kXSdAMNWCQoauGD9

Hyat album

https://open.spotify.com/album/2EbbD1XN49p8Q75OK9RFXk

The problem with live concerts, especially now is that there are none :) and for instance in my case this year i've lost thousands of $$$ because my manager from DE was forced to cancel everything ... I supposed to be in recordings an concerts with an amazing oud player, Ali Jabor from Irak, as well as with Rhani Krija ( percussionist for Sting, Sarah Connor) and nothing happened anymore ...

This is the major problem nowadays ... Somehow the majority of this society, who wanted everything to be at their little finger and the maximum distance of one click, even through these new crypto platforms for art they are not inetersted to acces your art ... Maybe sometimes, if you were listening one song from someone, and maybe it was jazz, and, you didn't like that genre of music, maybe you've started with that pre-concept and you think that this artist will remain in that cube and will not grow anymore in matter of playing, mastering new music genres ... or even from time to time to re-invent himself like in its own inner Rennaissance Era :)

This is the problem ... too much information and the lack of knowledge of people on this subject of what is truly an artistic creation and deserves to place your eyes and ears on it ...

And the confusion will step further especially right now in our times through which we are running like crazy encrypted humans :)

Regards

Yea, 2020 was sh*t for performances, and when some did some live stream or event, the pay was zero or next to nothing. I know quite a few artists in survival mode. None of them can perform. Some of them converted their gained free time into making some more cool music. But yea, its struggling for as ling as events are not programmed/allowed. But am bullish for 2021 on this front. The big events may not happen in Europe, too late for them to arrange and organise. But I think the small events will go this summer onwards. I hope at least :)

In digital platform where anybody can upload and share their content, I see a huge problem for the professional quality content. That get snowed under by all the mediocre to bad content. This is true for HIVE and is true for all these music platforms allowing anybody to upload and in particualr the crypto based music platforms. For the music fan such crypto platforms do not become a goto platform, also for the reasons most to all of them are not user friendly enough. That said, I dont go to crypto music platforms for some artists. And when I do, I'm triggered by a post on HIVE, and after I listened, I forget about that platform again. The standard habbit of the fan, the music listener.

oo much information and the lack of knowledge of people on this subject of what is truly an artistic creation and deserves to place your eyes and ears on it ...

Thats synonym to everything of quality. But yea, you are right. Though this is a 'problem' that never will go away. The mass don't care, never did, and never will.

Someone at HIVE posted this the other day...
