Prompt A Day | Thinking About Thinking

March 10th, 70th day of 2020. Another day for Prompt A Day challenge by @shadowspub.

If there's one thing I miss, it's being in school; graduate school, that is. I'm actually a thesis short of getting my M.A. in Early Childhood Education. Life got in the way; and when things got sorted out, my heart wasn't into it anymore.

Today's Word Prompt: Metacognition

According to Wikipedia,

Metacognition is "cognition about cognition", "thinking about thinking", "knowing about knowing", becoming "aware of one's awareness" and higher-order thinking skills.

Metacognition also involves thinking about one's own thinking process such as study skills, memory capabilities, and the ability to monitor learning.

This is one time when I could say that it's not the first time that I encountered the term metacognition. It's one of the topics that we constantly discussed during my graduate studies. In some ways, I do miss those days. However, so many years have passed since I was last in school, and somehow, my priorities have changed. School learning is basically theoretical. I have come to a point in my life when I want to apply the theories.

I will always be an educator and student at heart. I believe that learning is a lifelong process, so we should not pass up the chance to constantly learn new ideas and ways of doing things. These days I like doing it myself. When I need to learn about something, I would go out of my way to research and read more about certain topics. We are at a point in time when information is at the tip of our fingers.
