dCity Investments - Top 10 cards to buy on the market

For quite some time I have wondered what cards to buy on the market. As I could not believe that all cards were overpriced on the market, but yet it seemed like it was best to always buy random 1st edition cards.

It was only when I started using a spreadsheet that I found that not always should you buy random cards. Even though that is still a good way to grow and you could be lucky and get that Social Aid Office, at which point you can make a seriously good profit or save yourself a lot of sim for buying one.

What I am working with is averages. I use the 30 day average prices from the Cityhelper discord bot. I compare those with the expected SIM income increase from buying random 1st edition cards in the game. Also I look what you pay on average per 1 SIM income increase. So Luxury homes at a price of 222 SIM on the market that have 2 SIM income gives a price of 111 Sim per 1 SIM increased income for your dcity.

When you don’t have any technologies, then you pay about 144 SIM per 1 SIM increased income for your dcity. If you want to calculate if a price is right for a card on the market, all you have to do is take the SIM income of the card and multiply it by 144. If that is a higher number than the lowest price on the market then you should buy from the market.

With cheap technologies like Basic Automation, GMO Farming and Eco Energy this changes by the way. If you have GMO farming, then you should multiply not by 144, but by 130. When you have Eco Energy, then it goes down to 122 for buying 2nd edition random cards. 3rd edition cards give you less income per SIM spent.

Let’s look at the cards. I will give you the ones that are the cheapest income generators.(Obviously taxes and Crisis events have a huge impact on your income, but if you are looking for simple SIM income increase then this is the list for you)

Car Dealership

The cheapest way to increase your SIM income is the Car Dealership. Over the last 30 days it was sold for 1019 SIM on average, which is only 68 SIM paid for each 1 SIM income increase. This is before taxes and crisis events obviously. A good choice if you can pick it up for around 1000 SIM.

The downside of the Car Dealership is that it can get robbed for 300 SIM, so make sure that your Crime rate is low!

Music Store

The Music Store is almost as efficient as the Car Dealership and cannot be robbed, so probably a better choice if you can pick it up for 550 SIM or less.

the Farm

This card only deserves a spot in this list on the condition that you have the GMO Farming technology. Without this technology it is not worth the investment. You should be able to get a Farm for about 700 SIM these days.

The great thing about the Farm is that it has population too, so it takes care (partly) of its own need for workers. That makes it still one of the best cards to buy.

the Hotel

If you can pick up an Hotel for about 750 SIM or less, then this is also a very good card for your dcity and more profitable than random cards. Just like the Farm it has the potential to take care of its own workers.

the Casino

Another card that can get robbed, which probably causes the low price on the market. But if you have crime under control, so that you don’t get robbed for 400 SIM constantly, then it is not a bad investment. You should get it for about 1800 SIM to be a great deal.

the Barber Shop

The Barber Shop not only is a cheap increase for your SIM income, but it also has a great income/worker ratio. It gives you 8 SIM income for only 3 population. Which is great. You should be able to get it for about 600 SIM.

the Ice Cream Shop

This card is very similar to the Barber Shop, but is slightly more expensive at around 615 SIM average over the last 30 days. Still not a bad choice.

the Pizzeria

This card is quite similar to the Barber shop and Ice Cream shop, but has 1 extra SIM income and should cost you about 700 SIM.

the Forest

The price for this card has come down a lot and where it was usually too expensive before it is now a pretty decent choice if you can pick it up for about 310 SIM. It also has a good Income/Worker ratio.

The Ad Agency and the Stadium just didn’t make it to the list, but they were pretty close.
