dCity Investments - what cards should you buy on the market?

For quite some time I have wondered what cards to buy on the market. As I could not believe that all cards were overpriced on the market, but yet it seemed like it was best to always buy random 1st edition cards.

It was only when I started using a spreadsheet that I found that not always should you buy random cards. Even though that is still a good way to grow and you could be lucky and get that Social Aid Office, at which point you can make a seriously good profit or save yourself a lot of sim for buying one.

What I am working with is averages. I use the 30 day average prices from the Cityhelper discord bot. I compare those with the expected SIM income increase from buying random 1st edition cards in the game. Also I look what you pay on average per 1 SIM income increase. So Luxury homes at a price of 222 SIM on the market that have 2 SIM income gives a price of 111 Sim per 1 SIM increased income for your dcity.

When you don’t have any technologies, then you pay about 120 SIM per 1 SIM increased income for your dcity. If you want to calculate if a price is right for a card on the market, all you have to do is take the SIM income of the card and multiply it by 120. If that is a higher number, then the lowest price on the market then you should buy from the market.

With cheap technologies like Basic Automation and GMO Farming this changes by the way. If you have Basic Automation, then you should multiply not by 120, but by 117.

Let’s look at the cards. I will give you the ones that I think are best.

the Farm

Farm’s are really quite overpriced on the market, unless you have the GMO Farming technology. This turns Farms into the best card you can get, as long as the price is below 1100 SIM roughly. If you can get it for less than 1000 SIM, then you definitely should. Also because it has population included, so if your popularity rating is high enough, it takes care of its own workers.

the Casino

Casino’s increase crime and can be robbed for 400 SIM, but when you have reduced crime in your dcity, then Casino’s are actually really cheap compared to the SIM income they generate. If you have a low crime rate, then if you can pick on up for less than 2400 SIM, you have a pretty good deal. That is without the calculations for the Gamer tokens they create. If you can get them close to 2000 SIM, then that is really awesome.

the Hotel

If you can pick up an Hotel for about 950 SIM or less, then this is also a very good card for your dcity and more profitable than random cards. Just like the Farm it has the potential to take care of its own workers.

the Ad Agency

The Ad Agency is a card that is often overlooked I think. But if you can get it for 900 SIM or less, you actually have a very profitable card for your dcity.

the Weed Dispensary

The Weed Dispensary card is quite popular and for good reason. It has a good worker to income ratio, it gives a nice popularity boost and you can find it on the market for a good price usually. If you can get it for 1050 SIM, then you have a really good deal. I really don’t understand why anyone would sell them.

the Restaurant

The Restaurant is pretty similar to the Weed Dispensary. The only difference is the Popularity. So if you can pick one up for 1050 SIM or less, then you have a good deal.

the Stadium

The Stadium is a card that didn’t get a lot of attention, until the moment they started producing Entry tokens. They are still not expensive and if you can get them for 1600 SIM or less, then they are really awesome.

the Night club

The Night club is another card that doesn’t get a lot of attention, but due to that they are really quite inexpensive when looking at their SIM income. If you can get on for 850 SIM or less, then that is really good.

the Wind turbine

The Wind turbine is getting a bit overpriced on the market, because it does have negative popularity that you need to do something about. And you need the tier 2 technology Eco Energy for it to be profitable. So for that reason it is at the bottom of this list. If you have that technology and you can get it for 500 SIM or less, then you can make it work.

If you have any other cards that you would like to hear my opinion on, then do let me know.

These are some good insights here. I’ve increased my city quite a bit lately so that’s been nice. I’ve just crossed 400 population this week so my income is slowly getting up there. I’m looking forward to when I can buy one SIM card a day from the game. I don’t know if I would do it necessarily but having the option to buy one if I feel lucky is nice.

I just got a weed dispensary the last time I bought a few cards from the game not the market and I’ve been happy with it.

I was curious how I was getting entry tokens in my hive engine wallet lol thanks for that, I’ve got 2 stadiums I think.

Oh that's nice, you will see that it starts snowballing soon. Dcities compounding effect is massive.

Gamer cards work as small multipliers by the way for producing entry tokens. Don't confuse them with gamblers though. As they do that for gamer tokens from casino's.

Yeah the compounding thing I’ve noticed for sure. I’ve been trying to get more homeless and immigrants into my city. I am guessing that is tied to popularity? I saw a jump from 3% to 6% change to get free people every 2 hours but wasn’t entirely sure what it was tied to.

By the way you should have whatever referral bonus coming to you on Celsius, I signed up with your link and transferred some crypto (>200$) over there to se what the interest rate is like and how to gain it.

Yes, it is tied to polarity indeed. A beer fest will increase it quite a bit by the way.

Gerber did change how often you get them too once per day, so not more than one per day.

By the way job centers are really cheap right now. I haven’t seen them this cheap before. Just a little over 800 sim.

Oh that is awesome about Celsius, hard nothing from them yet. I will keep an eye on that.

I just looked up the referral rules from Celsius. They give a payout after you had the funds in the wallet for 30 days.

I am buying "Weed farms" but with recent price spike of Weed , price of this card spiked a lot.

I am saving all SIM now. (Plan was to sell for Hive but look like I am getting strong urge for Military Complex now).

Yeah, I would wait a little with the weed farms. Prices might go down when the new edition cards come.

thanks for writing this. What are your thoughts on the garbage dump cards? I can't think of any use for them unless you have advanced recycling which is not on the market.

Well, I don’t have that technology yet. As it is quite rare and very expensive. But still I think garbage dumps are useful for small/medium sized dcities.

It helps you get a higher popularity rating when you have more than 25 different cards. I now get a 110% bonus to population, which means that the 5 population from a farm is enough to get 11 workers that are needed to make it produce 10 sim tokens a day, as I do have the gmo farming technology.

Big dcities without advanced recycling will sell them because they usually have way too much population already.
