Splinterlands - Exploding Dwarf (Weekly Battle Post)

My first impression of the Exploding Dwarf was to ignore it due mostly the fact that it was only one health. After seeing how players use the monster and especially during matches with rule set Equalizer, making all monsters health highest number relative to opponent or my own monster's highest single value. The key was to keep Exploding Dwarf alive as long as possible since its 5 melee attack could exert massive damage.

Battle Using Exploding Dwarf

The battle to follow is interesting because I used Exploding Dwarf not when the rule set was Equalizer but Armor Up. I did this also because of the limited mana allowed in the match.

The match was a 17 mana and had rule sets Armor Up and Rise of Commons. I would lead off with Exploding Dwarf followed up with Furious Chicken, Ooze, Pixie, Goblin, and end with Kobold Miner. While my opponent went with Cerberus, Furious Chicken, Money, Kobold Miner, Goblin, and ending with Bettle. All in all we were relatively match with a mix of melee and magic monsters. I feel I had a slight upper hand since all my monsters were level 4 and above while my opponent was level 3 and up.

Round 1

Not an ideal way to present Exploding Dwarf but nevertheless I used it in battle hence I think qualifies for use in the post. Anyways I knocked out my opponent's Furious Chicken and Cerberus before it could heal. On the flip side my Dwarf and Chicken were knocked out.

Round 2

At the end of this round my Ooze was knocked out, but not before I was able to knock out their Monkey and Beetle. It certainly was a bit surprising to be able to knock out their Beetle in just two rounds but Pixie's Inspire ability prove to be enough to get my Kobold Miner the 3 melee to knock the Beetle out in two rounds.

Round 3

Prior to start of round 3 my Pixie survived from a miss attack. With that it was enough to withstand the third round with my Goblin and Miner left while my opponent was down to their Goblin.

Round 4

This match would be finish in 4 rounds as my monsters were higher level and outmatch my opponent with a 2 to 1.

Conclusions

I was a bit surprise my Exploding Dwarf was not able to be as effective in the match than planned. It did attack first to reduce Cerberus down to one health and would be easily finished of with my magic attacks. However Dwarf would not survive through the first round. While I give credit to my Pixie as it supported the formation with its Inspiring ability to add +1 melee across the board and able to make my opponent miss an attack. The miss attack was enough to allow my formation to withstand my opponent's damage and outlast them. This goes to show just how important the middle and rear of the formation has to be in order to get a win.

Its health is too low to realistically last more than one round - but in the absence of equaliser or melee attack from anyhwere/ sneak, what you did with it is about all you can do, so good job on that!
