Years have passed since the release of GTA V, years of people talking and playing the game non-stop, even today it's a phenomenon that only seems to stop when GTA VI finally comes out, but before thinking about the future I'd like to go back in time, to the time when GTA IV was the star of the show.

Launched in 2008, GTA IV was the first in seventh generation consoles, that is, the Xbox 360 and the PS3, it also had a PC port, but its technical section was a bit more questionable, however on consoles it's a very good experience worthy of recognition.

This game represents the first GTA that I have ever managed to finish, not 100%, but I did love the story I have lived with the good Niko Bellic.

Niko is a war veteran from Eastern Europe, a place where he lived a lot of things that made him change a lot as a person, suffering the betrayal of one of the members of his group, without knowing exactly who, this betrayal caused his death of several of his comrades.

In search of the American dream that his cousin Roman offered him, Niko illegally emigrates to Liberty City (basically New York), Roman deluded Niko by telling him that he was leading the life of a millionaire, with sports cars, models, a mansion, and who knows how many more things, the sad reality is that Roman lives in a very run-down apartment and works in a taxi company where he isn't even fully respected.

Niko has no choice but to start doing work to collect money, the problem with this is that he is quickly absorbed by the criminal world that inhabits Liberty City in broad daylight, interacting with different personalities, some more powerful than others, starting by Vladimir Glevob, Roman's moneylender, through Mikail Faustin, Dimitri Rascalov, and others whom I will no longer mention, but each time Niko will climb and meet more powerful and dangerous people to work with, or to whom he is commissioned to assassinate.

The main plot revolves around Niko being betrayed by Dimitri Rascalov after he asked him to assassinate Faustin, since one of Dimitri's associates, Ray Bulgarin, was a former boss of Niko, who considers that Niko has him stolen and owes him money, and from here Niko and Roman are hunted by the Russian mafia with Dimitri at the head, being one of the main antagonists of the game.

A very positive aspect that I must mention about the story and the game in general are its characters, even the secondary ones, they feel human and credible, you love several of them, not to mention Niko, a complete, complex, and very interesting, from his accent to his very marked sense of sarcasm, they make him the ideal protagonist for the story they want to tell, a journey of revenge in which apart from adapting to life in Liberty City, he looks for the person responsible for the betrayal during the war.

The gameplay follows the line drawn from GTA III, a third-person shooter with a non-linear narrative, because we can complete certain missions in the order we want, in addition to having a kind of decision system, which is quite limited, but it is present, it is based basically on allowing you to spare the lives of certain people, whom you can kill, or not, or choose between killing one person and letting another live, just as one of these decisions determines the end that we are going to draw, being quite different, but as such neither has actually been verified as canonical.

Returning to the gameplay, we have the same formula as previous games, we can carry a weapon of each type, from melee, through pistols, machine guns, assault rifles, snipers and rocket launchers, until we reach the grenades.

An addition and in turn a characteristic feature that honors Liberty City, is that we can get on taxis as passengers, choose a destination, and let the driver do the rest, it also works as a fast travel system, as we can omit the trip paying a slightly higher amount, but it becomes very useful when we have to repeat a mission and we are lazy to make the trip again to the specific place.

With so many characters around Niko, a way was devised to improve your relationship with them, and that is that you can invite some of them to bars, bowling, restaurants, among other places, even in history Niko has different love interests with whom You can deepen your relationship, this is all optional of course.

I have never been a fan of Grand Theft Auto, but this true game that managed to captivate me, I found in it things that in its predecessors I did not finish finding, and I am not trying to say that they are bad games, I simply have not given myself the time to venture in them with the ease that I would like, however GTA IV is a highly recommended game if you want to enter the franchise, not only because of its story, but also because of its small details, its curious aspects, such as one that many surely know .

In the game there is a statue called the Statue of Happiness, a clear reference to the Statue of Liberty that exists in the real world. If we go with a helicopter and go through a passable door that is at its feet, we can go up some stairs to reach a giant heart chained inside the statue, we can not do anything else in here, but it is a very curious detail, and even a little cloudy.

These details are what give life to the game, which will undoubtedly remain in the hearts of many players for many years to come, despite being surpassed in some things by GTA V or even by the future GTA VI, it maintains that makes a good game, although I would recommend playing it before future installments to better appreciate the evolution of the franchise over the years.

And here ends today's post, as always thank you very much for reading to the end, I hope you liked it, with nothing more to add, see you in the next post, bye bye.
