Christmas themed Chinese glutinous rice balls (Tang Yuan, 汤圆)
It's the Winter Solstice yesterday... On this day, the Chinese will be celebrating with Tang Yuan (Chinese glutinous rice balls). This is a day where everyone will be gathering together eating Tang Yuan which symbolizes reunion. My girls made these "creative Christmas themed" Tang Yuan...
The normal Tang Yuan is really like a "meatball", and the round shape symbolizes completeness (圆满). So it means everyone in the family comes back for a reunion, complete gathering around and enjoying the meals together.
They were so happy sitting around the round table and making their unique Tang Yuan...
With love and all the best to everyone! ❤️❤️❤️

Children can be so creative! I love their colorful rice balls.
The color is being pre-mixed by their grandma. They just get to mould the rice ball into whatever shapes they like. And these two colors, white and "red" (suppose to be red, but then came out pinkish) are the normal Tang Yuan colors.
Interesting to know about the normal colors! I just learned something! I don't think I have ever gotten anything to turn truly red with food coloring. It's almost always a shade of pink.
