Our Organic Backyard Garden : Calamansi, Mature Okra, and More

Hi everyone from ASEAN! It's my very first time to post here and I wondered, what should I share to this community? Well, earlier today, we went to our backyard organic garden so I thought why not share that instead? So hopefully, you'll like this article.

My husband James took some fresh calamansi, our calamansi tree is just bearing too much, most of them just drop on the ground! This we consider blessings!

image.png

This calamansi tree or Philippine Lime tree is now very tall, we had to use a ladder to get some fruits. But mind you, it is giving us fresh ripe limes every single day! I remember my Belgian boss who loves calamansi! He puts it in his beer!

image.png

I have to take a wide angle photo for you to see it. It's not that big but its tall!

We also have papaya around, a caimito, old and huge, a guyabano, it has fruit now and we will wait until it ripens.

image.png

That's the caimito tree or Star Apple tree on the left which bears so much fruit too the past few months ago, we ate a lot! The guyabano or Soursop is still young but has already had fruit harvested from it before.

Then we also checked the pechay which are now ready to harvest, this will be good for some pork ribs soup!

image.png

We have to raised beds of soil for the pechay and both of them are ready for harvesting!

image.png

Moving on to the next plant, we have these local tomatoes. We also planted some cherry tomatoes but they are not bearing any fruit or flower so far.

image.png

The tomatoes are also almost ready, we were able to harvest some the previous days. There are more big ones and I could only think of "itlog maalat"! I wish I could find a good "itlog maalat" supply in the market soon.

image.png

Are you a fan of ladyfingers? We call it Okra here in our country. Its slimy and hairy too! I maybe wrong but it is not loved by many. Its actually good when steamed and then paired with some salty food like bagoong.

image.png

The ladyfingers which are now fully mature, we can't eat them all so they are just left in the plants. It might be best to give them to the neighbors but not all want "okra"!

image.png

We got a lot of Moringa plants or trees too! We do eat "utan bisaya" or local vegetable soup every lunch but the leaves keep blooming and they are looking fresh! I will try to make moringa-based pasta sauce soon for Matti! I have moringa powder that I use to add in for Matti's meals.

image.png

My father grows a lemon tree too but this is a different kind and which we are not sure what. The fruits are huge and its color is not that lemon yellow, its more on the pale yellow side. It is very sour and the seeds are also big inside.

Still, we use them in the kitchen. We even keep a jug of lemon water using these fruits. Then there's also the avocado tree! Its still young but its growing its leaves rapidly! I guess it has something to do with the soil being hydrated always.

image.png

We still have empty soil beds, we will grow some eggplants next and we will try to also plant some cauliflower and lettuce ! We will see if they'll grow well. Say hi to our native chickens, this hen hatched a lot of chicks but some died, now, she has around four.

Thank you for reading through! Take care!

What a bountiful garden, and funny you mentioned your Belgian loving calamansi in his beer. Belgian people love citrus beer, but I don't know why. Nice moringa tree, we really love putting the fresh leaves in various soups and curries.

Thanks for posting in ASEAN Hive and welcome to our little gang of friendly folks.
