Scariest Ghost Figures in Indonesia

avatar

Dear all Asean Hive Community members. This time I would like to talk about horror figures in Indonesia. Every country has different ghost stories. In Indonesia, there are some ghost figures that make people run away when they see one of them.
I have not seen those figures with my own eyes, but I have seen them in movies or videos. Some people may not believe in ghosts, but ghost stories are always interesting when you hang out at night with your friends. Some horror movie producers also make good money from creating horror movies.

  • Pocong

The dead body is covered in white fabric, tied over the head, under the feet, and around the neck.

Muslim tradition burried the dead body with kaffan. Pocong is a ghost figure of a dead body in kaffan.
There are too many stories about pocong in Indonesia. I think this is the most popular ghost figure in Indonesia.

  • Kuntilanak
Kuntilanak is a ghost, a female ghost figure dressed in white. The presence of this figure is preceded by the woman's shrill voice. Kuntilanak is the story of a dead woman who is pregnant. Her baby died tragically with her.

  • Gendruwo
This is also a very popular ghost figure in Indonesia. Gendruwo is a big figure with some fur on his body. The eyes are red. He resembled a King Kong figure.

Some believe that people can take care of gendruwo to look after houses from criminals.
  • Sundel bolong
Sundel means prostitute, and bolong means "a hole." Sundel Bolong comes from a story of a girl who was raped and died because she was trapped in a prostitution business. The figure usually appears as a beautiful girl, but in the end, she shows the hole in her back.

There were some movies that told stories about Sundel Bolong.
  • Wewe Gombel
It is a female figure who likes to kidnap kids. It often appears in the sunset. In Indonesia, children are not allowed to play outside during and after sunset.

Thanks for reading my post. This ghost figure story is just for fun. I think some of you like horror stories and movies. What is the most popular ghost figure in your country?

Yeah, I heard some stories of mountaineers who often meet strage figures. In Lawu, Bromo, and Salak mountains in Indonesia, there are some climbers who lost and a few of them found dead.

Fyi There's so many creature that has been clasified. example, for kuntilanak, atleast 5 to 10 types of it. one of the scariest is queen of kuntilanak. The most evil & scariest of kuntilanak species.

Seems quite similar to the ghost imagery used in a lot of Thai cultural stories. I enjoy hearing about these things.
