The joy of every human being is to be gainfully employed doing something that could prosper them. However, we most time focus our employment and unemployment indices on the urban areas data gathered to draw inference between the value of employed and unemployed. Employment is just an aspect of the whole circle of economic indices. There are others like unemployment and underemployment. All of this are also very important aspect of the whole.

The unemployment rate is the fastest growing indices in all society because it easily reflect the immediate happenings in the society and economy. Unemployment starts when people started losing their jobs owing to lay-off from their employees due to economic down turn, unfavorable government policies, high cost of production, cheaper substitute to their products, effect of importation, unavailability of raw materials for production, employee incompetence, new technology and so on.

All of these indices causes unemployment in the urban areas while the factors responsible for unemployment in the rural area are quite different. The rural areas are mostly populated by farmers. These set of people produce and supply the needed raw materials needed for further processing. Unemployment however can happen over there as a result of pest invasion, erosion, drought and the likes. When these things happen, we can then see people been underemployed. Meaning people who could do so much more doing little and producing little.
