'Sabong' you say?

And it's Fri-Yay! Friday I mean :)

So how are you today? I do hope everything is going well and that you're having a blast in whatever you do.

It's an overcast and blustery morning here in our side of town and has gotten a lot colder too. It's no surprise since the ber months are generally like that and it usually lasts until February of the following year. But this is one thing that I seem to have not gotten used to being more of a summer person so it's often a struggle for me during these cold seasons.

And the truth is at this time of day, I'm still in bed wrapped in blankets keeping myself warm, lol! That's one of the perks of getting younger older I guess, hehe! Thankfully, we are no longer tied to a 9-5 kind of life so we can at least give in to little pleasures such as this.

Anyhow, I'm sharing some really interesting paintings which the husband found and photographed in the walls of the waiting hall of an office which he visited the previous week.

The first photo (painting) was a work by a self-taught 36 year-old Kapampangan contemporary artist, Eric Perreras. His painting depicts a typical Filipino young family where the husband left for overseas for some greener pastures. Thanks to technology for making it easy for them to connect and communicate at least virtually.

The second and third artworks are by another artist whose signature I couldn't dissect so I was not able find any further information. But anyway, his paintings are rendered boldly and brightly. They also portray some reality in the country. The group of women in his canvas are probably Filipino women at the airport waiting for their time to board the plane, hehe!

And the third painting shows men along with their roosters. Cockfighting or what is locally termed as "Sabong" is a traditional and customary form of entertainment or recreation among Filipino men. It's a way to show "pakikisama" or comradeship amongst the local people.

History puts it that this past time dates back to pre-colonial times so you can imagine it is already ingrained in the country's culture. So embedded that Sabong has already become a billion dollar industry these recent times. There's even an event called World Slasher Cup or the "Olympics of Cockfighting" where sabong aficionados pay entrance fees to watch and you would have guessed, bet on their favorites too.

Hmmm... I've taken quite long to introduce these 3 beautiful pieces so gotta park here now :)

Thank you all and cheers to a good, sweet life!

I love how the second artist portrays emotions with the eyes and nose.

And the first one look so real

Dear @ifarmgirl!
An East Asian man like me is seeing Filipino art for the first time!🙂
Seeing pictures of Filipino women going abroad to find jobs makes me a little sad!😯

The Filipinos I met at Hive always talked about the beautiful nature and tourist destinations of the Philippines.
However, I remember the hard lives of Filipino workers living in the world I live in!
So, The expressions of the Filipino women in the painting look bright, but I feel a bit sad!

Thank you for introducing me to the wonderful art of the Philippines!

Glad you first saw them here :)

And yes, it's quite sad to see families getting apart for quite a long while because one or the other had to go places to find better opportunities. And while some are fortunate in terms of employment, others not so, especially those on households because they are prone to ill treatment by their employers. I do hope people will be more compassionate and treat others a lot better.

Thank you lots for sharing your sentiment and feelings on what you observe. And it's a pleasure to be sharing these works of art in my country.

It's true and the same here, sis, lol :) Paintings are more than just a pretty face. They can tell a story, evoke emotion, and capture a moment in time. These paintings are not only aesthetically pleasing, but they also have amazing stories behind them. :) Love them all !LADY

We are still in our prime years, lol!

And very true what you said about paintings. Our interpretations might differ from that of the artists but they do have some stories :)

Second slide is actually my pick .I can relate to waiting for a flight,or vehicle for travel.
It's always mixed feelings. Some are eager to leave, some are excited, others are in a haste and can't wait for the journey to kick-start while others are taking a nap while waiting.

Funny as it is, they are all the fun of travelling.
Nice one here😊😊

Though I adore each one of the paintings, the second slide is my favourite. While the others wait patiently and eagerly for their turn to fly, one of them is already fast asleep😄😄

In my opinion,The third painting looks like the yuletide season ,so everyone carried their roosters😄😄

Thank you for sharing this amazing post, continue to spread love
