Do not break the chain- Seinfeld Consistency Strategy

Jerry Seinfeld Strategy

Many people struggle with consistency. I have written about some concept of how we could improve our productivity. Eisenhower box was a great one, and I explained how to use it in our daily, weekly, monthly and yearly goals.

I was reading through a publication about Seinfeld, and I found this strategy he used to be successful. Jerry Seinfeld is one of the successful comedians. He has written many comedies, movies, and shows. According to Forbes, Jerry Seinfeld made his massive earning of $267 million in the year 1998 and still making many more millions yearly. All these and his consistency in work made him one of the most successful comedians of all time.

These figures ($) are the results, but his time, work, effort and some level of consistency counts. I have not been following him all through, but I read an interesting concept about his strategy of consistency.

Brad Isaac, a software developer and a comedian was hanging out in a club and it was a place where Jerry Seinfeld was performing and Brad got the chance to speak to Seinfeld in the backstage and he asked him if he has any tip for young growing comedian. According to lifehacker…

He told me to get a big wall calendar that has a whole year on one page and hang it on a prominent wall. The next step was to get a big red magic marker.

He said for each day that I do my task of writing, I get to put a big red X over that day. “After a few days you’ll have a chain. Just keep at it and the chain will grow longer every day. You’ll like seeing that chain, especially when you get a few weeks under your belt. Your only job next is to not break the chain.”

“Don’t break the chain,” he said again for emphasis.
I gave a deep thought of this and I see a very smart way to be better. And through his words, he did not mention the outcome of the work.

So, it doesn’t matter about the quality of work here. It is not about if you have great motivation or inspiration to work. What matters is to keep the chain long? So, if Seinfeld can use that for success, anyone with a serious mind can.

Many people suffer from lack of consistency, and they do not know. My sister watches the TV and sees many sexy looking ladies. She loves to be like them. But If she starts an exercise and eats less fatty foods for 7 days, the 8th day will make a negative change for her.

Consistency cost $0.00001

Many people have made a success in different aspects of life. Business gurus, Actors, and others. They are people who are so consistent in the things they do, and they never struggle much with motivation. They created a mandatory way to get their work done no matter the situation. Pablo Picasso had over 26,075 artworks to his name, and that means he produces one artwork every day of his life.

The Jerry Seinfeld consistency ideas do not focus on the result but on the process of doing something and making everyday count. So, it does not matter if you are motivated to work, or you are doing exceptional work, but to ensure you “do not break the chain”. Who likes to get a calendar and make everyday count with this strategy?

Pick an achievable work.

Okay, if you will work with this concept, you must work with a reasonable task that will have a growth effect in your life, but also achievable. You should not pick a task that will get you overwhelmed after 10days. There is more value in constant daily growth than an enormous growth of 3 days and a long break of weeks. So, choose a task that will give you an excellent result but easy to do and maintain.

Get a big calendar, pick your task and never break the chain.

Have a great week!

Consistency is the key... In every part of the life, and also here on the Hive blockchain...

I remember that @robwillman was also talking about the same stuff and started his own #dontbreakthechain challenge, where he was doing the "X over a day" strategy and it worked very well for him...

TBH, I don't do literally that, but I try to show up very day and engage with others... and it works for me...

Great post! I like your writing style and I like to read your stuff!
