Misplaced Priorities, the killer of purpose.

Priority comes from the name prior which means “to come before”. So, priority means to give attention to one duty above the other in order of relevance or precedence.

Misplaced priority is the act of giving more attention to something that requires less attention neglecting the most important ones. It is also the inability of one to arrange their duties in order of supremacy.

It is easy to misplace priorities, especially when faced with certain distractions. While the internet is the source of information, knowledge and wealth, it also remains the primary source of distraction. And getting access to the internet only demands a mobile phone and an active data; this on its own is very distracting and, unfortunately, very addictive.

Many people find it difficult to set their priorities right. Imagine a person who wakes up in the morning and the first thing he or she does is to turn on the television or surf the internet for things to feed their eyes on or picking the wrong work at the right time. There are multiple ways we can set our priorities on the wrong. So, to avoid failures, it is important to set our priorities on the right.

There are several ways in which one can set their priorities right, but we would consider the key ones:

  • List out things that are of utmost importance to you.

  • Create a plan on how to tackle them one after the other.

  • Divide specific timings to each activity and ensure to stick to these allocated times.

  • Determine how you want your life to look like.

  • Talk to people whom you look up to as a mentor and learn tips on how to achieve your preset goals.

  • Plan out all your daily activities; at the end of each day, check yourself and find out if you achieved those plans.

  • Avoid all forms of distractions, no matter how tempting they may seem. You can do this by reminding yourself on a regular, on how important it is to achieve your goals.

Misplaced priorities have a dangerous and negative effect on us. When one cannot set their priorities right, they spend more time on things that do not matter and neglect the relevant ones. They cannot boast of any tangible achievement, and they become a liability to themselves and they become a couch warmer.

One who has a set goal and has all priorities set right is always an achiever. Achievers are people that set goals and achieve them. An achiever is the one who makes relentless efforts and achieve.

If you want to become an achiever, you need to learn to set your priorities right, set your mind straight, fix your mind on achieving your goals. Plan out all that you wish to achieve daily, take your mind off every other thing, and work towards achieving your goals!

Don’t just do, do it right!
