Crazy proposal number 4 - Cross Community Delegation Exchange Program

Ok so I'm not sure where I read it or if its true but someone once told me a stat on people staying for over a year with an insurance company. If they have 1 policy only 30% of people will stay, 2 policies 50% and 3 policies a wopping 90% of people will stay for over a year. Why? Well one of the reasons is you are heavily invested, even if one product is not hitting the mark the other two will keep you (yes also the effort to switch but I'm using this to make a point !).

So at HIVE we should be trying to get people invested in multiple communities to keep engagement up and retain as many people as possible, assuming we want to grow. The problem as I can see it, 2 months in so take it with a grain of salt, is that tribes and communities are heavily siloed. This is for a good reason, we want people to be able to follow a passion subject and enjoy it with others. However personally I have found the barrier to entry can be pretty high, both because curating require alot of community tokens and because I don't always know the rules and etiquette of community.

So on to the proposal, we do an exchange program!

  1. We swap equal delegations with someone from a different tribe, how we decided equal I will leave to smarter people but maybe base it on either HIVE value or curation rewards
  2. Just like a student exchange program for a month, we don't just drop people into a new community! We would expect a nice introduction post from the community leads
  3. The people swapping delegation are to act as guides on their own community, informing them on what they could post about, formatting, the do and do not ect...

The hope is after a month we swap back, but with a greater understanding of the community, some tribe tokens and a wider circle of friends!

Maybe the @proofofbrain fund could double the delegation from the POB end to make it more attractive?

Interesting idea.

One challenge I see is how to equate delegation stakes. When @proofofbrainio did this early on with POB, he swapped delegations of POB with HIVE 1:1. At the time, HIVE was like $0.30 and POB was less than $0.01. However, POB was in its early stages, so that seemed like a reasonable deal to me and I 'swapped' all the HIVE I had available at the time (which was about 1,000), which we swapped for about a month. Then, @proofofbrainio ran a contest to see who had the best ideas for expanding the POB tribe, and I won another 1,000 POB delegation for a month.

Most tokens won't necessarily swap equally on a 1:1 basis, though.

I would probably do it by $USD influence of the staked amount.

For example, 1,000 POB currently increases your POB vote by about 2.5 POB (I think), which is about $1.40 or so.

By contrast, 1,000 HIVE increases your HIVE vote by only about $0.05, I think. So a fair trade now might be 20,000 HIVE for 1,000 POB (if I am doing my math correctly, here).

Just some food for thought.

I agree and that'd why I tip toed around it a bit. My thinking was similar to yours, taking all the mechanics out if I vote ten time in one tribe and ten time in a diffrent tribe, on average what are my curation rewards and what are they worth in HIVE or USD. You then ratio up so they equate. Again not an expert on mechanics but see that being fair. Also you want enough that you have a decent starting take when you finish to keep the idea going.

Very good suggestion. Swapping equal delegations is going to be tricky like you mentioned. $1,000 stake in a large tribe doesn't go as far as $1,000 in a small one.

Maybe it would be easier to just set aside a small nominal sum, say $100 equivalent, and let the value come from the increased visibility and interaction with the new community?

Personally do like the idea - Leo is doing sth like this with Hive, the problem is only "what is equal"?
