An exotic dilemma started when I killed a bunny in World of Warcraft
Neutral critters are people too
A long, long time ago, in a different universe, I was walking around Azeroth along with my online girlfriend at the time, when I told her I'd kill the bunny we were passing by. She told me not to do it. I thought it was fine, because it was just a digital character. You know, not real. To my surprise, I felt TERRIBLE. Absolutely terrible. I was speechless. My girlfriend must have thought I'm an asshole. That's how I felt. Like a prick.
But it's still just code in a game. That won't change, no matter what moral dilemma we might consider. It's just code, so how can it affect me, her, and so many others in such an emotional way? Back then, I thought it would be simple. We just have to not kill the bunny if it bothers us, right? Wrong. Over time, as a traditional gamer, I often across RPGs and whatnot where I had to kill a neutral animal NPC to progress through the main storyline. So not killing wasn't even an option if we wanted to progress, instead of uninstalling the game.
We are back at square one. To kill or not to kill? That is the question. You will be surprised to hear I came up with a two-fold loophole to this problem. First, I told my dearest friend whom I share my home with that when she sees me killing something, I'm not really killing it, because it will come back after a while. It will respawn. So it doesn't really ever die, because it's always ressurecting, like an immortal. Either that, or its species are one collective being that isn't ever hurt, because it quickly regenerates whatever part of it is cut off. In both interpretations, I'm not killing it, even when programming logic is considered.
Yesterday, this friend told me she had a nightmare. She said our cat, Ziggy, was swallowed whole by a tiny creature, maybe kind of like Kirby? In her nightmare, she started crying. I was there, too, but I wasn't worried. Apparently, I told her in that dream how our cat will be back in a little bit, so there's nothing to be worried about, nothing bad happened. Even so, she woke up, panicking. Ziggy was right in front of her, licking his fur while posing in one of those incomprehensibly cute and fluffy stances only cats can perform. Relief washed over her.

.This is a strange story. You bring the real question though... Is killing a game character bad? It's just a code so I'd say "No." But it's more complicated than that...
SAO Alicization asks the same question, (instead of rabbits: AI human clones,) and my answer is closer to: "Don't make that in the first place!" than "It isn't okay to delete them!"

100% agree with Alicization's point, although I only watched a bit over half of it. I stopped watching it after they started battling with the "dark side". I'll go back to it. Have you finished watching it? Is it good all the way thorough?
Yeah, finished it and while there are some bad parts, the ending was very interesting to me. (Some people said they didn't like it though.) I wonder what they'll do with what happened at the end in the next arc.

so your online gf didn't like that you killed an online bunny? what happens if you kill your virtual gf :P
Killing my ex-gf's character? There would be no problem to anyone, of course. This dilemma involves non-humans only. Humans are OK to kill off. Anyone who doesn't want to see bad things happening to, say, dogs in a movie will probably agree it is okay if bad things happen to a human, specially in a horror movie.
Ah I see! The thought that human life even in virtual reality is worth so little is also scary
Even in virtual reality game, humans and human-like creatures are always the ones being cruel, manipulative assholes. If a rabbit were as intelligent as a human, would they consider ants inferior to them? Maybe. But we know, for sure, most humans would.

Now a lot of people use the phrase "live and let's live" and I like practising this one with killing animal
I hate killing even a cockroach, I usually feel I won't be happy if someone keeps crushing me everytime they set their eyes on me or my friends or family 😂😂
But have you seen the phrase "kill or be killed" ? Forget it. I am the "crush your enemy completely" kind of person
Why? That is because, if I don't kill him, he will kill me...... Hehehe
Wait! Don't be scare. I only practise it in this context 👇👇
"Seduce or be seduced" 🥺
I prefer to seduce than to be seduced 😂😂
What? Don't look at me like that 😅😅
100%
sexy. wink wink
Hahaha...... Thanks
