Just How Lucky Can You Get?

How many times do we hear people referring to others as "lucky".

We hear things such as "he's got all the luck in the world", or "it just seems like everything he touches turn into gold".

This is normally referring to successful people, whether it's on the sports field, in business, in the music industry...it can be in any industry...

Yet, when we look at the people who are actually making these comments - it is often just the opposite.

They are always the "unlucky" ones. Nothing really works out well for them. When they need to start a new project, you'll often hear "with my luck, this is going to end up in a disaster"... and then they haven't even started working yet.

With that kind of thinking and mentality, you have failed before you have even started...

In some cases, sadly, it can just be a case of laziness. It's just too much work to put in all the effort to get the job done.

But often, we find that it can also be someone who is not lazy at all. They can be hard workers. But they are so focused on the obstacles, that they become part of the problem instead of being part of the solution.

In other cases, it can be a case of plain ignorance...a lack of knowledge or just being unprepared....which is often also a consequence of a lack of patience.

It's about chasing shiny objects and wanting instant results.

Laying the foundation, gaining experience while increasing knowledge in these cases is just non-existent.

I recently met a guy, who was introduced to me as being a trader. It was a small little social gathering and it just so happened that it was actually at this guy's house.

I was told that he was trading in cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin. Obviously, I was interested immediately and started asking questions.

It didn't take too long before I started getting uneasy with the way this guy was trading.

I started getting the idea that there was a total lack of money management. It came out that he had just recently lost a small fortune in one single position. In dollar value, it was close to about $18000.00.

Apparently, it was just one "silly quick, but massive dip" in the price of Bitcoin that took him out. Shortly after he lost his money, the price continued to go up again. He was just "unlucky" (his words). When I asked whether he had a stop-loss in place, he told me he didn't believe in things like stop-losses.

That whole evening, he was running in and out of his study to "check his positions".

A couple of days later, I happened to bump into the guy again by coincidence, and I asked how it was going with his trading...

His account got wiped out and he lost all his money. Then I heard how the banks are betting against you and it's the platform fees and all the big institutions that are watching you how you trade and then they trade against you, and, and, and...

I didn't argue...just steered the conversation in a different direction by starting to talk about something else.

Those Lucky People

On the contrary, take a closer look at those "lucky people" who have all the luck in the world, and you discover something completely different.

On the surface, these people seem to be so composed...so calm and relaxed. They just seem to be in control of their environment.

Yet, when you start getting a glimpse of their schedule, you realize how busy these people really are. You discover how hard they are working.

Yes, some of them are suffering from stress-related issues, but others really are calm and collected and seem to be in control of everything.

What is worth noticing is that especially the ones who are normally really calm and collected, are normally the ones who are doing something they are passionate about. They enjoy what they are doing and they are actually having fun doing it.

Yet, for you and me, just to look at their schedule becomes a frightening experience...lol.

And do you know what? Even these people have fallen many times. They had many failures along the way. But they got up and started over.

So what exactly is the difference? What gave them the courage to get up again? How did they know that they might be "lucky" next time?

I think Thomas Jefferson summed it up nicely when he said:

I am a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it. ~ Thomas Jefferson

Yes, the harder you work, the luckier you get. Isn't that strange?

Often, for those people who really aren't scared of working hard, but always believe that nothing works out good for them...?

For those people, I really believe it is often a matter of perseverance. If they can just learn to stick it out a bit longer, be more patient and just persevere a little longer, they will also start finding "luck".

And obviously, prepare ahead of time. Educate yourself about what it is you want to do.

Don't attempt to jump to the top-story from road level. Start at the bottom and work your way up. Start small and then grow by taking one step at a time.

Those at the top of the mountain didn't fall there. ~ Unknown

Yes, believe it or not...but those at the top of the mountain had to climb to get there...one step at a time.

I hope this was helpful to you.

Thank you for reading my post and may you have all the "luck" you need (by working hard...lol) to achieve all your goals.

That's why I believe it's so important to do what you love doing or doing what you love...from whichever way you prefer to look at it...but if you enjoy it, you won't quit!

I'm so glad to hear about a quality day with your daughter and well done on reaching 10K steps for the day. Wow...you've been busy. Now I just hope you get some quality sleep as well so that you can get some good REST!

See you later and I'll be on the lookout for you on discord;)

I learned through my life that I was master of my own destiny, that blaming others didn't get me anywhere. Since I have this mindset, I fee quite lucky with my life in general. On the days I feel it less, well then it's up to me to change something :-)

I learned through my life that I was master of my own destiny, that blaming others didn't get me anywhere.

That is great advice! The sooner we can realize that we are responsible for our own happiness, the better.

Thank you for sharing that peace of wisdom with us! I do appreciate it!

Greeting,
I am all onboard concerning your comment about the lucky people are doing something they are passionate about. I've been asking my kiddos forever and a day, "What are some things you love to do and are passionate about? Okay great, lets try and find out how you can make a living from those passions. Chances are, you probably are not going to find a bag of money laying out on the side of the road...:)
This is the post I will be submitting to @dreemport for curation.

I am so glad to read about your approach with your kiddos...for two reasons.

  • Firstly by encouraging them to find something they love and are passionate about. So often we see how parents try to force their children in a direction that they as parents want to see their children go, with no consideration of what the children's interests are...
  • Secondly, by encouraging them to find something they are passionate about and doing something they love doing, they will be more committed and dedicated to what they do and it will be spontaneous.

That, I believe will present them with either the opportunity to work for themselves or "job security" if employed by someone else due to their passion and commitment. Due to that natural commitment, people will want to either do business with them or employ them versus just going after "job security" whether they like it or not.

In my opinion, "job security" is non-existent today, especially if you don't have a passion for what you are doing.

Thank you so much for your input, for supporting my work, and for submitting my post to @dreemport. I really do appreciate it!
