Yesterday I posted an article about Street The Artery Of Economy. In this post I would like to share some temporary business opportunities in my country Indonesia.

Moslem Majority

The majority of citizens are Moslems. Indonesian Islamic followers are different from most middle east and Arabic Moslem countries. Indonesian cultures have strong influence in Islamic teaching practice so Islamic teaching in my country is moderate. Some issues about terrorism are not the root of Islamic teachings in schools, mosques and pesantren. Pesantren is a traditional boarding school for Islamic studies. The roles of pesantrens are very strong in Islamic practice in my country. Pesantrens have long history of Islamic teaching. Pesantrens curriculum assimilated between tradition and Islamic principles. That is why number of physical conflicts among religions are few. Few years ago there was a big conflict between Moslems and Christians in Ambon Maluku. In fact, the root of conflicts was not from the traditional teaching in both religion in Maluku. The conflict was triggered by politicians who gained their personal goals. After the ethnic leaders between Moslems and Christians sat together, Ambon and Maluku now live in peace between those two followers of the religions.

Tradition in fasting month

This is a popular fasting custom during the month of Ramadan. It is called Ngabuburit. Ngabuburit are some activities in the evening before fasting break. These are some activities to wait for the fasting break. Some people like to drive, ride or walk out on the street. This tradition causes human movement on the street. The streets become crowded. Sometimes, the activities cause traffic jams. In my previous article I stated "traffic jams are money".
When there are more people on the street, there will be street sellers that sell their products in their stalls.

Temporary businesses in Ramadhan

Street is the artery of economy is here. In Ramadhan, consumption increases. The tradition of ngabuburit also triggers people to spend more money. Some food sellers display their products on the side of streets. In Ramadhan, that is the time for temporary businesses to make huge profit.

What temporary businesses in Ramadhan

In Ramadhan there are many food sellers that offer some traditional foods and drinks. Most people like to eat sweet food and drink. One of my favourite traditional drinks is Dawet Banjar Negara. Dawet Banjar is a traditional drink made from tapioca starch (tepung sagu). The starch is made into long gels. The gels are mixed with liquid with coconut milk and coconut sugar (brown sugar). The taste is very sweet.

Most Dawet Banjar sellers are from Banjar Negara. They are urban in big cities like Jakarta. Banjar Negara is a small town in Central Java Province. Dawet Banjar sellers make good profit in Ramadhan. They can make around $10-$15 in a short time selling. They open the stall from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. For 30 days, they can make $300-$450. It is a big money for temporary business. On common days, not in Ramadhan, they earn about $5-$6 daily.

Another product that is in high demand is fried chicken. Fried chicken sellers sometimes receive orders in bulk. People order some food in bulk for giving. They share fasting break food in boxes with children in mosques or people on the street. Sharing food for a fasting break earns Allah's blessing, according to Islamic teaching.
