Disney and Paris on $4000 - Dreemport Challenge week 3

So the #dreemportchallenge this week is to imagine 4 days away with 3 other people to do anything you want to do and see anything you want to see, provided you can do it for under $4000! Well, that's a lotta dough right there...and it has to be gluten-free dough now 'cos we are rocking a gluten-free life at the moment hee hee.

So, a couple of years ago my hubby and I took our boys on a surprise trip to Disneyland Paris in Marnee-La -Vallee just outside of Paris. It was amazeballs! We had a wonderful time as a family and the kids loved staying on-site in the Toy story themed hotel and meeting the different characters each day in the lobby. We promised them we would go again at some point so this is an imagining of how we'd do it the second time around. Covid has prevented us from living how we want to live but as soon as things improve, I am going to make this imagined getaway a reality.

So our 4-day trip lands us at Disneyland Paris.

We booked into our hotel in June and the weather was glorious: Les Villages Nature Paris at a cost of £1312.00 (that's $1754) for 3 nights and 4 days including 2 days park tickets and 1 day in the Hotel Waterpark.

It was a VIP apartment with 3 rooms and two bathrooms so we didn't have to fight with the kids for the shower and I may have sneaked in a couple of nice leisurely candlelit baths with a good reading session lol.

Meals at Disney are pricey! I kid you not! The half-board package for the 4 of us costs £504 ($674). We decided that we would eat one of our meals in the Disney Park each day at a further cost of $100 a day x 3 = $300. So accommodation, park tickets, and food are covered for $2728.

We spent two wonderful days split across the two parks: Disneyland and Disney Studio World. Our boys don't fancy the big rollercoasters much although our youngest, Jack loves the Tower of Terror which drops you in a ghostly horror lift from way up high! I just can't do it! That was hubby's penance lol. Thank goodness they love the rides like Star Wars 4d and Toy Story Blasters, Space Mountain, and meeting all the characters. I lost count of how many we queued up to see and get autographs and pictures of while we were there. We were also treated to a wonderful rendition of the Lion King show included in the park tickets. We enjoyed the daily parades and the wonderful musical interlude in the evening when the fairytale castle is lit up with fireworks and displays photos and video footage from the many wonderful Disney films. It is quite moving and emotional.

The highlight was meeting Mickey Mouse in our hotel one morning which the kids thoroughly enjoyed...and I might add, this Mom kinda enjoyed the magical moment too.

Before we left the park on day two we took the kids to the Disney store to buy some souvenirs and let them spend $100 each on sweatshirts and toys, as did I (hubby didn't want anything...bah humbug lol) taking our spend up to $3028. We also paid for the exorbitant snacks in the park each day at a cost of about $50 per day x 3 to cover drinks, ice creams, and mickey mouse shaped cookies.

Having spent $3178 between Disney and the Hotel we then spent the 3rd day of our stay in the Hotel Waterpark of swimming pools and slides and fountains. We had an incredible time cooling off and chilling after 2 long days in the sun walking 28000 steps per day each!

We wanted to take the boys to Paris on our last day in France and so we caught the train ($130 for 4 all-day travel passes including travel into Paris) to the Artist's quarter and walked up to the Sacre Coeur Church which is just breathtakingly beautiful. After that, we caught the trains and spent the day sightseeing from the Louvre Museum ($69) and seeing Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo amongst other famous artworks. We also went up the Eiffel tower ($192) for a spectacular 360-degree view of Paris.

We walked down the Champs Elysee and stopped to pay our respects at the tomb of the unknown soldier at the Arc de Triomphe and went across to Ile de la Cite and marveled at the Gothic architecture of Notre Dame Cathedral.

Having spent $3569, we had enough left for our 4th days' food and drinks bills and some French wine to take back with us when we left for home.

I have always loved traveling to Paris, the city of lights and the city of romance. It was the city that my husband and I got engaged in and I am so pleased that we got to take our two children there for a fun visit interspersed with some culture, history, and architectural delights.

Even here, the food at the theme parks are crazy and you are not allowed to bring your own food in, so you have no choice

The price for hotel and park for 4 sounds reasonable ...

I am not great with these thrill rides either, the last time I was in a rollercoaster, and that too a kid's one because my girl wanted to try it and I didn't want to transfer my fears on to her, so I had to go when she asked mt to and I left my heart at the top of the drop.

You are way braver than I am. I would have been physically ill I think. I honestly cannot stand the feeling of leaving my stomach in my throat 😂🤢The parks are seriously expensive. I wouldn't usually spend all that money on Food plans etc but I had to for Dreems lol.

Haaaa! The fight for bathrooms!!! I bet of there are four bathrooms for 4 people, there would still be fight over who would go to which bathroom....! Lol. By the way candlelit bath is a good idea.

I never knew that Disney is a city 🙈. I just thought of it as a production house DISNEY LAND. And meeting the cartoon characters would be the real fun for the kids

I wish you have a visit to the place where you got engaged with your partner.

Blessed day ❤

The price for food is high, just wondering if that's how expensive feeding is over there. A great time with family sightseeing the park and beautiful gardens. No doubt everyone enjoyed the trip to Paris.

Thank you for visiting my post @dwixer. Oh it's horrendously expensive. A complete rip-off! The food plan prices I took off their website so they are up to date and I remember that when we queued for Planet Hollywood a few years back, just a burger and chips for 1 was going to set us back about $15! and that did not include a drink or dessert. As you can imagine, the kids had a fair few McD's lol as those were far more sensibly priced although still cost double in the Park what they do at our local down the road in England. And if you want to include a meet and greet with your meal at Disney it can run into the hundreds for a family of 4 for one meal!

Wow, do you know why their meal and drinks is that expensive?, Definitely the low class can't visit such an hotel

It's Disney. It's a brand. Like all brands they can charge over the top. IRL when we visited we did not do the food plan or eat out at ALL the fancy restaurants. We did a balance of McD's lol and Disney themed eateries and stuck to one Disney themed snack a day and took our own general snacks mostsly.

What a great way to spend $4000 in 4 days ❤️ Memories are priceless 🙌

Absolutely! We didn't buy the food plan when we went last time and we took our own snacks into the park and just treated the kids to one Disney themed snack a day at those prices. We also made our own breakfasts of croissants fruit cereal juice etc in the hotel room before heading out each day and took packed lunches with us. We only ate out one meal per day at a themed restaurant. But you know...the remit from Dreems is $4k and if needs? MUST! ha ha ha The boys are now also older and would be able to appreciate the delights of Paris as much as we do so that seemed like the right thing to do... If I could have squeezed in another trip to Versaille, I would have! Such an incredible palace, and such history!

I don’t like any extreme rides well anything other than gentle rides but enjoyed watching the kids do them

You're right. The food prices are a total rip off but the experience is magical. After 5 days at Disneyland Paris a few years back, I wanted to live there myself!

This is just so full of memories, fun memories to last a lifetime 😂 with just $4000... Really nice trip you had with your family.

I wish I could visit Paris once, it would be a dream come true for me. That place is amazing from all I've read about it and from your trip too.

Nicely written, I love it 🥰
Didn't know you're a female until now 🙈😂

Thank you @merit.ahama. Paris is wonderful, you'd love it! If you ever get this side of the Equator, we could go together! oh, you are so funny... I'm definitely a woman ha ha. I have made the wrong assumption a few times myself with people in Hive lol so it's quite ok. I am learning to take a look at people's intro posts when it's not patently obvious from their profile whether they are women or men. But you do make me take a second look at my profile pics now...is it the beanie on my head that confuses the issue lols? I know I'm a bit of a tomboy when I get into nature lols but do I really look like a boy😂👀🤣 I need to pay more attention to myself, clearly hee hee

😂 No, I just don't know how I thought you to be a boy but it's cool to know you're a lady... It's nice knowing you well now.

By the way, are you really a bit of a tomboy? 🙄😂

ha ha ...sometimes...I grew up next door to boys all my life so have always played backyard cricket and football etc, climbed trees, and loved the outdoors. Little time for dresses and skirts until I was older lol. Now I have 2 young boys of my own so spend a lot of time with them messing around in either shorts or jeans or sportswear. I do have my moments of enjoying being girly though, dressing up, doing my makeup and putting on my jewellery and heels lol to hang out with my girlfriends on nights out. How about you my friend?

Thanks Jaxson. My youngest asked if we could move there afterward and live at Disney forever as "it's the most fun we've ever had together as a family mommy", bless him...

That would be a dream location for sure, I don't know any kid that would not want to live there perminently Lols.

Thats the fantasy these places create and they do it quite well, its nice for them to have that little touch of magic.

I can remember those fellings as a kid myself, nothing beats those memories of being somewhere magical with your family.

Great memories to have.
