Dr. Antony Davies gave a 45-minute presentation to the Free Enterprise Society at Oklahoma State University on April 12, 2021, followed by a 15-minute Q&A session. You can find details about the presentation and a link to the full recording of the presentation and Q&A here or you can go here for the direct link to the full presentation.

In this 4-minute clip, Dr. Davies gives an impassioned answer to a student's question about increasing the minimum wage to $15 per hour, explaining why a $15 minimum wage will hurt the very people it is supposed to help.

I don't live in the US, but I found this explanation interesting. Dr. Davies has some interesting points.

I think that skilled workers can find jobs easier than someone with low education and/or low skill.

Thank you for sharing, greetings from Mexico.

Yes, I found his explanation very straightforward. That is why I clipped it out and am calling attention to it.

I watched the whole thing and found him to be very informative speaker, I like his energy and passion.

The best part I found was the solution to end all poverty by giving everybody a share of the fund.

The part that I didn’t find that great was his answer about gun control and leveling the odds between male and female.

Thanks for the feedback.

Yes, the $23 trillion the U.S. gov't has spent on the "War on Poverty" since 1964 has been a failure of epic proportions.

Funny thing. We hosted a discussion session with students over lunch today. Afterwards, I was telling Dr. Davies about Hive. Turns out, he was active for a while in the early days of Steem (from August 2016): https://steemit.com/@antonydavies

Based on our discussion this afternoon, sounds like he's interested in coming back on board.

"Based on our discussion this afternoon, sounds like he's interested in coming back on board."

Excellent news! We can't have too many "right minded" people working steadily at "influencing," when and where they are able ...

P.S. As a retired engineer, with something of an eye for detail, I liked seeing the reference to this presentation being made at a "Free Enterprise Society" meeting, as I have personally written about what I believe are vital differences between this and the much more common references to capitalism ...

Yes, I am careful to define "capitalism" when I use the term.

With my students, I have even shied away from using the term "free markets" because it is typically not clearly defined or understood. Instead, I use the term "competitive markets". Whenever there is competition in a given market, societal benefits are sure to follow. (Also, FWIW, whenever there is a lack of competition, most times government itself has a hand in stifling whatever competition there would otherwise be).

As one of your countrymen @trostparadox, I found this gentleman's 4-minute response to one of the student's (? I assume ...) questions in the audience to be very effective.

"... will hurt the very people it is supposed to help."

Exactly. Now, the only question that I always reflect on is do the people advocating for this actually believe (vs. know, which they don't ...) it is going to be beneficial? We have plenty of evidence the "masses" probably do, as they are deceived ...

How about the "influencers" that are sitting comfortably "behind the curtain?" In my personal opinion, they know exactly what they are doing. And it is not for their stated purpose, but rather something else, which they do not publicly discuss.

And what is that? Lots has and can be written in response ...

Thanks for posting this. All the best to you and yours for a better tomorrow! 🙂👍

P.S. Came to find your latest post, after you engaged with one of my recent comments. In the short time I have available, glanced through your profile. Now following ... Thought you might wish to know that and trusting, as a result, you will find it as a small "word of encouragement," as we begin a new day.

Yup, politicians constantly want to hurt the very people they are claiming to help, so that they can continue to have victims to victimize.

Good post, totally agree on this. 15 dollar an hour just makes employers raise prices on all goods, which then hurts the poorest people.
