Getting Organized and Changing Habits

avatar

After spending a lot of time in lockdown, I had plenty of time to do whatever I wanted. Now that my offline business will reopen again, the time pressure will be back and it's time to get rid of the inefficient habits that I have taken during this period. When you have nowhere to go and no work to do, you tend to form new habits that are not necessary efficient ones.

The positive side of the lockdown

A part from all the negative aspects linked to the corona crisis, I can't deny that I enjoyed to have so much free time. I could spend as much time in front of my computer without having bad conscience. There was not much else to do...

Getting rid of inefficient habits

Now that I will be able to get back to work, I will need to get rid of the all the inefficient habits that I have acquired during the last 2.5 months. This will be quite difficult because habits can't be changed over night.

Why is it so difficult to change habits?

The mechanisme of creating habits is a great achievement of humans. When we do the same stuff over and over again, our brain creates connections that allows it to delegate this task to our subconscious mind. This mechanisme frees the capacities of the conscious mind and we can do the task on autopilote.

When you drive your car, you can very well make a great distance without realising what your arms and feet have been doing on the journey. The driving was taken care of by your subconscious mind. Your conscious mind could do other stuff like talking to your passengers, listening to music or texting to your friends... (don't do the last one please)

Once a task is automated it is actually quite difficult to adapt or change it. This makes it so difficult for us to get rid of habits.

How to change habits

Changing habits is only possible if we consciously create new ones. By repeating a new pattern over and over again, we can change the automated program of our subconscious mind.

When I was doing a lot of sports, in order to improve my technique it was necessary to spend hours and hours repeating the same movement until the automatism could be changed.

I realised that to change habits, I have to organize myself. A good plan is to actually write down my new targets and objectives, to plan everything carefully and to impose these changes on myself until they are automated.

This is what I have to do now. If you watch the video, you will realise that I'm in dear need to become better organized...

This is probably already my last entry into the I am alive challenge created by @flaxz. I probably won't be able to continue posting every day but I will continue to post regularly on other topics. A big thanks for this amazing project!

Well, I won't lie to you... You have a lot to do with organizing things again... that video was far away to being organized... :P

Habits are a tough thing to change, but changing them with new ones could work... and efficiency is an important thing... Time is a limited resource and we have to use it efficiently if we want to get the maximum from it...

Thanks a lot for your comment my friend. My video slightly lacked organization ;-).

Yes time management is paramount. I think you are quite good at that with the amount of work you manage to get done every day!
