IAAC #65 | A father who self-proclaimed to be a fool!

Hi there! This is Hafiz, from Oman. This is going to be my 65th participation for the #iamalivechallenge initiative, run by @flaxz. Below, I am going to share a story of a father who visited me as a patient last night.

He was 49 years old Bangladesh worker. He visited me last night with complaints of chest pain for the last 16-18 days. He had pain in the other body parts as well. He wasn't distressed by the pain. His pattern of pain wasn't also that of a heart attack.

I examined his vitals and found his blood pressure quite high. His blood pressure was 190/110 mmHg (the perfect BP of an adult is 120/80 mmHg). That was very high blood pressure. When I informed him that he was having very high blood pressure, he admitted that a few years back, another doctor also found his BP high. That doctor prescribed him a BP-lowering medicine. He stopped taking the medicine on his own.

Considering his age (more than 40 years) and very high blood pressure, I advised him to do an ECG to rule out any cardiac causes for his chest pain. He agreed and the ECG tracing came back normal. His blood sugar was also normal.

When I was prescribing him medications according to his current illness and was talking about the importance of continuing BP-lowering medications, he told to me, "Sir! I am a fool! For the whole periods in Oman, I have sent all my income to my wife and 6 daughters. I haven't kept anything for me. And I haven't even gone to a doctor and taken any medicines for my illness."

He is not a fool! He is a selfless, responsible father and a husband who gives priority to others over him. His family members are not taking care of him in return.

End of story

I think, this YouTube video is a perfect choice for this post.

My dad is a liar!

I am fine and alive, Alhamdulillah. How are you?
