We Are Alive! May 31st, 2022 Empty Birdcage

Today is a sad day for our family, our little bugie bird Esther died today. She had not been doing well, the feathers on her bottom fell out and that area was swelling up. We thought at first it was an egg, but later realized it was some sort of tumor. We began looking around for vets to treat her, but they were all very expensive so we attempted to treat her ourselves with some vitamins, warmth and tender care.

We watched her get weaker and weaker. She would shake and breath hard. She would go from her favorite perch to her seeds and sometimes fall to the bottom of the cage and after she climbed back up, she was too tired to eat. It was a very sad situation.

Today as my wife was cleaning the cage, she took the bottom out to wash it, our little buggie Esther either fell or lost her balance from her perch and fell to the floor. We think she broke her neck. It was a painless way to go and ended her suffering.

Our children were deviated, especially my oldest who is ill right now with a stomach bug. She had been training Esther to sit on her finger and was making good progress.

We are all very sad today - but it's a hot day for swimming (for those who are well) and getting things done.

We buried our little bugie today with great sadness. Now we are looking for a different bugie - not a replacement, but a new bird to care for and train.

Thank you! We are well, it was sad for a time, but it's amazing how quickly we move on. The story is not over, we have a part two in this story that's a lot happier. Coming in a future post.

It is always sad when a family loses a pet. It is an unfortunate lesson for the children.

It is a good lesson for our children, they're handling it well, even if they are sad.

I'm sorry about Esther, it's rough to say goodbye to our animal friends.

Thanks, it is an odd thing to be speaking with a pet assuming they have tomorrow.

Sorry to hear about that. We lost our budgie as well recently. I haven't made a post about it yet... we now have a cat...
