Now that’s a Stubbs, stubborn as stump! - Blockchain Coffee “Yarn”

Before I start writing I will usually look up the definition or do a google search of the prompt....

We should all know what the standard use of yarn is as a noun but I have never heard of using yarn as a long rambling implausible story... or for that matter as a verb “yarning” in a way of telling that fabricated story 🤔 makes sense when thinking of how “spinning threads” relates to pulling unrelated ideas together into one narrative...

Anyways, #freewrite yarning I go!

Have you heard how we got our last name?

It all started a long time ago, our Great Papa was always eager to share his stories starting that way, with one stubborn man and a problem, cause you know stories of old always start with focus on the man.

Our ancestors were given a vast plot of land to develop into a farm, having run their luck out in the old world, had they known what was ahead we would be carrying a different family name, not that it would make much difference though.

Our family has always been like our name now, the reason our luck ran out, when faced with a challenge backing down is not an option, even if just being a stick in the mud.

Papa Doug had single handily cleared most of the land himself, pipe in one hand and axe in the other, yet could not finish it on his own, always complaining no one would help, a few stumps deeply rooted unwilling to budge, we were given the worst plot of land trees rooted into rocks.

Try as he might, a huge hole dug around each one, chopping and slashing the rocks kept dulling his blade, the only one he valued being hand made.

Nana came to save the day, Papa was always ignorant of her intelligence, she took The kerosene he had for the lantern and poured it all over the stump, Papa screeched and Nana ran, Nana came back with fire in her pan.

Now watching the fire consume the stump, Papa went back to chopping off lumps, Nana set fire to all of the stumps, Papa stopped swinging now sitting being a grump, telling a yarn of fully chopping out the stump.

Papa said “Woman, you are stubborn as a stump”, Nana walked away grinning ear to ear, when morning came and the land was cleared.

Little did Papa know he was talk of the town and the very thing he said was going around....

Now that’s a Stubbs, stubborn as stump!

Lol not sure if that quite works as long and rambling enough for “yarning” but it is definitely a “yarn” of its own 😉 almost a poetry “yarn” on top of that 😅

Absolutely.... I think it’s a Maritime East Coast thing ..... all the Fishermen spin a good yarn. Tall Tails ... of giant whales and such.

The phrase to spin a yarn "to tell a story" is first attested 1812, from a sailors' expression, on notion of telling stories while engaged in sedentary work such as yarn-twisting.

Yeah, there was a time I use to do that, but I later noticed it changes what I intend to write about.

For example, yarn is a Nigerian word to speak out something in reality of truth, and already set my mind of what to write.

Then I got a dictionary, and the meaning says the opposite.
