Agriculture and farming are some of the sectors which were left behind and until a few years back I was not able to see anything visible happening in this segment. Now it seems that things are started to improve and to make it easily accessible, so many start-up companies have started. There is a problem with the agriculture sector is that the literacy rate with farmers is quite low and they are not so tech-savvy so its taking time to make them understand how they can have better farming with the help of innovation of technology.

Agriculture is an industry that has always relied on nature, an immutable fact that has seen harvests and livestock wiped out regularly throughout history by heat waves and droughts, by floods and pestilence. But with breakthrough advances in science and technology, we have more tools than ever to mitigate the vagaries of nature.

Now when things are getting better so farmers get some benefits and its saving their time as well as money.

  • Technology has enabled the weather forecast and now they are able to know about the rain and can plan their accordingly.
  • With the internet marketplace, they are able to reach a broader audience that allows them to sell their products easily and that too at a better price. Checking market price is so easy now that they can do it just within few taps within the app or can also be some through missed call alerts etc.
  • Expert opinion can be taken online without going anywhere can it helps farmers to improve their farming as its a good way to resolve the issues if any and also to improve the productivity by following smart ways.
  • They can buy seeds, fertilizers, and equipment with ease through the online marketplace. They need not travel and things get delivered to their home.
  • IoT (internet of Things) has provided them the facility to keep a track of the farming in real-time and it also notifies if there is anything needed immediate attention.

There are thousands are a start-up that is helping the farmers to learn and understand new techniques to make their farming better and more profitable. Its creating better opportunities for farmers as well companies to get more business and grow. Its a new beginning and also has a long way to go but I expect that in new few years it will get more innovation in the place.

Its also high time when the agriculture sector needs to adopt technology at a fast pace so that farming after one decade will not be traditional anymore. It will be called smart farming and when everything getting smarter then this sector should also not be left alone.

thank you so much
