Today I would like to tell you about a beautiful place in Andalusia, which made me impressed so much. In fact, in the beginning, I was so delighted that I decided that I had to go back there, next time with my husband to show him this place. Then I became quite terrified - I'll tell you about it in a moment - which made me, however, slightly afraid to go back there again... ;)

Caminito Del Rey

Caminito Del Rey to szlak pieszy, ciągnący się wzdłuż stromych ścian wapiennego wąwozu w Parku Narodowym Desfiladero de los Gaitanes, ok. 60 km od Malagi.

Caminito Del Rey is a walkway running along the steep walls of a limestone gorge in the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes National Park, about 60 km from Malaga.

Ścieżka / The Route map

Fascynująca jest historia tej trasy. Została ona wybudowana w latach 1901 – 1905 na potrzeby budowy zapory wodnej. Głównym celem był transport materiałów! Tak, wyobraźcie sobie ludzi przenoszących materiały do budowy tamy po wąskiej (ok. 1 m) betonowej platformie wzdłuż pionowych ścian.

The history of this tour is fascinating. It was built in 1901-1905 for the construction of a dam. The main goal was to transport materials! Yes, just imagine people carrying heavy materials for dam construction along a narrow (about 1m) concrete platform along vertical walls.

The walkway was built supposedly by the prisoners, serving the most serious crimes – which is not a surprise, judging by how dangerous it must have been.

Pozostałości starej drogi / The remnants of the former road W roku 1921 król Alfonso XIII miał przebyć tę niebezpieczną drogę w czasie uroczystości otwarcia zapory wodnej Conde del Guadalhorce.

In 1921, King Alfonso XIII was to make this dangerous journey during the opening ceremony of the Conde del Guadalhorce dam. Since then, this trail has been called the King's Path.

The trail had not been repaired for many years, its condition was gradually deteriorating, as you can see the platforms became gappy ... which posed a significant risk of accidents. After four fatal accidents in 1999 and 2000, local authorities closed the entrances to El Caminito - some platforms were dismantled at both ends of the trail. Despite the prohibition in force, the King's Path was still frequently traveled by climbers with the appropriate equipment.

Ofiary Caminito / The victims of Caminito

In 2014, local authorities carried out a comprehensive renovation of this historic route worth EUR 7 million. The trail reopened in March 2015 and from then on, we can visit Caminito using safe and modern platforms.

Główna część to niecałe 5 km malowniczej trasy wzdłuż przepaści.

The entire route is 7.7 km long and is one direction. It starts with a forest road, then before entering the gorge everyone receives a helmet (which, although it does not help much in the event of a fall ...;))
The main part is less than 5 km of picturesque route along the abyss. About 2 hours are planned to cover it. This is important because then another group of visitors comes, and there may be only a limited number of people on the platforms at the same time.

To wznoszący się wysoko ponad kanionem metalowy, wiszący most - Puente Colgante. Kiedy my przechodziliśmy przez most, miałam wrażenie, jakby bujało nim na boki.

At the end of the path, there is one of the most spectacular points - the passage between two opposite walls of the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes gorge. It is a metal suspension bridge towering high above the canyon - Puente Colgante. Walking through it is quite a challenge for people who are afraid of heights, especially as the wind can blow mercilessly in this place. When we were crossing the bridge, it was feeling like it was swinging from side to side.

Widok na wiszący most / You can see the suspension bridge ...i wejście na wiszący most / ...and you can enter it Nie patrz w dół! / Don't look down!

The tour ends at the Estación de El Chorro bus station. There are regular buses from there to the car park near the starting point (Sillón del Rey).

Stąd moje obawy przed powrotem w to miejsce.

Walking through the entire route, my eyes were wide open, admiring the wonderful views. I could lean down to look at the old, shabby platform below us. The whole thing made a really amazing impression on me. The only moment of hesitation was stepping onto a swinging suspension bridge, but after taking two steps it turned out that it wasn't that bad at all.

It was worse after that :D after returning to the hotel and having a nice evening, I woke up suddenly at night… having the impression that I was FALLING DOWN! I dreamed about this chasm for quite a time later on. Hence my fears of returning to this place. It must have left its mark on me, even though I am not afraid of heights.

But who knows… maybe I will come back there one day :)
