A walk to the Beach

avatar

A massive snowstorm dumped more than a foot of snow in some parts of the Chicago area beginning on Monday.

As snow was beginning to pile up, Ella sent me photos and in a text said 'I wonder what it looks like by the Lake'

It was so cold out that I never dreamed that she and Jeff would actually bundle up and walk over to Lake Michigan!

Foster Avenue Beach

You can't tell where the beach ends and the water begins.

Can you still ground your adult children? After seeing some of these photos I told them they were not allowed to go back to the Lake until summer! I suspect they just laughed!

You can easily see how deep the snow is, and it wasn't done snowing yet! This is what they are talking about when the say 'Lake effect' snow. 100 miles northwest we got less than two inches.

All photos were taken by my kids and belong to them. Ella has been sending more photos today as the city attempts to dig out, so expect to see more snowy photos!

It was an impressive snow storm!

We have had a bit of snow this winter, but it looks like a dusting compared to this! the ice formations on the lake are stunning, but I would not want to be getting so close!

They got a serious amount of snow! I told my son that seeing pictures of him on that ice would probably make me have nightmares. He assured me that he was safe. But I remain unconvinced!

Wow! How often does the lake freeze?

I read that the lake was 95% Frozen in the early 90s. That
is the closest it's ever come to freezing completely.
I have driven on the ice road on Lake Superior between Bayfield WI and Madeline Island that is used when the ferry service is suspended during the winter.

It is! Although it doesn't take long for me to get tired of living in a black and white world and get desperate to see green again!

Way to represent with that Packer hat, too! Always good to remind those Chicago folks about GB!

I grew up in Northern Illinois but was never much of a football fan. I moved to Wisconsin as a young wife and my kids were raised here and it was this 'boy' who made a Green Bay Packer fan out of me when he was just a little guy! His wife if from Russia, and she couldn't help but become a
Green Bay fan, too! If you live in Wisconsin you just have be a Green Bay Fan..... Or if you live in Chicago but were raised in WI!

Thru the window is always my favorite way to enjoy winter! I told them they are weather warriors and I am a weather whimp.

Well I guess kids will be kids. That's a lot of snow. My nephew is in Germany and although it snows over where he is it doesn't get that deep. That's really cold brrrr. It's still a bit cool here in our country, about 26 C. Yep that's cool for us tropical people. But soon it'll be over the 30's again. This is a refreshingly cold and snowy post lol.

Yea, an impressive snow storm we have gotten about 4 inches here in STL not loving it at all. I do remember at one time in my live I loved snow. Born in MN grew up in MI and the WI, my old bones like warmer temps.

Dear friend, I am very sorry that I have upset you by being rewarded for my post. Unfortunately, I can’t answer you directly to your comment, it’s some kind of bug in the program and I don’t have the "reply" function there. I dare to assure you that my posts are voted for by those who know that I take care of more than 100 animals every day. I do this alone and at my own expense. Therefore, I do not always have the strength to comment or reply. But I always vote for the posts and comments of my friends, in this you were wrong. I wish you good day.

The photos that my son and daughter in law took do a good job of showing how deep the snow is! Temperatures are going to warm up, but it will take time for all that snow to melt!

Las fotos que tomaron mi hijo y mi nuera muestran muy bien la profundidad de la nieve. Las temperaturas se van a calentar, ¡pero la nieve tardará en derretirse!

And nobody with snowshoes to be found! Southern Minnesota got passed over for drop snow this year, too. Have to live the lake effect!

We have tons of snow here, but it didn't all come in one huge blast! 5 inches 2 or 3 times a week adds up when there are 1 or 2 inch snowstorms in between. It's pretty deep and I see my neighbors have been out on snowshoes.
