(Edited)

Today, I go back to issue 6 of the challenge questions which I had earlier skipped. This question asks about what kind of behaviour is referred as Good manners in my culture.

First off to begin with, I come from Lagos Nigeria, and from the Yoruba tribe. The Yoruba tribe is one of the most popular and common among 250 ethnic groups in Nigeria.

Since when I have been a little boy, I grew up in the way of what my parents refers as good manners and I would willingly share them to you.

1. GREETING YOUR PARENTS AFTER WAKING UP FROM BED AND MORNING DEVOTION/SALUDAR A TUS PADRES DESPUÉS DE DESPERTARSE DE LA CAMA Y LA DEVOCIÓN MATUTINA:

In my family, we have a time when we all wake from bed to come together for a morning devotion to pray as a family. Straight after morning devotion, I am to go to my parents, then prostrate towards them and greet them Good Morning. If it was to be a girl, she would just kneel to her parents.

They term this as a good behaviour and they bless us every morning when we greet them. I must say those blessings I have received from them have made my life and guided me through.

2. GREETING OTHERS WHEN GETTING TO A NEW ENVIRONMENT/SALUDAR A OTROS CUANDO SE LLEGA A UN NUEVO ENTORNO:

I know this habit is a very common one but my parents have come to make me understand that greeting people is not for their benefits but for our own actually. Though it may sound like we are praising them in one way but it helps us more.

You might be thinking, how does greeting people be beneficial to us. The thing is, it makes people to notice us and give them a warm feeling that they may be able to trust us plus, it serves as a good start for a relationship with people. We never know which connection we can build from a simple good morning or afternoon that doesn't remove a cent from our pockets.

3. SAYING THANK YOU FOR THE SLIGHTEST BIT OF HELP YOU GET/DECIR GRACIAS POR LA MÁS MÍNIMA AYUDA QUE RECIBE

If you are close to me, you would notice that the word thank you is never far from my mouth. You may consider what you have done nothing but no matter how slight or little they may, I would surely say thank you to show my appreciation.

Source

Why do one say thank you. The word is a way of showing appreciation to the helper that they are welcome to do more in future and it would be well received. Understanding these has made the word thank you a very easy word for me to say and displace no matter how little you have done.

I would end in these 3 manners listed above. I would also love to know more about yours, feel free to share with me. 😊🤗

Nicely written! I am Yoruba too, as you already know and identify with these good manners. When we come short even in the slightest, it's always unpleasant. Ugh 😄

Hahaha.... The list you came with are crystal clear and there is no doubt about them.

The funny thing is that all Nigerian parents are currently disciplinarian so, anyone that goes against any of these will be malhandled 😋🤣

In my family, we were also made to never collect anything from strangers or even people that visits our house and we still follow that till now

It's like it is the same all families. If I collect anything from any stranger, I would get weee later in the day.
