The Marshmallow Experiment and my vote on LBI
Hi,
on the LBI project, there is the next voting round to postpone the dividend payment or to take them out. You can read the details and vote on this post. Please check it, give it a vote and leave a comment with your choice.
I did not vote yet, but no matter what the standing, I know what I vote. I'm not trying to influence someone on this, and will just present why I will vote the way I will do.
For this, I will go back in history, to a Stanford professor named Walter Mischel, which in the 60s started an experiment. The results have been published later in 1972 with the tests continuing till the 2000s. The experiment is known as the Marshmallow Experiment.
In this experiment, he took a marshmallow in a room with a 5-year-old and told the kid that if he waits till he is back, he will get a second one. He was back after 15 minutes.
The kids that waited had a better life in general than the others who ate the marshmallow. They had better wages, better relationships, and in general have been happier.
This was because they delayed the short term pleasure, putting in the work needed to reach their goals. Delaying gratification is a very powerful trait, that is a key success factor.
On LBI, I will choose to delay it once again, as with the delay of payments till now, we will receive double the dividends, for waiting 6 months. If the payment starts now, in 6 months we level the payments missed, and we will definitely earn more, so I would choose to wait another round to have an even higher payment.
How do you see it?

I voted for the dividends to be delayed as well :)
Lol I saw that experiment on tv or something like that. Interesting how you linked it up with the LBI project. I will choose to delay it too to let it compound. Way to go!

Marsmallows are tasty. Can't blame the kids🤷

Very nice how you linked that experiment, but I think the kids have waited long enough and are ready to taste the marshmallow. You can´t keep kids waiting for too long. They might lose all the enthusiasm ...
I agree. If we read the full story, there were few kids who ate just a small portion of marshmallow and saved the rest. They got instant gratification as well saved the rest for later. We want to be those type of kids. ;)

There's another marshmallow experiment where the kindergardeners win because they put the marshmallow on the toothpick first...
I know its not relevant, but, well, give me my money. lol

I also voted for the dividends to be delayed because it will mean a bigger dividend in the future. However I do understand how people are frustrated and want things now. So whatever happens is what happens and I am fine with either option.

Also agree with you on the delay to atleast six months, has it will give the project a solid base and hence more better dividends in the future.
Worrying about future may hide the good prospects of today.
It is time for me to do some analysis on LBI.

Interesting link to that experiment. I knew about it but didn't make the connection myself.
I also voted for the delay of the dividends.

There were 3rd type of people as well who ate only a small portion of marshmallow for instant gratification and kept the rest. and I believe those were the most successful. So it is good to have a small portion to be paid as dividend and keep compounding in parallel. I'm also keen to see the results. Anyways, We are here for the long run. ;)
