Why does it matter?

Well it matters because it decreases the supply and hence directly/indirectly increases the value of the coin .

With respect to SPORTS burning becomes all the more important because of lack of usecases ( which we will hopefully overcome because I believe in patrick ) and lot of liquid SPORTS at the hands of people .

This is actually a good sign but I believe we need to burn even more . We are on the right track though.

The exact amount is - 2046258 SPORTS as of 1st JAN 2021 .

This is good but as I mentioned above we need to increase this too and provide usecases for SPORTS , that will certainly increase the value of the token .
