Traffic = Money . Hive users sessions - How often do Hive users visit hive and post? Data analysis

avatar
(Edited)

Good evening to one and all . For the past 3 weeks without missing a day I have been posting about data and statistics of various projects , tokens , miners , activity on leofinance , activity on hive etc .

This was by far the most complex to code ( it sounded easy in my head though ) .

Hive users session - meaning

Well I don't know if it is the apt word for it but what is the data about? Let me explain -

How many time a registered user on Hive comes back to Hive and authors a post or a comment.

Ex: @taskmaster4450 authors 2 posts @ 00:00 UTC , he replies to 10 comments at 00:10 UTC . He takes a break ( in reality he doesn't but still ) . He comes back at 01:30 UTC and posts again ( this will be considered as second session ) .

So in the above manner , take all the users on Hive blockchain , I am presenting the data here which tells how many posts/comments users author during a session and how long will they take the break for ( on an average ) etc .

Note

  • The below data is for the past 7 days - 27th Februrary to 5th March.

What is considered as a session ?

Well how long does a user has to take a break to consider as end of session or start of new session? There is no right answer to this . I have taken 1 hour as the difference to differentiate between sessions .

Meaning -

  1. If the difference between one comment and the next comment by an user exceeds 1 hour then it is considered a new session .

  2. If the difference between one comment and the next comment by an user is less than 1 hour then it is considered as 2 comments within same session.

Total users who have posted atleast once in past 7 days

  • 6168

Number of sessions on an average for all users -

  • 5.95 ( per week ) ( atleast one comment )
Meaning - On an average , a hive user visits Hive 5.95 times in a week after atleast 1 hour break .
  • 16.26 ( per week ) ( considering users who have made atleast 10 comments in a week )
Meaning - On an average ( considering only those who have posted atleast 10 comments/posts), a hive user visits Hive 16.26 times in a week after atleast 1 hour break .

Activity per user

  • 12.456712 ( atleast one comment )
Meaning - 12.45 posts/comments have been made by 6168 users on an average in 1 week on hive.
  • 54.03 ( atleast 10 comments/posts)
Meaning - 54.03 posts/comments have been made by 1167 users ( who has made atleast 10 comments in a week ) on an average in 1 week on hive.

Activity per session

  • 1.90 ( atleast 1 comment )
Meaning - Once a user hops on to Hive or other frontends , he/she posts 1.9 comments within one hour.
  • 6.52
Meaning - Once a user hops on to Hive or other frontends , he/she posts 6.52 comments within one hour ( considering only those who have posted atleast 10 comments/posts )

Average minute difference between posts/comments

  • 292.81 ( atleast 1 comment )
Meaning - the average minutes difference between two comments/posts by an user on Hive is 292.81
  • 168.94 ( atleast 10 comments )
Meaning - the average minutes difference between two comments/posts by an user on Hive is 168.94

Fields

User - Username
Activity per session - Average activity per session ( without exceeding 1 hour difference between two comments)

Total activity - Total number of posts/comments made in past 7 days throughout hive.

Sessions - Number of time the user has come back to post/comment on Hive with difference of over 1 hour .

@zinasura22.333201932.67

What does this tell us ?

This tells us that @poshbot in the last 7 days has had the highest activity ( 3299 posts in a single session )

I wanted to actually filter the data which had less than 10 sessions because they are most probably bots which repeatedly is called by various users but I am glad I didn't do that because this provides an amazing insight .

For the past 7 days poshbot session is just 1 that means the difference between two comments made by @poshbot has never exceeded 1 hour .

So what? @poshbot is a bot which repeatedly posts , so ?

That means in the past 7 days , every single hour atleast 1 tweet is made by the user sharing his/her Hive link on twitter . That's the insight .

If you see the Average minutes difference it is 3.07 which means every 3 minute once we are sharing Hive links on twitter :) Good job guys .

What does this tell us ?

This tells us the average difference between the minutes taken by users to post/comment.

There are numerous bots over here ( understandable ) but see 4th position - @taskmaster4450le . His average minutes difference is 14.08 that means every 14 minutes he has left a post/comment :)

There are couple other non-bot users too like myself @amr008 and @jfang003 and maybe others whom I don't know :( Sorry .

This stats might help bot owners too to check how often they are called.

Not only was this the hardest to code , this is certainly the hardest to explain too . Did any of this makes sense to you ? If yes , what are your thoughts?

You need to know your data? How much do you post when you hop on and how many times have you taken a break during the past 7 days from Hive and come back ? Let me know your username in the comments , I will tell your data.

Beware @nobutsd is a compromised account which is being used by the hacker . If you see any posts/comments from that account , warn others in the comment section .

Regards,
MR.

I feel conflicted about @nobutsd because this an account that was lost due to phishing and it is the scammers that are operating that account trying to phish even more. I don't think we should mention this user in the post.

I guess I made the list and it feels weird. I guess the bots make up for alot of the activity on the block chain.

Well I can remove or edit the post and tell users to be beware of that account .

How sure are you about that info though?

He wrote about it himself before making his new account. @nobutsd1974 is his new account since his master key was compromised. Take a look at the accounts comments.

Your welcome. I saw you mention it a few times on the Phishing threads and I know your active on DBuzz. I just didn't want the post accidently promoting a phishing account as that may be harmful to others and I am also sad that you lost your original account.

Yeah, looking back, I should have changed the name for this account. I do not want confusion, but I guess a day late, and a dollar short right?

Thank you! Yes, I was dumb and got phished in the fake Hivesigner phish last week. I learned a very valuable lesson, but I hate that my old account is being used to hurt others. I made this account and kept my old username in it, I should have thought that out because now it is easy to confuse that account and this one. I really am sorry for any problems my ignorance caused anyone. Please accept my apologies.

Don't apologize for something which isn't your mistake. We all have fell into this trap one or the other time.
If you need any help in spreading awareness about the account and need my help, let me know I will do what I can from my side.

Oh, I am apologizing because I should have known better. This was actually the first time in the almost five years I have been involved with crypto that I have lost anything, I am as safe as I know how to be with my internet practices, but sure enough, a short link got me! I am not sure what even can be done from any point really. I only lost about $175, which is enough for me, and to some, that is a LOT! I follow the account and downvote everything I see from it. The part that kills me is the four years of reputation gone, the badges from Hive Buzz for being on the blockchain for four years, gone. That is the part that hurts me most, just the personal achievements and recognition that I have been here since the beginning, even though I am just a content creator, not a developer, I still have been here and been developing relationships with people. That is what hurts more than anything else I think. Anyway, thank you for the offer of help, but I don't really think there is much anyone can do really.

Personally, I don't even know how you come up with something like this let alone how you create it. :-) Pretty amazing.

It makes sense in a very broad way. I don't know how useful it is as a metric to measure individual curators. At least for me anyway. As you said, it may provide the most benefit for seeing how bots are doing and also the twitter factor.

That said, can I see my numbers please? lol
