Brave Accused of Cheating User Data by Autocompleting URLs to Popular Crypto Sites

I use and love the Brave browser and BAT token. I believe that the potential of this browser and it's corresponding token are immense and that's why I continue to buy more of the BAT token.

Their browser has recently reported a total of 15 million monthly active users - I think it's safe to say that Brave is one of the most used crypto (or at least crypto adjacent) browsers.

When I saw Brave come out with the latest Binance integration, I thought that was a very smart idea. They're looking for ways to subtly get on the doorstep of everyone who uses the internet.

Not only is Brave providing a better browser to others like Google Chrome, they're also providing more privacy and more tools to open the gates to crypto.

A breaking story on Brave

Brave was just accused of autocompleting the URLs of certain websites like Binance, Trezor, Ledger and others with their referral code.

The founder, Brendan Eich, came out with this statement:

“The autocomplete default was inspired by search query clientid attribution that all browsers do, but unlike keyword queries, a typed-in URL should go to the domain named, without any additions,” Eich wrote in the thread. “Sorry for this mistake — we are clearly not perfect, but we correct course quickly,” he added.

I personally don't have much of a problem with them autocompleting these URLs. As long as they're not cheating other people out of referrals/their users out of money, I don't see the problem with it.

I know those in the hardcore-privacy community might feel differently about this, but unless they're using this type of referral autocompletion to steal my data, I could care less. In fact, I want Brave/BAT to receive more funding.
