My experience with ListNerds (so far)

A marketing miss?

I am going to guess many of us have been in this position before... You read about something on Hive or Leo and you think "wow, that is pretty cool, I am going to check that out". Then life happens, and you totally forget about that thing that you were going to look into.

Fast forward a couple of weeks or a couple of months, and you start seeing more people post about that thing you were going to look into. Only this time they are talking about how much money they are making from said thing and you are now thinking "dang it, did I miss another great opportunity?".

That is pretty much where I fell when it came to ListNerds. Through no fault of their own I should point out. Despite the header, their marketing was pretty impeccable. There was a good two to three weeks were pretty much every other post I was seeing had to do with ListNerds upon their relaunch.

And yet I still kept putting it off.

A marketing rabbit hole

Now that I have started playing with it more, I have to be totally honest with you: It isn't something that you can just dabble lightly with. If you expect to get any real results anyway. No, ListNerds requires quite a bit of digging, some investment, and as I would later find out a small chunk of time carved out of your day to truly work as intended.

The truth is, ListNerds can probably be as complicated or easy as you want it to be. The key difference will be creating a monster of a marketing tool, or just using it occasionally and getting mixed results.

Marketing takes money

There are three tokens in the ListNerds ecosystem. CTP gives you the power to upvote or downvote mails that show up in your mailbox. By using your votes, you earn MAIL tokens. These are used to increase your reach should you decide to send out a mail of your own.

You really need to send out a mail of your own. If you choose not to, you are kind of missing the whole point of the system in my opinion.

Finally, if your sent mail gets 20 or more upvotes, it will become verified and you will earn ListNerds tokens. There are other ways to earn ListNerds and if you are interested in all of the specifics of that, feel free to read some of the great tutorials they have or that others have posted on Hive.

image.png

I bought some CTP Miner tokens a while ago on Hive-Engine, so I have a small stream of CTP tokens coming in. I also use the tag when I post and I visit the front end sometimes. Using the front end and posting is probably your best bet to get your hands on CTP tokens if you don't want to outright buy them.

Those CTP tokens gave me the ability to get started using ListNerds. I was pretty content to stay in the free tier but I would soon learn that was a mistake. Okay, maybe not a mistake, but it definitely takes a lot more work to be successful in the free tier.

As I stated above, "marketing takes money", and in this case, that meant spending the Hive to move myself into the "Premium" tier.

With the ability to send out mails every three days and some other benefits, I thought I was well on the road to success. As you can see from the screenshot above, my efforts were still falling short.

Marketing takes networking

As you can imagine, I was a bit dismayed at my lack of success. I jumped over to the ListNerds Discord to see if I could learn some more about the platform. This is a case where instead of DYOR on the front end I did it after the fact and missed out on a some great opportunities.

Do Your Own Research, do it early and do it often.

Thanks to a couple of very helpful people in the Discord, it soon became very apparent that I was definitely half-assing my efforts on ListNerds. Simply going through your inbox and voting on mails isn't going to get your anywhere. No matter which tier you are or are not paying for.

It wasn't until I started visiting some of the posts that were being share on ListNerds, upvoting (in Hive), commenting, and pointing out that I found their post via ListNerds that things started to turn around.

Before I knew it, I had new Hive users coming to my own posts. I have heard lots of people say in the past that they would rather have comments on their (Hive) posts than upvotes. Well let me tell you right now, you will definitely start getting more comments if you start using ListNerds effectively.

A marketing machine

Here I am about three months into my ListNerds journey. Probably a month and a half into actually putting some effort into it like I should have from the start. I am getting close to the first renewal of my subscription and I have enough liquid Hive that I think I am going to bump myself up to the Business tier if not the Enterprise tier. Since jumping into crypto I have spent more money on dumber things, so why not...

With the current conversion price of ListNerds to Hive, I think I have a good chance of earning enough each month to have my ListNerds subscription be self sustaining. Time will tell I guess. It is going to be a fine line between cashing out ListNerds to cover the subscription and keeping the rest staked to keep growing my account.

Even if it isn't self sustaining, I am still adding followers on Hive and growing my network on that side of things, which is never a bad move.

It's definitely not a free ride. In addition to the subscription cost, ListNerds also takes another small chunk of my time each day reading mails, reading the linked Hive post, curating, and commenting on each respectively.

So far it has been well worth it though. I am building a marketing machine that will hopefully serve me well for years to come on the blockchain.

If you haven't checked it out yet, I really encourage you to give ListNerds a first, second, or even third look. Hopefully, by avoiding some of my mistakes, you can build your own marketing machine!

Listnerds is a great addition to the Hive ecosystem.

Every new content creator should utilize this. It is a great way to get one's message out there. Like anything it will take a while to build up the mails one is sending to each week. That said, it should grow to the point where one is early LISTNERDS at least weekly.

Then we couple that with the compounding for staking both that and CTP.

As they say, it all adds up.

Great look with the headers by the way. Really changes the post a great deal.

Thanks! I did that just for you! :) I went ahead and moved myself up to the Enterprise tier. We will see how it goes this month. I noticed that the Bro group is using it to highlight some other authors on Hive besides themselves. I might do that too, especially now that I have more mails to send out each day.

There is a time commitment, but if you can work it into your schedule, it isn't too bad.

I am going through my Listnerd and came across this post again. I had found it on my Leofinance feed earlier.

Exactly! Great point.. lol. Story of my life with everything I want to do with my life and free time. As far as the whole initiative or program goes, great idea for those with the free time to invest in such a movement. I hear ya, I am ALWAYS last to the party. sadly.

ListNerds is just getting warmed up from what I have seen. I am not in it to heavy yet, but those who can afford to pay and have a little bit of time to put in should be able to see results fairly quickly. Hopefully anyway.

More people should use ListNerds to let people know about new products on the Hive. Thanks for sharing this important information.

I have just enlisted today, so I am still figuring things out… But I am confident it has a place on the Hive blockchain to get more traction and a bigger following, while earning some tokens doing it. Can’t be anything wrong with that!

Indeed there cannot. Best of luck! It takes a bit of time, but once you have it down, it can be awesome!

I think more people should give Listnerds a try and it's a great engagement tool if anything else. At the same time, if you don't send out mail, you are definitely missing out. Sharing is one of the best things you can do and I need to work better on sending out mail more often.

Yes for sure on the sending out mail thing. It can be hard if you are only doing the free package though.

You still grow on the free account and it's not impossible. Of course, it is slower and people might not remember you as much.

How does ListNerds compare with, say, clicking around Hive and writing comments? Does it kind of streamline the process? When you send a mail in Listnerds does it go to everyone on the platform? Is it kind of like a little community within Hive?

I'd say it is a bit more targeted. Less of the random clicking. It brings the content to you versus you having to go out and find it. I think there are about 23k users on ListNerds. How many people get your mails depends on how many mail tokens you have and your tier.

Ah, thank you. That fills in some of the gaps for me. For a second I thought people were paying these huge monthly fees to essentially do the same thing they could be doing on Hive. 23K users is absolutely huge!! It must be more than just Hive users yeah?

Yes, I believe that is the case. There are a lot of non Hive mails that come into my mailbox each day. The CTP group has a pretty big reach even outside of Hive.

Ah amazing. I'd want to drive people to my personal non-Hive blog as well. This might be a nice solution for me.

Good post @bozz. Don't kick yourself for being cautious. Most of us have spent money on what turns out to be crap. I did not upgrade right away with #ListNerds either, but like you, it did not take long to realize that it is the real deal.

Your story sounds exactly like mine.

Hearing and watching videos about ListNerds, but putting off signing myself up.

"Ah, I'll do it later."

"Ahh, I need more CTP."

Excuse this, excuse that!

FINALLY I took the plunge and it's been great.

I have just been using it to drive traffic to my LEO blog and yep, I've seen a huge uptick in comments.

Very happy at the moment :)

But...

I guess your blog is as good of a place as any to ask this question... but why would someone buy LISTNERDS off the market?

Are we actually going to be able to sell any of these things haha?

Especially at the current high prices?

I guess I don't really know. I sold 10 the other day on the market. I think as long as the value holds compared to Hive, people will invest in it. We will see...

Because for one of the staking rewards in Listnerds, these are INSANE :) I'm close to 100 Listnerds staking rewards every single day now!

Second, because every listnerd token that you currently buy gives you a chance of winning another one back, see chances tab on listnerds.

And the team puts in buy orders for 1.5 hive / listnerds so selling is possible :)

Why do they do that though?

That's not sustainable.

It comes down to the one marketing rule I know: User your product. I use Hive so I am promoting my posts on ListNerds and I believe/use ListNerds therefore I am promoting it on Hive.

Glad you started to experience how great it can be :) Nothing comes to you for free though, that's the same on Hive.. I personally won't go to sleep without putting my 2 emails in for the day. But a healthy mix of fresh and new content is working out great for me currently. I'm glad it does too because I really will see less time in the next months so I have to use my time wisely.

I answered the question in a comment about buying Listnerds below btw :) In case you're curious.

Thanks, I appreciate it! Yeah, I am going to have to figure out a way to fully utilize my two mails per day.

In addition to the subscription cost, ListNerds also takes another small chunk of my time each day reading mails, reading the linked Hive post, curating, and commenting on each respectively.

This is very true but I have a nice strategy for that:
Openlistnerds in a new tab, open and click all the links in the emails, after getting through all of the mails, I attend to reading and commenting and if I like the content curating.
I do this in batches of 20 mails then 20 or less comments since the links not alwasys take you to hive posts.

I did spend the hive to get in the premium tier in the first months only to end up not sending enough mails.
It takes a bunch of effort to create content and promote it but if you do not have the time to write or even read it is wasted money.

Sorry for the long comment:

It definitely takes a bit more effort than I thought it was going to. I guess that is probably the case with a lot of stuff though. That sounds like a really good process you have there!

I dont know if its good but its way more effective IMO if you do it in batches instead one by one

You read about something on Hive or Leo and you think "wow, that is pretty cool, I am going to check that out

all the time. i have a tab with a post about ListNerds opened for a month now :)

and i will again skip it as it takes some time to learn what is going on, and at the moment i don't have that time. and i will most probably be sad that i did not start to use it earlier :D
