Ships that never come in...

This isn't going to be a very informational post. It is more of a way to open some discussion and perhaps enlighten me and other readers via the comments. If I had more time (and ambition) I could likely find the answers myself. Sometimes it is just easier to ask though right?

Let's get the basic premise out of the way right now:

What if HIVE never achieves mass adoption like we hope?

Please, don't misunderstand, I absolutely unequivocally hope that is no the case. I think it would be foolish to not consider the possibility. Let's play devil's advocate for the morning (or whenever you read this) and think about what happens next.

I know a handful of people who claim they are not here for the money. Assuming that isn't even 1% BS, they would likely just keep plugging along like they have been.

I have been here for over three years now and posting/commenting/curating has almost become a habit, so I doubt whether my activity would change too much. Would I see the platform through a different lens though? I might. There is a huge difference between doing something out of habit and doing something because you are really excited about it.

I can't remember the last time I got really excited about brushing my teeth, but I do it twice a day anyway because that is just what you do right?

I know several people I follow have been touching on some of the amazing stuff that the developers have in the works for the HIVE blockchain. Ideally, one or all of those things combined will give people a reason to create an account on the chain. Perhaps in droves.

What if that doesn't happen?

Think five years from now. Crypto is (mostly) widely adopted throughout the world. BTC hit that $360K mark a while ago and blew through it finally settling at somewhere reasonable. It is now a store of value and other tokens are driving countless chains to success.

Meanwhile HIVE is back to hovering around that $.85 mark.

What happens then?

Trust me, I don't have the answers, I wish I did. HIVE is a huge part of my life now and if I had switch I could flip to make everyone want to join I would.

We've got a whole list of stuff that we know doesn't work. Perhaps it is just a matter of trying over and over until we find something that sticks. Maybe like many have said it is just a matter of someone creating that one DAPP that brings the world in.

For those of us that know and love HIVE, it is epically painful to watch the price of the token languish in mediocrity. Living in Michigan I'd like to think that I handle it better than others. Take a look at the American Football team the Detroit Lions.

Tons of talent, tons of great pieces to the puzzle, but never able to push to the playoffs. Sometimes it was outside factors (stupid officials) and others, it just seems to be fate, or bad luck, or something.

I don't like thinking about this kind of stuff any more than the next person, but I think it is important to not stick our heads in the sand and hope everything is going to be okay. Confronting these hard questions can be a good start to pushing through them and finally seeing the other side.

Or maybe I am just an uninformed babbling idiot...

Well I dont think your an uninformed babbling idiot, althought in the world of Crypto I probably am, but I would live to see Hive get mass adoption and take off, but even if it drops down I will keep plugging away I love the sense of community on here

Unfortunately without proper marketing Hive will get that mass recognition hard, if not at all. Every product needs proper marketing to sell and Hive is a great product with almost non existing marketing. I don't know why we don't have a fund for that and honestly don't even bother anymore. It is what it is, I'm too small to make a difference in changing the course of Hive.

I think there are some marketing initiatives out there, but I don't think they are really helping that much yet. Even before that people have tried to do things over Twitter and it just doesn't work. I think there is still a piece to the puzzle beyond marketing that we are missing.

Well, I think Hive has a better chance than the Lions to be honest... lol

But jokes aside, I try to look at it from a different perspective: If there are so many that will just keep on plugging for the community itself then it's hard not to think that things will eventually pick up.

I'm very new to Hive and crypto so I'm biased with all the novelty around it but I do believe that all the development that's taking place will push us forward.

I'd be lying if I said I never even look at the toke price, but I'm not lying saying that I really don't let it affect me. Just keep on grinding!

I think you are right about the Lions! We will see what the new year and another new quarterback brings us! I don't pay much attention to the HIVE price either, I just know it isn't where it should be. Like I said, I am here for the long haul, but I am not all 100% sunshine and rainbows either.

HIVE is fairly tough since our retention rate isn't the greatest. At the same time, I don't think normal marketing will help much. According to what I have seen, I think the applications tend to be the easiest way to bring in more users but I am not sure how many of them will actually blog.

Yeah, I kind of agree with this. The marketing route just hasn't seemed to gain any traction yet.

I took forever to get on steemit Hive because it wasnt the easiest to navigate and there was no real guidance. It's better all the way around and a lot of incentive to post/comment and be a part of a community.

I think that marketing is all but useless, the apps are where it's at. One golden one will put them on the map.It can happen. If it never gets big, I'll probably still be here. I really like this place and I'm ready to do what it takes.

And the money is fun, but, it's not my retirement plan.

Yeah, I agree with all of that. It was a bit tough to get your feet under you. I will likely still be here in the long run as well.

Lol or $.35 mark...

What if HIVE never achieves mass adoption like we hope?

I doubt that this will be the case, Hive as a blogging protocol and Hive as an infrastructure are two different things in my opinion. It’s hard to say both won’t reach mass adoption let alone the two

Hive as a blogging protocol remains the only protocol to offer a censorship resistant protocol with a unique distribution mechanic from its core(Layer 1) till date. It is the best place for communities to empower its members, it will probably take one or two big already existing communities to join to get the ball rolling.

Hive as an infrastructure for decentralized applications offers fast and feeless environment for developers utilizing one of the most used programming languages. Take for example Splinterlands, till date remains a top 3 blockchain game in the world. I think a huge part of this success is tied to the underlining technology which is Hive.

It’ll probably take Splinterlands to become big enough to start to draw more attention to Hive. Or SPK network...or a Dapp we are yet to see.

It’ll take an entirely new platform with some superb level of decentralization compared to Hive and some superb level of tokenomics and some superb level of ease of use with some superb level of marketing and community and token distribution to phase Hive out, which I really doubt is possible.

The only way Hive won’t reach mass adoption is if the world doesn’t need a censorship resistant media platform and development protocol that is fast and feeless. I mean no one can close shop on my Splinterlands NFT cards a lot of other NFT platforms can’t boast about this.

Great points. I am just having a hard time seeing these large numbers of people abandoning other platforms and coming here. If they haven't yet I just don't see it happening anytime soon. If anything they enjoy complaining about their lack of liberty more than they want to do something about it. It gives them something to be angry about. I think people like to have problems. When you solve the problem for them they just can't handle it.

Very true, but I believe of people could see the need for Bitcoin, then hive has a chance too, though it might take time.

I have been a hive believer for a long time (over 3 years). When the world shifts to distributed social media then Hive will stand out; to me that seems inevitable (but there is a chance that day may never come). As for the current situation one can't feel bad about shitcoins outperforming Hive any more than you can about some NFTs selling for more than the value of whole productive companies. In the short term there is no link between price and value. The fact that hive is still here and developing rapidly in multiple directions says it all. It's like an underground community that simply cant be killed.

The amount of development here is what really keeps me optimistic. More so than the idea of masses of people coming onto the platform. honestly, I've been here so long I don't see myself going anywhere no matter what happens...

I guess I can get more sleep.
Most of my Posts are written at the expense of sleep time.
Maybe back to Youtube with my Sis @silversaver888 and post Silver Videos again. I have been asked to return.

I'm not very keen on returning to Steem btw.

Well these times will decide that I believe in Hive I don't think it's going anywhere infact I think after this crypto storm Hive will be stronger can't tell you the bottom but I think smart investors will start putting in, and people who've recognized it, developers who want to use Hive, and create projects will show so I think this time at this period is the tell all

I guess we will see! I'd love nothing more than to see it be widely successful.

Well I have written that several times before as I am not sure what would change things. I have been here for a while. I see people come and people go. If we cannot retain people that try us out, it seems more people will just mean more churn.

Hope to see 85 cents. We could be at 10 cents. Now I feel foolish for not selling more at 50 cents!

I think first crypto has to be more widely accepted. Then the world will discover Hive and we will all be rich. I hope I live that long.

I saw that Eco-Alex just bailed out after 5 years, so I guess when people have done their time, they may be just move on to something else that interests them.

I can't picture myself 4,5 years from here yet, but it will come soon enough.

Great post.
