An accident that has consequences for the global economy and the loss is already US$400 million per hour

The Suez Canal is considered by many to be the longest shortcut in history. As we know, a shortcut can mean a funny way for a lazy person to walk and save time and not get tired ...

But for the Suez Canal it is quite different, the passage is 193km long and connects the Mediterranean and Red seas. Since its creation, this "shortcut" has brought us several benefits and it is where hundreds of cargo ships pass that without it, one would have to bypass the African continent.

On March 23, the ship Ever Given ran aground on the Suez Canal and the causes of the accident have not yet been officially clarified. It is believed that the strong winds hindered the ship and the large amount of sand caused the stranding. Honestly, at this point I didn't want to be the captain who controlled the ship.

The loss is estimated at US$9,6 billion per day, there are endless lines of trucks waiting to be refueled to follow their routes. Without forgetting that there are also huge lines of ships waiting for something to be done to solve this immense problem.

Ever Given is a giant, about 400 meters long and weighs 200 thousand tons. Since the Suez Canal was created more than 100 years ago, it is quite possible that people at that time would not have imagined that today it would be possible for us to create giant ocean vessels.

As of this writing, about 27,000 cubic meters of sand have been removed. The sandstorm was so big that it caused the depth to be completely clogged with more sand.

Experts had only given two days for the problem to be resolved but we are already on the fifth day and the consequences of this delay are beginning to become noticeable. About 12% of global trade goes through this channel to get an idea of the size of the situation, the more than 300 ships on hold carry automobiles, live animals, food, oil and electronics.

We can even think about why ships that are waiting for a solution, could bypass Africa, but that besides demanding high costs, it would take a long time and without forgetting the risks that this trip would be because of pirates.

The United States has sent experts to help tow Ever Given, I hope this does not take longer than it is already taking because in addition to the problems we face in the world with pandemic economic crises, we will still have to worry even more about the increase in products that we consume.

May this giant problem be solved as soon as possible because many people in the world are depending exclusively on all the loads that ships have.

This is a mess. It's hard to believe the world is that dependent upon one small stretch of water but it obviously is. I agree with your assessment. I'm sure the original engineers had no concept of the size of vessel that would be traversing this stretch decades later. That said, you would think they would have started to understand the dangers inherent to these giant vessels and would have taken steps to prepare for it. It's absolutely insane this is still "stuck".

It is true, with so much going on in the world and so many problems and this accident happens.

Fortunately for what I researched, the ship was towed and finally things can return to normal.

I hope they solve it as soon as possible. Otherwise, there could even be an economic crisis for the companies that transport through there, and worse, that certain products people need to cope with the pandemic in those areas do not arrive.

The worst thing is that they were already suffering losses, but fortunately today they managed to solve the problem.

I already read about it
It is the tragedy of the ship, its cargo is very large, and I think that they have now begun to unload some of them

The important thing is that they have already managed to solve the problem and really, its size is sinister of great and I did not imagine that such an accident could happen.

It definitely is a huge mess. I hope it gets resolved soon because we already have massive economic damage and this will only cause more of it. I hope they create safeguards so they don't have the same issue in the future. Maybe a few engineers needs to figure out how to redesign it.

It's true, we already have too many problems in this world ...

But luckily I can tell you that the problems have been solved.

this seems huge. this is the first time I am hearing about the Suez Canal and its importance to global trade. Hopefully, the issue is resolved soon enough.

It's really huge, Ever Given is one of the largest ever built in the world. Fortunately they managed to tow it and the channel is now free.

It's been hilarious to watch this... for the last few days.

I don't even understand why this has not happened before (thinking it might have been close actually but because it has never really gone this wrong, no one really cared to post about it).

Rest assured... from now it will!

What we see today as a tragedy may also mark the beginning of a new era in international trade as new, cheaper, simpler and more modern alternatives to transport cargo beyond the rusty, large and polluting ships are being considered.

Yes, it is true and the pandemic sees us having other perspectives in relation to different areas of service. E-commerce has seen a large increase compared to sales in physical stores.

I really haven't been there for a long time.

It is nothing serious but between choices I decided that Noise.Cash I would leave a little aside because it requires a dedication more than for me at the moment I can not contribute but I hope that one day I will return there. Thanks for the reminder.
