Not According To Plan

source
My business has basically been put on hold for 1 year as everything is now gearing towards February next year.

Last week we had an appointment booked for Thursday morning with a new client I have been working on for the entire lock down period. Things didn't quite work out as my business partner phoned ahead letting the buyer know he would be there shortly. In some cases this is seen as good manners, but I thought this was dumb and amateurish.

We had a 9.30 am appointment scheduled so why bother phoning as it left him an out to reschedule. Unfortunately/fortunately they are busy and saw an opportunity to reschedule which is not the end of the world. I personally just wanted some good news for all the work that had already gone into getting this far.

This account I am not worried about as I personally know the owner and the buyer knows that. Any games and I will over ride him which is not in my nature as that is not the whole idea of building a business relationship. I have known him for the past 15 years and he wouldn't hesitate to jump in if required to help.

The owner of this massive company started out on a motor bike doing urgent courier drops for law firms and slowly expanded his wings. Today he has the largest trucking fleet in the country along with many other business interests. The warehouses and clients he has are not only here but are also in Singapore and Malaysia. To say he has done well is an understatement as he is a $ Billionaire today.

So it looks like February is turning out to be a busy month as long as their is no more Covid nonsense in between. Not all done for this year however as there is one more appointment tomorrow and have no clue how big or small they are. It could be a waste of time but if so a chance to pick their brain for their contacts. Everyone knows someone and that is the best way of networking and unearthing hidden gems that you wouldn't discover normally.

This year has cost me an arm and a leg but then again we are still in business and must just be fortunate. Normally I would have increased my clients and volume by 50 percent but looking at the figures volume is down by half and have lost only 1 client. That is the positive bit possibly plus knowing the work that has been put in to the other new clients that I know are coming.

Even after such a disastrous year I am super positive and pumped and looking forward to what lies ahead.

In some ways it did and will repeat itself again in the New Year. Hoping to have things in a better place for round 2 as I cannot go another year without a salary as that is nuts.

The way things are going right now, the only thing that is saving the disaster is the vaccine. Let's see how that goes.

Are you crazy who is going to trust this. No one knows the side effects yet as it hasn't been properly tested. I am not touching it and the majority wont either. The last time Pfizer did this type of testing 10 years ago they killed and crippled people.

I don't trust the vaccine but I guess that will be the only thing to iron out the problematic waves.

You're still in business, so I'd say it's good. Imagine if you'd have been in the entertainment industry.
Let's hope you'll get more clients in the upcoming period.

I wouldn't have been a superstar already if involved in the entertainment industry. Missed my calling perhaps but never mind as I am happy what I am doing. Many things have already disappeared permanently and expect many more to go over the next 6 months. I know I will get the clients when I am allowed to and it better not change from February.

That sucks to hear. That is part of the reason I hate dealing with vendors because a lot of times you are at their mercy and if they want to change things up suddenly, there isn't much you can do. Good luck with everything. Hopefully you can just try to relax through the end of the year and gear up for when things get crazy next year so you can hit the ground running.

covid cost many people their jobs and businesses. In my area, i saw a couple of small businesses closing for good. I am glad you are doing ok!

Also, quick question: what's your job if you don't mind asking?

Business partner in a packaging manufacturing company. We have to keep the factory busy reducing the running costs. I am involved in sales finding new clients and keeping what we have. I am 500km away from the factory setting up a new region so it is challenging enough without covid.

Positively hoping 2021 will be a good start for you. I've had a business in mind too and as soon as the financial part is fulfilled, I'll start it immediately.

Lets hope things are good next year. The business idea is what counts the most and make it happen. Do whatever groundwork that needs to be done now, especially the things that don't cost anything and then you will be ready to hit the ground running. Good luck with that and I am positive you will do well.
