How to get BNB or BUSD in MetaMask as US citizen-step by step

avatar

With all of this CUB stuff happening on the Binance Smart Chain (BSC), you need BNB in your account to pay for the small transaction fees. This is a minor roadblock for a lot of us in the US. There is an easy solution however. It takes a few steps but since we'll probably be needing it again for future CUB happenings, it's worth learning it now. Here's what you do:

First, you need to set up an account with Binance.US. NOT Binance.com. Binance.US. It's very quick and easy. You don't need to go through the whole verification process to get started. As long as you are dealing with less than $5000, you can skip that part. But, you will have to transfer in a crypto you can trade for BNB. They won't let you send them fiat without the full verification. Check the wallet for all the different coins/tokens available. Then, simply "deposit" a little of whatever you choose and "trade" it for some BNB.

The second thing you need to do is set up a Binance Chain Wallet. I just searched Binance Chain Wallet extension and it popped right up. I used the Chrome extension but there's also a Firefox version. Add the extension and go through the steps and you're ready to start making moves. Again, these are tools you'll very likely want to be able to use in the future so....might as well get them set up now.

Ok, here's what we're going to do. I'm going to give you the steps so you know what we're doing, and then I'm going to go through them one by one below so you can see the process.

First we're going to send our BNB to the Binance Chain Wallet. Then we're going to do a cross-chain transaction to get it on BSC. Then we're going to send it to Metamask. Got it? Okay, so....

First, open your new Binance Chain Wallet. Next, make sure the network on top says "Binance Chain Network". Binance.US is not on BSC. That's where this wallet comes in.

Copy the address.

Then go to your Binance.US account, wallets, and then click the withdraw button on your BNB.

Paste the Binance Chain Wallet address you just copied in the Recipient's BNB Address box. Then, enter the amount you want to send. (I tested it the first time with .1 BNB (~$29)) The fees are low so I didn't waste much by doing this twice. Up to you...

Click Submit. Now go back and open the Binance Chain Wallet again. It should show up in a few seconds. You may have to open and close it a couple times to see it. Just depends on how busy the network is.

Now, go to the network dropdown box on top, click on it, and choose Binance Smart Chain Network.

Once there, copy the address.

Now go back to the top and switch back to the Binance Chain Network (that's where your BNB is). From there, click Send and paste the address you just copied into the Address box. As you can see, a note pops up telling you this is a "cross chain transfer to Binance Smart Chain" (BSC). That's what we want. Enter the amount and click Send.

Go up top again and switch back to the Binance Smart Chain Network and you should now see your BNB there. Again, if it's not there, you may need to close and reopen the wallet.

Now, to send it to Metamask. I'm assuming you already have the BSC (Smart Chain) set up in Metamask. If you don't, there are plenty of tutorials around to walk you through it. Take the time to do that now if you haven't already. Don't worry, your BNB is safe in its wallet until you're ready. :-)

Once you're set, go into Metamask and copy your address. I usually make sure I'm on the "Smart Chain" network when I do it but I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter. The addresses are the same. But, why take the chance, right? :-)

Now, reopen your Binance Wallet again. Click Send. Paste your Metamask address into the address box, choose amount and click Send.

It will ask you to confirm. You should see From BSC To BSC with the relevant addresses. Click Send if it looks right and DONE!!!

You should now see the BNB show up in your Metamask wallet (again, it may take a few minutes so you might have to open and close it a couple times, just so you know).

You are now set to start working defi in Cub!!!

Thanks for reading! Hope this helps. I know it would have helped me and, truthfully, depending upon how often I need to do this in the future, I'll probably end up using it myself. lol

Incidentally, although I haven't done it myself, you should be able to follow these exact same steps with BUSD instead of BNB.

Nice tutorial. I think from here on out I am going to start keeping a little bit of Leo to the side. When I start running low on BNB for fees I will wrap that and then swap the BLEO to BNB right inside of Cub Finance. That is the plan right now anyway. I have access to my old Binance account through a VPN still, but I don't want to use it anymore than I have to.

Yes, I'm just so damned stingy with my Leo though. Diamond paws!!! lol I hate selling any of it for anything. That is definitely the easiest way to do it though. But, if I ever need "real" money in there, this is the route I'll take. The other option is buying Hive on Bittrex and transferring that in. Then doing all the necessary trades from there. But that also has it's own set of problems. Damn wallet is "under maintenance" half the time in Bittrex... The swap.hive liquidity pool is empty.... There's no Leo for sale without paying up a bunch... All problems I've run into. Bringing outside money in this way is actually a LOT easier. Just takes some steps to get it set up.

Hey, I hear you. The cool thing is I can easily make more Leo. Probably a lot easier than I can make fiat and move it over into BNB. I hear about the Bittrex wallet. That has been an ongoing nightmare for far too long. I am still waiting for them to find my missing ETH that was transferred and they never put in my wallet.

That sucks! I've (knock on wood) never had the misfortune of losing anything. I've had a couple transactions get "stuck" for a couple hours but they've always gone through. Very nerve-wracking though. This stuff is the one downside to the "Be your own bank" mantra. There is no safety net.

Bittrex better get their shit together on Hive (if that's who is to blame--never know, could be on Hive's end). There's going to be a lot of volume being done on that thing over the next couple years. Especially if and when they get the side-chain going.

As far as the Leo goes, like I said, I don't want to sell Leo for BNB. I want to HODL it all. I've got a bunch of other little stuff around that I would much rather part with than Leo. Of course I'm pretty sure I don't have as much as you do so...there's that. lol

You will get there. I think you are growing at a faster rate than me at this point. I honestly don't know. Like I said, I understand what you are saying about not wanting to part with your Leo.

Slowly but surely. I need to get some more Leo staked for PB. I've heard conflicting reports on whether that snapshot has already been taken but I'm pretty sure it hasn't. Get's harder to acquire it though when it's at a dollar. Gotta load the bags on Hive too. At this point, the returns could be bigger there than even with Leo. Of course, that doesn't count any of the airdrops you get so....coinflip.

I don't think the snapshot has been taken yet. I am excited about PB. I can see myself utilizing it quite a bit.

Got our first dens set up thanks to this article! There is not a good guide on how to get BNB to the BSC side of things... this made it so simple that I kinda kicked myself for not thinking of it, lol.

Got mine set up thanks to the internal BNB wallet portion. Used the Binance Wallet on Brave to sign into CubDefi! Didn’t even need metamask!

(Edited)

Nice! Exactly the info I was looking for (I think). I actually have like $70 in BNB on my Exodus wallet, but when I tried to send it to Metamask, it gave me a warning that the address was unsupported or something. Not wanting to lose my funds I aborted the transfer, and kept trying to find an answer to the why, and more importantly to the how.

So I think if I get a Binance Chain Wallet, I can send my BNB there, then follow your instructions to do the cross chain transfer, all the way to Metamask. I hope my reasoning is correct.

BTW, I'm not in the US but Mexiko. No idea if that makes any difference, but since I am not even interested in Binance (other than for getting into the LPs on Cub finance) I think your post should get me there.

Aaaaand ... it worked! I didn't even need to do the last step, as it appeared in my Metamask right away after doing the cross chain transfer.

Thanks again for this awesome help!

No worries. Glad it helped you out. I had a devil of a time figuring it out the first time myself so I figured a little "guide" might help out a few others. Plus, as I mention, like it or not, we're graduating to defi and since there will be more things coming out, might as well learn it now. Too lucrative to miss out on.....

I use Metamask wallet, mobile, I am paying 40-60 cents for transaction fees. What are you paying in the Binance chain wallet?
