Getting paid as a Nigerian Medical Doctor

I'm tired of saying that I'm a medical doctor. I've been trying to use it as an excuse for why I might be too busy to post. But it has almost been a week and I'm still posting daily and keeping up with it.

Some days I don't post and I just have carryovers.

My most recent post was a singing video for Hive open mic week 61.

As of writing this, I'm in the theatre try to help out with a bowel reconstruction surgery...for lack of a more descriptive term.

RULES OF THE POST

  • All pays are per month in this post.
  • No one is allowed to insult me or my profession too much. By untold statistics, Doctors are probably the most hated professionals next to Lawyers.

So be nice.

Today I'm supposed to be earning as a house officer in medicine and that's about $360. Which is nice...but compared to what it was decades back, house officers earned $1,000 before the value of the naira dropped. Also compared to neighbouring countries like Ghana which offer similar medical training with Nigeria... it's just less…can t say more about it.

In Ghana, it's about $600. It's a lot more considering they have good electricity. It kind of makes you forgive their crappy food.

NOTE I have never tasted Ghanaian food but I wish to join my country in spitting on their delicacies.

The typical registrar in Nigeria eans between $440 and $540

Just enough to insult and say he's better than the house officer in Ghana. Note that this still isn't close to when house officers earned about N150,000 which was equivalent to $1,000

The senior registrar in Nigeria earns $520 to $700.

The richest consultants in Nigeria are the O and G consultants.

Consultants can earn up to $900 to $1300.

It doesn't seem much but with the cost of living in Nigeria so low and the satisfaction of doing what you love...it kind of adds to the value to the individual.

Peace, hope your liked this little bit of information...cause I worte it just for you.
