More about EDS tokens

EDS tokens are a low-risk income token, ideal for people who want to save. There were only 20,000 originally and they were all sold at 1 Hive each, with guaranteed earnings of 12% each year. You can now acquire EDS tokens through the EDS Miner token.

Earnings come from powering up and leasing out the Hive that came from selling the tokens, plus earnings from posts and comments each week. EDS pays out every Monday evening. Last week the pay out was equivalent to 23%.

629 EDS Miner tokens left.

Back to business ...

We're going to be here every Saturday through the year growing a little savings honey pot, if you have plans for saving or getting to a different place this time next year - maybe $5 Hive by the end of the year 🤑?

Whatever it is, stick with Susie Saver through the year and we'll get there. Along the way, we'll share lots of tips and tricks for saving and how to get the knack of making your money work for you and not the other way round.

Let's Get Started

saturday_savers_club.jpg

Image by Andy M. from Pixabay Hey Chicken, nearly time for pot pie! 😁

We're using the 365 Penny A Day Challenge framework for the Saturday Savers Club. We're aiming to save £667 worth of pennies by the end of the year.

Penny a Day Tracker Sheet

Right click on the image, save it to your computer and then print it out.

Okay, let's check in ...

1. Check Progress

Each week, we're going to check in through this post and see where we are up to. Our target for today, 4 September, was 17.08p. Next week, we'll be saving 17.57p and by Saturday we'll have saved 322.62p (that's 32,262p just compounding a penny a day)! 😁.

Each week, I'll be buying Hive for @susie-saver's account with the pennies we've saved.

Here's this week's results - 17.08p buys 25.341 Hive.
850 Hive saved in 36 weeks (750 Hive powered up, the remainder invested in EDS and EDSM)! Plus we're earning 3.22% inflation on powered up Hive, 23% on EDS tokens and a little on curating and posting!

@susie-saver has powered this week's savings; she's also been voting following a curation trail. She's reached her first milestones of 530HP and Minnow status. Her next goal is 1,000HP.

How much did you save this week? Did you meet your target? Or did you save even more?

Being accountable to another person or a group is a great way to motivate yourself to save (or anything you want to achieve). Of course, you need the right kind of people around you - ones that think what you're trying to do is worth doing ... or at least fun 😁.

Sign up here with us to start your savings journey:

  • just leave a comment below if you want to join the challenge.
  • follow @eddie-earner so you never miss a post (Eddie has lots of ideas about how to make money - he's the earner, I'm the saver - you'll like his posts).
  • share this post if you think your followers might be interested.

2. The Golden Pig Tip

saturday savers club.jpg

Every week, we're going to share a Golden Pig Tip for saving. By the time you've tried them all you'll have £670 saved.

This Week's Golden Pig Tip

This week's Golden Pig Tip for September NO-BUY month:

Reduce your power bill by switching off electrical items when you are not using them.

My heating, hot water and cooking are done by gas, yet every time I get my energy bill, the electricity charge is higher than the gas! I decided it was time for action:

  • In my study - I have a new set up where all the office equipment is on one extension with an on-off switch. No equipment is on standby or has a red light burning away to tell you where the switch is. The laptop charges when I am using it and not overnight!

  • In the lounge - the TV is switched off at the power point and unplugged. I hardly watch the TV but it has been on standby pretty much the whole time I have owned it. No!

  • In the kitchen - the microwave is unplugged unless I want to use it. I'm going to get a wind-up mechanical wall clock to replace the digital clock on the microwave.

  • In the bedroom - the radio clock is off and unplugged - same thing here and in the lounge, I'm going to replace digital clocks with mechanical clocks.

  • Mobile phones - no more overnight charging - I charge them when I'm working at my desk, or first thing in the morning while I'm getting ready for the day, or in the evening when I'm knitting.

The only things which are running continuously 24 hours are the fridge freezer and the router. Let's see whether I can get the electricity bill back to where it was in the days before social media!

September NO-BUY Challenge

How's your month going? Have you worked out your list of buys and no-buys? Anything that hasn't worked already 😁? Learned any useful tips for saving money? Let us know in the comments 🙂.

And today is always a good day to start saving - you can start on Day 1 or make up the first thirty-six weeks (or join the Autumn Challenge) to catch up with @susie-saver.

That's it for this week. Hope you've enjoyed it and look forward to seeing you next Saturday with progress so far and our next Golden Pig tip.

Happy Saturday Savers. Congratulations 🎉👏 to this week's winners @riandeuk and @chrisparis

This week I'm up to 655HP on my way to 1000HP by year end.

I've also posted my first 2 reports in the Wednesday Well-being Club run by @shanibeer.

I also noticed that the value in my wallet has gone up in the last day or two.

Congrats to the wheel of names winners!

Oh man, standby mode is SO annoying. I hate all these "innovations" that make things worse. What is the point of "standby"? Why can't it just turn on when you want it to turn on? UGH.

I don't really have anything that does that anymore, and the only things that are pretty much always plugged in and drawing power are the laptop (the battery on this thing lasts about 20 minutes unplugged, whee buying refurbished even tho it's a super large battery) and the two salt lamps which function as nightlights. I don't think anything else does, except when I fall asleep without turning out a regular light, which happens. My phone doesn't get used all that much so I tend to put it down and forget about it until it's beeping that the battery is about to die ...and that takes a couple days. 😅 Yeah, I miss some messages.

I am up to 71 EDS tokens, and plugging along on my 365 saving challenge! About to go make a post about that now.

Some EDS tokens went on "sale" because of the Hive Spike.

Might be a good time to put some buy orders in. I wanted to do that, but I found myself putting buy orders for some of these other tokens.

Oh, when will I learn to stay with the tried and true? Instead I am over here gambling on WEED and SPORTS.

I just bought another one, so 72 now, lol. I've been buying them up as soon as I get enough coins in H-E. I was super happy to get a few coins on "sale"!

That is a good question - what is the point of standby?
You're way ahead of me with your housekeeping, I am only just getting round to this. The TV was the killer - I watch it about once a month, if that. It's been on stand-by for four years!

Woah - and it makes you wonder, because normally "standby" probably doesn't consume all that much juice, but four years' worth?

Well one tip I have for the no-buy month is to write down what you need from the store a few days beforehand. If you still feel you need it after a few days when you go to the store, then you probably need it. This helps you from doing any wasteful spending.

This week is your favourite no-buy recipe.
But good tip all the same!
How's your week been? Are you caught up in the excitement of the HIVE price hike?

Well not really since I am not really planning on powering down or cashing out. The hype is more or less on the side for me.

Me too, but I'm enjoying seeing the price go up. I guess it is the influx of Splinterlands users?

I think it could count for a portion of it but I still think part of it might have to do with HBD being above the peg. So some people are buying HIVE to convert back into HBD.

Just cause I failed at the beggining of the month doesn't mean I can't try anymore right?

Last night my oldest went to her first football game and I trekked out at 8pm to pick her up.

I bribed the middle two with some McDonalds. I did keep the no buy challenge in mind and kept it under 10USD - but still, the goal is ZERO.

Thank you for keeping me conscious of where my money is going. Mickey D's surely doesn't need any more of my $$$

Onwards and upwards.

Under $10 sounds good, and there's always today to start again.

Ahhh yes a Mac attack always feels like losing from yourself, regardless if you're trying to save or not haha

My girlfriend is pregnant and had cravings yesterday, so we kinda did the same 🤣🤣

Since we really don't do that often I don't watch the amount too much when we do and enjoy it to the fullest. But really only because it's once or twice a year.

Greetings savers,
Congratulations to the winners. Congratulations to everyone for trying to hit your goals.
I got on the Wednesday wellness boat. As it relates to the no buy in September, kfc needs to take many seats. The entertainment will be a challenge because I’m starting a little gig in that arena , I better leave the building immediately after selling my wares. I’m Turning over my 500 yens into a little weekend cooking venture. Let’s see how it goes. Have a great week everyone!

I have done good so far in not being tempted to buy any new tokens, I have not even looked for new token opportunities yet. I was able to bring my BRO holdings up to 10, so there it will sit for a little bit. I added a tiny amount to my ArchonM holdings on the 30th, and a tiny fraction amount to my LBI holdings.

It is nice to see EDS continuing to perform nicely and over the next 2 weeks I hope to get another EDSM. If LEO could turn around in price it would make it a lot easier for me, but what little drips I get from Dhedge, Index, and ArchonM are helping me a bit when it comes to getting extra funds to spend.

Excellent way to avoid temptation!
Good to see you are gradually stacking your portfolio of tokens.
EDS is doing well, isn't it? Just what it set out to do and more!
Have a good week 😍

I thought I was doing so great. I saved up my HBD for outdoor boots, and I found the ones I really wanted. And I was even able to order them on August 31! One day before the September no buy month started! WOW ... Until I got a mail back that they were working on a new web shop and therefor my order was cancelled, and they sent my money back.

First I was disappointed, but then it got better. Because I went on searching for outdoor boots, and stumbled across another brand that I hadn't seen before. These boots looked just as sturdy. Just as warm, Even a slightly nicer color (forest green instead of coffee brown). But best of all, they were even 100 euros cheaper than the boots I had planned to buy earlier!

So even though I now have to sin by buying these boots in September, it still saves me 100 euros that I have now spent on necessary groceries today, and refueling the car. And in the end it also saves me HBD that I don't have to cash out but can deposit back into the savings to receive the 10% interest.

Sounds like a win-win-win to me!
The boots were a planned expenditure so no sin involved (sorry)! If you had come back and said you had bought fourteen pairs of shoes in a sale you had just happened to come across because "they were so cheap", well now, that would be a different matter 😂.
Lovely that you are going to be warm and toasty through the winter!

Lol. No sin? You made my day! Hahaha buying fourteen pairs of shoes in the sale, I've never had fourteen pairs of shoes! But thinking, it could be awesome to have that many shoes. 🤔

Nah just joking. I'm happy with the way this turned out eventually. Now it's just waiting until I get the boots. Luckily, we have some really nice after-summer days. Hope you are doing well too!

We have beautiful weather in the UK this week and I have time off work, so I am good 😍.

I was really pleased when I first stated earning, to be able to buy a second pair of shoes, so if one had got wet one day, I had a dry pair to wear the next day. A small thing but it made such a difference!

Congrats on the boots!

Hello everyone, I'd like to join the challenge. How exactly does it work?

Hello, thank you for joining us.
We have an Autumn Savings Challenge that you might like to take part in. If you scroll through the post, you'll find the table with the amounts we are saving each week. Next Saturday will be Week 5.
You can save in any currency - some people are saving Hive or HBD and they transfer each week's saving amount to the savings section in their wallet.
Each week, everyone checks in here and lets everyone know their progress. You can also write your own post (see @justclickindiva's blog for an example). We have savings tips each week, there is a giveaway for comments, too.
We are having a NO-BUY month in September - see the posts for last week and the week before for more information. Each week, there will be an extra giveaway for joining in with that challenge.
Hope that helps!

Hello @shanibeer and all Saturday Saver Club members. It's been a busy week for me. How hve you been doing?

Here's my Week 36 Saturday Savers Club progress report:

https://peakd.com/hive-167922/@justclickindiva/week-36--loving-the-clubs-autumn-savings-challenge-week-4-or-saturday-savers-club

Also, congratulations to @riandeuk and @chrisparis for winning in the Wheel of Names.

September No-Buy Month.
5 days in and everything is going according to plans. I was excited that I had everything I needed to cook a dinner for family members yesterday. This includes desserts and drinks afterward. It's a satisfying feeling to know you planned for a month of no-buying, you put it into practice, and it actually worked when you needed it.

Also, I see a new challenge for this week in the September No-Buy Month. I missed participating yesterday, as I cooked that fabulous meal but didn't document it. I'll recycle my meat and prepare some chicken salad in a couple days. Always a good choice for your leftover chicken. I try not to miss an opportunity to win additional coins!

The Golden Pig Tip. What a timely tip about saving on electricity. In February, our area experienced an unusual snow event. The utility company assigned to handle this area failed us. We were without electricity for 4 days. As a result, our electricity bills skyrocketed. No fault of the customer, but we still got slammed for the company's inadequate preparedness for the situation. Since then, I've been looking at ways to reduce my electricity costs.

One of the ways @shanibeer mentioned is to cut the power to non-essential small kitchen appliances and other items that draw on power when not in use. I've been practicing this for years.

Another tip that was mentioned is power to the television. Our new T.V. has a power saver mode that we programmed to turn on whenever the T.V. isn't switched within five minutes. We don't unplug it when turned off.

We do, however, unplug stand-alone fans or heaters when not in use.

Take care everyone.

Hello there, good to see you!
Look forward to the chicken recipe, how fabulous you had everything you needed in the house for visitors!
Energy prices can be a problem - we are expecting price hikes this winter after a year or two of relatively stable prices.
Such great progress with everything!

Thank you justclickin! Really happy, always good to have some more EDS. Even though we now have some solar panels it's always good to minimize electric usage. But I much prefer it over gas as it's getting more expensive by the year. (And of course environmental impact, whole reason the price is rising)

Charging phone overnight is something I stopped quite some time ago, depending on build in battery management and charging behaviour it's possibly much better for battery life too!

Also setting up auto-power off functions on appliances helps a lot I think, especially when you (or someone you live with 😉) forget to turn stuff off often.

O and using LED lights is a no brainer, easily x8 less energy consumption and not having to replace them each year is a life changer 😁

I don’t understand the huge inconsistencies in amounts received from @spi-payments for hodling EDS tokens. My most recent payout was 0.08 HIVE, but the one from a week earlier was 1.176 HIVE. It seems odd that an income token has such extreme swings in payouts.

Apologies, there was an error in the timing of the transfers which failed to take account of British Summer Time. The payment next week will include the balance from this week.

Hello @shanibeer. Here's my recipe meal for Week 1 SPI Giveaway. The only thing I forgot was to tell what the cost is per person.

https://peakd.com/hive-120586/@justclickindiva/when-life-hands-you-leftover-chicken-make-curry-chicken-salad-for-or-week-1-spi-giveway-september-no-buy-month-challenge-satu

SeptemberNoBuyMonth-RecipeCurryChickenSalad.png

I normally get about 6 - 8 servings of salad. If I purchased it at our local deli, the cost per person would be $4 for 8 oz in a serving container.

Thanks.
